In a article Posted Nov. 15, 1997 by Bill Christine staff writer for the Los Angeles Times titled:
'The Master Is Dead At 81'
In an interview last year, Arcaro said Citation and Kelso were the best horses he ever rode. But he rated Secretariat, who ran long after Arcaro had retired, as the best he'd ever seen.

@cf1934 Thats exactly right. It was told in Steve Haskins book about Dr. Fager. Arcaro said Secretariat was the fastest horse he ever seen and rated him the best he ever seen. That speaks volume considering all the great horses he rode and seen since Phar Lap.Cy was a great horse but never had the performances that left old time experts gasping like Secretariat did. If a horse is faster than the other he ususally wins everytime unless he is not sound and fit. Times tell ya how fast a horse is.

@TheTypicalGirl In public he would say Citation. He didn't want to make his friend Jimmy Jones, trainer of Citation, mad

Lots of jocks do that,Shoemaker did it also. It is probably just human nature. In the end it doesn't matter because they were all great, otherwise no mention would be made at all.

It seemed to me that Alydar had that genetic gift to make champions just like Bull Lea. I thinkthe farm should have bred him more in house to help rebuild their image, but still stud him outside the farm for a good fee.
