PLEASE, Everyone, we need to nominate Jean Cruguet into the Horseracing Hall of Fame. He is the only Triple Crown Jockey, who is NOT in the Hall of Fame. He deserves to be recognized for his accomplishment for winning the 1977 Triple Crown aboard Seattle Slew. It has been 35 years & this is the perfect year for him to become the 2012 Racing Hall of Fame Jockey :)
What a gorgeous and powerful horse ! I love this video regarding his fascinating history . Enjoyed it ! Great footage of Seattle Slew :) Thank you very much cf ! I hope you are having a wonderful weekend :)
Oh yes, all of them. I love part of this video where guy explains his temperament, very kind and generous as long as you ASK him, don't get into a fight with him 'cause you'll LOSE !! wonderful stuff
I love it that the criticism of Slew after the Derby sounded so much like the early criticisms of Zenyatta -- the horses in the Derby were just a bunch of "deadbeats". He couldn't beat quality horses. Even after the Triple Crown wins, still, he was "dissed" by Andy Beyer. His best race was to be the 1978 Jockey Club Gold Cup he lost to Exceller. Check it out on UA-cam. A thriller, and it was the race where he silenced his critics, even though he lost!
Only people who are around horses on a day to day basis can tell you things like how you asked Slew to do something, you do not TELL him,or you'll get into a fight you cannot win. That attitude was what made him what he was,he was a fighter, but he was smart and used his fierce will on the track,by running insane fractions and could still keep dealing them out 1/4 after 1/4. One of the best,he was my favorite type of racehorse, like Fager,Native Diver, etc. The hardest running style to have.
I have a grandson of slews Their temperament are so alike its just amazing, I can't give him instruction I need to ask, and he does the exact same prance before we compete just like slew did before he raced Unfortunately 'hamish' (must be Sirius) wasn't to good as a racer so now is starting evening and is loving every bit of it
Discovered that my thoroughbred A'day in Paradis is the grandson of this magnificent horse...his temperment is just like Slews! Very kind and gentle TB but once we are out on the trails with a group he thinks its a race once we start galloping and will fight his way to the lead!
and alot of calls after talking to jockey club i was able to obtain his papers and seen SETTALE SLEW to be his granssire i about fell over! he is blessing in my life! and we were broguht together by faith. he will be w. me till his day he leaves to more on to green pastures in heaven. we had a hard road the 1st year we are complete in trust in 1 another now.
what made him one of the greatest horse is the will to win then went against all odds against so-called experts to win The Triple Crown and of course as one of the best sire.
Hey, you want to know something funny? Here in Oregon we have a paper called "The Nickel", where you can place ads to buy and sell different stuff. I once saw an ad for the Grand Daughter of Seattle Slew. If I had the time, money, and place, I would have bought her.
you're right aftershock, take it from a Secretariat girl. Nack said he thought Slew probably wld have given Secretariat his greatest competition, his opinion of course, but has the feel of accuracy.
nice tribute.......love the comment at 3:00 mark.......Slew is my personal fave largely because his greatest performance (IMO) came in defeat to the resolute Exceller.......i am actually considering getting a tattoo of him on my shoulder
i was able to save a Wonderful setteal slew breed gelding (his grandsire is the slew) and OMG looks just like him and lissing to the above on how te slews dispostion was my big sweet boys is 100% the same, he was sent to a meat auction were even upon bidding no rider ec. just ran therew the ring and i had to outbid a horse meant buyer to after getting him had him 3 yrs. now and a tatto reserach
I'm riding Seattle Slew's grand son in dressage, he is one of the most talanted horses I ever worked with.

I just found out that my new horse's grandpa is Seattle Slew!!!
magnificant horse and a great story, thanx 4 the video appreciate it
I have to give Slew credit for one thing--he could bull his way through any crowd.
The best there ever was and ever will be!
At 9:13 Slew's big belly is just rocking back and forth as he walks towards the camera...now that's a belly of one amazingly successful horse!
This serves as an immortal connection!! Nice trivia...! : )
seattle slew is my horses grandpa, and his personality is EXACTLY like slews was. :)
he is my all time favorite race horse.
Thanks for the great post, cf

Great shot of Slew when Karen's talking @ 1.38. In the b/g Slew gives a big grunt and goes *flump* in the straw as his big butt hits the ground LOL.

War Pass really reminds me of him!! I'm praying that we have a triple crown champion!

i know same here :)
where did you find this video though?
i havent seen it before.
I never noticed how much of a sway back he has!
I own Slew's grandson, out of Princess Tiree, named Muscle Beach.
yes War Pass looks like Slew and a fronr runner as Slew.
Im rooting for Pyro because of the bloodline from Slew to AP Indy.
you're both right.

At age 32, I am beginning to wonder if I will ever see a TC winner.
I wish I had a horse as "badly bred' as Seattle Slew. His dam, My Charmer, was probably a double-copy x-factor carrier.
VERY TRUE!
Thanks!! cf1970
Seattle slew let himself go a bit since retirement
check out GRIT AND VALOR: THE STORY OF SWALE to read about one of Seattle Slew's greatest sons.
I have your Grand daughter Seattle Slew
his offspring did far better than my favorite ''Big Red''.foals.
