    Thanks Rob!
    I'll be making more videos each summer as I build more docks and nature trails with this hardware.
    Glad you like it!

    Great quick job! That’d cost about 100 k today ☹️ I built an 8x8 floating dock in 2004 with the somewhat new product composite decking with foam board and cheap storage tubes! Cost about 200 to 250 back then. It’s still floating to the day and is in good shape..I no longer own the property or pond but live near and help the buddy pull it out in the winter! 😎 I’m not much of a craftsman so it took me about 3 days! 😚

    I just made a pontoon boat barge with marine grade plywood. Its what is used on pontoon boats. Why not?Here are some of the reasons I did not choose Plywood.Cedar is light weight and has natural oils that preserve it. Those oils are what make it great for starting fires. It will turn driftwood grey if not stained. Some people like the natural look.It's a natural product that spans over my 2' floats (PT decking does as well but is much heavier). It's available at most lumber yards. The gaps let pine needles and water fall through. I can replace a board if I need to. There is less splintering than pressure treated Plywood.If I used PT Plywood, I might have good luck holding my tackle on the deck, less places to get snagged on. I think it would require 16" stringers so that adds to the weight. You could make removable panels but having a few that are permanently attached provides the sheer strength to keep the frame from twisting apart. Corner irons #6027A can be added on each stringer but not always needed. permanent decking nailed down is just like sheathing on a house. The floats will add some of that strength on the under side but permanent decking seems best.I also make these rafts with the decking nailed down instead of using removable deck panels.I would suggest doing this if the raft is in a windy location.The removable deck panels do not provide nearly as much strength to the frame but if you ever need to lift one out of the lake for the winter, you may find the weight is too much for 2 people if the decking is permanent.If you do use plywood, you may want to build the frame so that it is crowned up in the middle so water doesn't pool up. You could add a shim on the center one and 2 smaller shims on the next stingers and leave the outside without a shims.Just a thought.

    Great pier! It can be used as a raft for a mini dredger to clean the lake from mud. To do this, you need a motor pump for dirty water and a suction nozzle Bagermaster

    this video is exactly what i was looking for. thank you very much.
    what size and buoyancy were the floats and how much altogether did it weigh and more importantly cost?

    • @SethMerriam
      @SethMerriam  7 років тому

      The Dock Floatation was 2'x3'x12" and buoyancy is about 300 lbs each. They are more buoyant in salt water.greatnortherndocks.com/shop/dock-float-12x24x36-foam-filled/

      The planks are a standard at most lumber yards.2x6 Pressure Treated and Cedar Decking. Here is a link for example www.homedepot.com/p/5-4-in-x-6-in-x-16-ft-Premium-Radius-Edge-Cedar-Decking-Board-731934/202047688

      +Seth Merriam ok thanks!!! and was it wobbly at all In the water?

    • @SethMerriam
      @SethMerriam  8 років тому

      some, but as a raft that can go down the road without a wide load permit its as least wobbly as it can be without a keel. Also it can be lifted and moved with 2 strong people. if it's tied into a dock system, its not as wobbly. as a seasonal swim raft it works great with the wobble. Kids love them!

      +Seth Merriam Here is a photo of one loaded up with a family and it's floating free with no anchor chain or ramp from shore. They plan on taking it home by water instead of road. greatnortherndocks.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/Raft.jpg

      I used the 2'x3' foam filled in the video and it's 12" tall. You can use any of the floats on this page. The 3' has 300 lbs. buoyancy and the 4' has 400 lbs. buoyancy. greatnortherndocks.com/floating-hardware/plans-estimated-pricing/

      We have a swim raft like this. We use three cement blocks for the anchor. Each fall we unhook the raft and bring it on shore. The clip is on a float which sometimes gets sheared off by the ice in Spring. Is there another way to keep the hook up near the surface during winter?

    • @SethMerriam
      @SethMerriam  5 років тому

      12”x24”x36” about 300 lbs and the 12”x24”x48” float holds about 400 lbs.
