Interesting. I have just started reading the Bond books and I have Flemming's bio lined up as well. Funny about Flemming being kind because that is exactly what I noticed about Bond reading the books compared to most of the movies. Bond is actually very kind! I think a Bond resurgence is on the way.
Now that I'm near the end of this interview I'm really blown away. Flemming needs a movie! His death came way too soon. I was just writing how Conan Doyle and Flemming both had their characters eclipse them. They are both fantastic, descriptive writers who can really turn a phrase.
absolutely fascinating....I've always thought Fleming's life would make a very good film, perhaps far better than the Bond Movies being made these days! Reading about Fleming, he seems to be almost, a kind of man born before his time.
He does seem like a larger than life figure from a much more interesting time. Nicholas Shakespeare's bio really brought out the many lives this man lived. I couldn't put it down.

Yes, I was focused on finishing a new book. The podcast is something I do in my free time; I had a lot less of it over the last two months. Look for new episodes starting next week. All the writers I tried to pin down in the summer are finally available.
Immediately compelling and engaging, I'm glad I listened.
Thank you for checking it out.

I hope so! The films are sometimes a world of their own. It's essential to go back to the books, to Fleming's original character.

I wonder if Nicholas Shakespeare is of the Shakespeare Baronetcy?
No idea, but you could contact him through his website to ask.
just as a thought : Carl Hiaasen
Do you mean as a guest? I don't know his work. Any suggestions?

In the meantime, you might enjoy my recent appearance on the Intrepid Times podcast.
