Best floating dock building video I’ve come across. Thanks!
Terrific video. Right to the point. Thanks.
Very understandable process to flow, amazing thanks a lot
I want to build one in Sierra Leone , I will be the one directing the builders .
Nice video. No mention how to get it in the water??
Hi very good video and informative. Will be also interesting to give the budget or cost to make it on materials, that will be complete, with out labor vost involved of course.
Great video
Very helpful
Very impressive well constructed can’t imagine what that hardware cost but I bet it will last longer than the deck
Very understandable process to flow, amazing, thanks
Should show docking hardware to tie up boats and floats, otherwise fantastic 👍 🇨🇦 🍁 🇨🇦
This hardware kit is pretty impressive especially those corner brackets through and through outside and inside but I would have added corner braces in each corner let into the framing and also I would have only put four floats so that it floats down in the water a little bit closer to the surface but otherwise really cool build
I'm sure joist hangers or similar inside corner hangers would do the same and far less cost. I would keep outside corners using bolts and heavy brackets though
Do you have any idea how these types of floats fair in the lake in the freezing winter ?
Great
Thank you for the video!
Wondering if this deck would be structurally sufficient for building a floating house on it?
Scale it up and add more floatation. Also put lighter material where you can. Could work.
How long would a dock like this last permanently installed in a lake? Would rough wake splashes eventually damage the pressure treated wooden frame? If so, is there anything you would recommend to prolong the life of such a dock?
Great video by the way, clear and to the point. Thanks!
A dock like this should last anywhere between 15 - 30 years even in rough water. The reinforcing hardware should keep the frame from twisting apart if installed correctly. The best thing you can do is see what the most common building material used by marine contractors in your area is. Hope that helps.
@@seaportmarine6815 Thanks!
Great video, well done and thank you. Could you give a rough estimate on cost for the materials?
please call for estimate. 1-800-446-8056
How do you recommend anchoring this to land or to pilings? Is there recommended hardware for that or additional framing?

These are a couple of examples that will help with that. They are available in varying sizes.
Is 2x6 construction ok? I have to muscle the sections out ofnthe water every year. I was thinking 2 ten by ten sections. Blue skin all joists. Itll last longer.
That should be ok. I have never done that personally but I can't think of any reason why that wouldn't work.
What size material (wood) did you use for framing?
2" x 8" Rough Cut Pressure Treated
what float do you use for 16" on center i want to use 36"x48"x16"high but most 4' don't have 16" on center, most have only 3 screw down points
The floats that were used in this video measured to 48"L x 24"W x 16"H and their mounting points were 24" on center. I was not able to use all 6 mounting points but were able to use at least 3 per float. As long as it has at least 3 points of contact, you will be fine.
Waw I laik it
Why rough cut lumber?
What was the rough dimensions of this dock and also what is rough raw material cost (including the floaters) to build one yourself. Thanks!
8' x 12' and material runs roughly $1,200. That doesn't include lumber.
@@ttvdecimatedbyme9130 Normally we would but at the moment we don't have the man power to build and our truck is not making deliveries due to COVID-19. Under normal circumstances a fully build dock that size will run between $3000 - $5000 depending on the way you want it built.
Looks great. Any reason you are recommending pressure treated lumber? I would be worried about rules prohibiting use of pressure treated lumber due to chemicals in a lot of places.
Pressure treated lumber is going to last longer. Non-pressure will probably rot away within 5 years. You'll need to check the laws of your area.
What hardware and method can you recommend to attach 2 of these docks together?

@@seaportmarine6815 Thank you. Is a 12' dock the ideal when spanning multiples together? Or would a 16' or 20' be just as feasible? Just trying to understand any downfalls to building longer. Can I call someone to get hardware pricing for all hardware required to construct at 12 footer?
@@Snofly12 That all depends on how rough your water gets. Any size floating dock can be linked. A contractor that builds in your area would be able to tell you what would work best.
Where on the dock would you install a swim ladder?
Where ever you want the ladder to be.
Great video. I need to build my dock this year. Do you sell hardware shown in this video?
Yes indeed we do. we sell everything but the lumber. Give us a call and we'll work up a quote for you!
Do you have to take it out in the winter?
You don't really HAVE to but if your area is prone to ice, it might be a good idea.
@@seaportmarine6815 is the concern that the ice will damage the floats?
@@emdornblaser Ice could damage them. Might be best to get them out of the water.

If the inside wood is 2x8 , what is the size of the outside wood that'ts next to the THRUFLOW DECKING PANELS
2" x 12"
I would have liked to see it in the water.
Same here. The guy who bought it said it floated just fine.
Down drive deck done doing
I build these for a living

Yeah, So how much did that bad boy cost?, my guess close to 10K
Nope. We build aluminum framed docks cheaper than that. This dock was around 2 - 3k.
@@seaportmarine6815 no offense but I don't believe that price for a second. I've priced out the flotation alone at $2000 or better. Then there's the labor and... oh yeah, the crane.
