The Snyders mustard ones are sooooo good. They have been around for years.
I think Smoked Paprika would be good in split pea soup.
I don't care for honey mustard, but the Hanover honey mustard onion pretzel pieces are so good!
Yes. Went immediately to Aldi and tomato soup in the oven as I type this. Thanks for all the inspiration. 😅
Vegetarian here. I dont add anything to replace the ham, although I like the smoked paprika idea. Definitely use a good vegetable stock. I also add an apple, sounds odd, but cored and peeled, it completely disintegrate s. Adds thickness and a bit of sweetness. My kid's always devoured it.
Wow love the creativity of using an apple to thicken and sweeten it a bit. Thank you!
I can’t buy the pretzel pieces too often because they are so good I can’t stop eating them 😂My 23 year old son just lost his new prescription sunglasses so big boys bigger idk, problems I guess😢the umbrella reminded me 🫶🤦♀️
Thank you for this Aldi haul! I love the makeup wipes. So anxious to see your taste test.
Bulk it up with carrots and potatoes diced super fine. I’m a meat eater and I still do that.
Great tip, thank you!
I love the makeup remover sheets!
Katie, if you want that smoky flavor in your soup, you can use liquid smoke. You only need a little bit, so don't go crazy with it. It's vegetarian.
^ Seconded! Liquid smoke definitely, or even the vegan bacon bits!
Awesome suggestions from both of you, thank you!
I agree with the liquid smoke. A little goes a long way. I’d start with about 1/2 tsp. You can also add some smoked paprika.
The liquid smoke, veggie bacon bits, and smoked paprika are all great ideas (and exactly what I would recommend if you wanted to add a "bacon-y" note to a recipe). But honestly, I don't think split pea soup needs any of it - it's got such a distinct, specific flavor on its own, and I don't think added "smokiness" is necessary.
Would trader's Joe soy chorizo work?
I bought those sane tulips also .next ad I'm going Easter Monday to get the $9.99 40 oz.Stanley dupe cupe .can't wait .
Super easy to make split pea soup. Salt pepper and garlic and you’ve got yourself a yummy soup!!😊
I wonder if a little bit of plant based chorizo would give that great flavor that ham does
Wish. Had a Aldi near me. One day Utah might just get one… TJ made it here.
Love makeup wipes I buy all the time!!also try the night cream same brand
Split pea soup is the best!
I love your hauls I shop aldi all the time so I love your opinions on the new items ❤
Happy Easter to you and yours and yours and .....😄👍
Same to you!
I really love the makeup wipes. So affordable& a good product. Also the honey mustard pretzel pieces are the bomb.
You can replace the ham hock with Better Than Mushroom Stock and Mushrooms of your choice. Serve with watercress or a heap of chopped arugela. The Cuban garlic and citrus flavor mix gives it the a la revolucion edge.
Thank you so much for a great suggestion! I will look for better than mushroom stock!
For the split pea soup: etter than Bouillon has several vegetarian/vegan bases. maybe not the mushroom (you're welcome, Tim), and add hint of liquid smoke. Or go lighter on the BTB and use some smoked salt. Do any of the veg/vegan hot dog or sausage alternatives have enough flavor, you could sautee them with the celery, carrots & onions before adding the veg to the pot?
You can add a bit of smoked paprika. It will give some of that smoky flavor you would get with the ham or bacon.
Love your justification for a new vase
lol it doesn’t take much for me to convince myself 🤣
I make split pea soup either in a crock pot or my instant pot.
I bought vegan ham flavoring on Amazon. That's what I use for pots of pinto beans etc and split pea soup.
Delicious
I think I’m going to try it in the crock pot too. I’ll have to look into the vegan ham flavoring.
Just a hint Katie take the bacon bits in a skillet to heat them it brings great flavor to the bacon
Smoked paprika, baby! I usually also add potatoes to split pea soup. It's very hearty😉 BTW, I love your videos😉❤️
Thank you 😋
Use plant based sausage like the one from Trader Joe’s for the soup
I "need" that wine bag. Its a great price and I love thats its tall for wine bottles. U never know what u need till u need it so I'd rather have it than not. 😅
That’s my motto too!
