Louis Chauvin born March 13, 1881 and died March 26, 1908.
Was a ragtime jazz pioneer and contemporary of Scott Joplin.
Possible contributors to his death were listed as multiple sclerosis, syphilis and starvation due to the coma he was in.

One of Joplin’s best collaborative rags. Chauvin really had a musical vein. Joplin finishes marvelously the piece.

I’ve read that Chauvin composed many melodies but most weren’t written down. Beautiful melodies that were composed one day and forgotten the next. He met Joplin who wrote down two of Chauvin’s melodies. Joplin then composed two more strains that went wonderfully with Chauvin’s to become the Heliotrope Bouquet (1907). Chauvin’s name was listed first. Joplin had a good soul to match his genius, it seems.
