It is fascinating that 100 years ago, tools and "technology" like this helped build America. No power tools, metal bolts and screws weren't that old when it comes to being mass-produced. My friend Fred, who was Best man in my wedding, inherited the house his great grandfather built by hand in the 1870s. The beams we're assembled with, what looks like wood pegs. The framing of the walls had a lot of mortise joints and he must have done something right given the hurricanes that has come through the region over the past century. I'm glad you are restoring these tools so people can appreciate how work was done by our ancestors. Simple hand tools, attention to detail, a strong back, and a lot of sweat! #OldSchool #GearheadForLife #BeardMoustacheAndSawdustOnPoint❗

Thanks Greg! I've seen those wood pegs and they still hold hundreds of years later!

@@GearheadDaily That was a cool trick at the end. Those wood shavings are like peeling off Benjamin's, given the lumber prices lately!

I think a lot of the fun of getting into woodworking is restoring tools you need, back to working condition. For me, especially the hand plane restorations. I was hoping you would show some footage of how it worked. Just before hand I watched a plane restoration video where he didn't so it left me think I just wasted my time watching. Looking good and working good are two different things 🤣 Good job on your plane👍

Thanks for watching, which part did you want to see more of? I can do that :)

@@GearheadDaily I apologize, I wasn't clear as to what I meant. When I said, I was hoping you would show some footage of how it worked, I should've said, I'm glad you showed footage of how the plane performed after the restoration. The other video I watched just before yours, was a plane restoration video, as well. I watched the whole process and during, was wondering (because it was really rough) how it was going to work afterwards. The guy never showed testing the plane, at the end of the restoration, as you did.

If you'll be doing more, and want a closer match, DupliColor Ford Semi Gloss Black Engine Paint (DE1635) is a pretty dang good match. I've used a fair bit of it on my... "many" lol And thus begins the slippery slope, if you need more... I've got more :-P

HA! I knew i'd get a comment or two about color or the like with the paint. I used what I had on hand and decided it was going to be a working plane anyways, so just a quick freshen up would be fine. But, appreciate the heads up. I'm sure this isn't my last plane ;)

Just came across your work bench/out feed table. Have you ever done more modifications to it? I was really looking forward to seeing more for some ideas of one I want to make?