So many great items. The harvest bowls look so good. I wonder how it would be to put Better Than Bouillon in the split pea soup? I usually buy the vegetable one but I think they are all vegan. Hope you will show your garden this year. 😊
I have vegetable bouillon in my fridge. I’m going to try it in the soup. Thank you Bonnie!
Smoked paprika, Kombu(dried seaweed)
Vegetarian version is just as good. You can add a little smoked paprika for smokiness
I make a vegetarian split pea soup in my slow cooker. I just googled vegetarian split pea soup recipes. I'm not vegetarian but I need to limit my salt intake, so I can't use ham as a base for the soup. I believe the recipe I found uses vegetable broth. I also add some brown rice and sometimes mixed veggies just to bulk it up a little.
Thank you!
Instead of using water, use vegetable stock to make your split pea soup. I don't use ham either and the veggie stock gives it a rich flavor.
Thank you, many others have suggested that too so I will definitely use vegetable stock.
Those harvest grain bowls are bigger than I expected!
They are super filling!
Great price for 10 tulips😀
definitely smoked paprika to mimic smoked hock flavor
My use to do ham, she would always put ham in split pea soup it was good.
Katie is vegetarian 🌱 🫠
Liquid smoke OR they make “faux” pork products that you could use.
I never made split pea soup but what came to mind was that soy chorizo from TJ I would chop and sauté with onion and diced carrots celery in olive oil add vegetable broth 2 boxes split peas and add more seasoning garlic powder salt pepper let it simmer low boil for a while until cooked and peas are nice soft , when done add extra crop soy chorizo and fresh parsley or you can put soup in blender to make it smooth and put back in pot with a little extra broth simmer on low a little longer;) that’s my on the fly recipe
You find great stuff. Terrible Aldi’s here but hope maybe there’s a better one somewhere like preferably Florida lol
My Aldi here in Florida is not that great compared to videos I see of others😢
@@cindytrayer4279 I had several Aldi‘s in Fort Lauderdale and some were better than others. Here in North Carolina it’s really bad where I am.
Katie, Are you familiar with the vegan products that taste like assorted bacons? On line, Deliciou? Pretty yummy! Just sprinkled on. 16:28
No I’m not but I will check it out. Thank you!
I haven't seen the video for the couscous, asparagus and parmesan cheese yet. Still planning on doing it?
Yes I am! This week has been a week 😅
Adding more fiber to your diet is an awesome cancer, fighting move, but just a friendly thought, processed foods are not your cancer fighting friends. 🙂
You are exactly right about processed foods. Unfortunately part of my job on UA-cam is to try out the new food items and they are mostly processed. Mostly I eat fresh fruits and vegetables, lots of beans and rice. Processed foods make up a very small part of my diet, now Tim on the other hand…that’s a different story lol 😆
@@KatieHespe Yes, I get it. I’m definitely not judging you, and I’m sure you do eat healthfully, I just generally want people to be healthy. Tim definitely is a concern! Sidenote, love the camaraderie with you and your mom. You guys have something very special. 💕
Katie can you let me know if there are any Easter clearance items at Aldis. I am Greek Orthodox and Orthodox Easter is May 5th this year. I would like to find some clearance items to buy food or items.
Yes I will!
❤❤❤👍👍👍
If you can find the Goya brand ham seasoning (NOT the ham concentrate which does contain ham derivatives) - the ingredients are: SALT, MONOSODIUM GLUTAMATE, ARTIFICIAL HAM FLAVOR, HYDROLIZED VEGETABLE PROTEIN, SILICA (ANT-CAKING AGENT) So I believe it would be vegetarian. Its a little packet of bouillon powder. I used to use it when I was a student with no money trying to flavor bean soups and things like southern green beans. It tastes extremely similar to if you used ham.
We don't have the same items at Aldi here in St. Charles, Mo.
That’s so strange. I thought they would all carry the same things.
@@KatieHespeI work in retail and definitely not, unfortunately. Areas get product according to demographic.
I don't shop at Aldi's.
I went into one since they're bragging about the all new Aldi's.
Nothing new that I saw.
Just a bunch of generic food.
I walked in and walked back out.
It takes a while to navigate the store. I thought the same thing the first few times I went. Now I recognize what’s new and good. I say give it another chance if you have time to browse the aisles. 😊
It really depends where you live in the country. ALDIs in my city are awesome!
