A few times when Finch visits Root in the cage, she's looking out of the window. There's actually a theory that the Machine is communicating with her by blinking streetlights or a traffic light, which would be hella awesome.
illfit title, yes, but wow, such an underrated scene, and i am so glad to see it again. that glimpse of vicious excitement in the phrase "Has his number finally come up?" amy acker is just a godess in this role.
such an underrated SHOW! ps: AMEN about amy acker! Root is one of my all time favorite TV characters- and it’s all due to her! her performance is just simply mesmerizing. try to imagine someone else in the role. it’s impossible. she was born to play Root haha. no one else does “Perky Psycho” like her. (haha a description Shaw once used🙃)
@@gunnyking7890 I'd say more jealous than anything, and it's his own fault. He layed out a simple system of communication for him and the machine. It respected that and continued that with him. The machine just needed a 3rd tier other than the Relevant and irrelevant lists so it used Root as it's interface to do that. Hence why their connection is more intimate.
@@gunnyking7890 i doubt it, everytime the machine showed comcern about harold he tried and did kill the machine and he did so many times thats the main reason that in season 5 the machine saw harold and reese as a threat because it remembered harold killing him over and over
A more intimate connection yes, but ultimately more dangerous as the machine shared Finch's moral framework albeit implemented with more ruthless pragmatism
LOVE this scene/episode. i’m waiting for someone to make a Root+Finch compilation. their journey together is just incredible. it began with her- a hacker + assassin- kidnapping him after murdering a woman, and ended up with her valuing human life & joining the team to help save the lives of the numbers. their first encounter was root kidnapping finch. and it’s just amazing watching the gradual change and growth of their relationship. eventually ending up as close friends, comrades, come to respect+truly love each other, lean on each other when needing advice or help, became partners in crime with computers, and had countless thoughtful discussions concerning the Machine,A. I., methods, hubris, and morality. haha guess i just made a written version of a root+finch compilation haha. damn i love this show 🙃
One of my favorite scenes is when Root turns from Mr Finch's antagonist to his protector. It happens in the park. A sniper kills the man that built a home for The Machine, Agents are closing in, Root raises her pistol, and fires, calmly saying, "You will NOT touch him."
@@smc1942 looooove that too!!! And she even continues with it throughout the show. Like when she and finch are captured by Samaritan (yaknow, when it gave the machine the choice of giving Samaritan its location or releasing the 2 humans) and the girl assassin explains how she’ll be killing finch and “I bet he’ll die without so much as a peep + root says “lay a hand on him… and I’ll kill you. Omg the delivery of that line was perfection. And then yay she did! Martine then caressed his face and root immediately snapped her neck, ending it with “….what do ya know? Not a peep.” Sooo good. Omg that was so long haha… sorry! I could go on and on and on about this damn show and all the scenes I adore (and know by heart haha) but nice to find a fellow mega fan ☺️✌️
There was one episode, probably about the one just prior to John, as he sold the briefcase to the Chinese that John was supposed to die after retrieving.
He should've set her free. Then Carter would still be alive. From a story standpoint. I know Taraji probably wanted out or the somebody else said "time to go" or whatever. But in the story, GOSH DARN IT HAROLD!
Taraji had already agreed that she would only be in the show up to season 3. I think she didn't want to be tied to one role for too long and that made it useful for the producers to give a sense of consequence by killing off a main character. But yeah, I agree. :P If only Harold had listened. Though of course he wasn't to know.
She rewrote the code in the Machine to get to speak to her. Since Finch created it, he remembered every digit of code and it has changed since Root started talking to it.
***** She didn't though, did she? I can't remember Root ever actually writing anything into the Machine's code. That's why Root was so surprised to get the call in the season 2 finale. The Machine apparently contacted Root on her own.
4Tom4lepus4 Yeah, I remember that episode. When a bunch of people were typing in a bunch of codes in computers, which was the Machine's memories. But the were erased at a certain time, along with the irrelevant numbers because that's how Finch designed it.
The Machine sees Harold as her father. Root loves and trusts the Machine ultimately above her own survival instinct and will do anything for her. If she hurt Harold she thinks the Machine will disprove or disown her (which she would) and she'd lose her connection to the one thing she trusts implicitly above her own life the 'perfect' lifeform. Another reason is that Harold also suggests that the Machine wants Root there, so after pondering on that she concedes waiting for her God to call her back.
If Root is the "Analog Interface," then after that hospital reprogramming, how much of Root is still Root, and how much she just is the the machine's manipulated hand?
(kinda of an old question, but still...) His social security number, its how the machine alerts that someone is either going to put someones life in danger or that their life is in danger
Root is probably the most evil character out of the entire collection of entities. Had she fixed her fatal flaw... I shudder to think what she might have accomplished.
Root was a bad person who used to extort people for things, capable of killing and brilliant hacker. Once she found out about the machine (artificial intelligence that Harold made for the government), she became its analog interface, doing ‘her’ bidding to help the team and its own interest.
Why ? She made the show more entertaining. Carter, Fusco, John and Harold are all kind of similar. All of them are on the one hand nice and help people but on the other hand also badass people. Root and Shaw made the series more entertaining because they are really different. Root is a psychopath and Shaw is a killer without feelings. They both fit perfect to the show

could also be high frequency pulses, which explains why the dog doesn't like being around her
As many times as Finch got to her, she also got to Finch. These two were definitely playing on the same level.
Well she is a computer genius as well.
I love how you can see her influnce in him after their first prolonged encounter, he even uses her verbage "bad code" to talk about a number
Root and Finch are great. All their scenes are so intense. Great dynamics. Thanks for uploading.
bullshit

Finch was so angry that the machine didn't love him the most.

@Yusuf yep maybe even root and reese would have ended differently
I think “Cookie” (Empire TV show)called her. lol
@Yusuf He just had to keep testing the Machine and doubting the morality involved.
Didn't seem to me like he figured anything out in this scene :D

4Tom4lepus4 That's true and I remember that. I still know how the Machine's code was altered, but you're right about that.
***** Didn't the Machine change on its own? It employed a couple people who kept typing in the Machine's "memory", right?
4Tom4lepus4 Yeah, I remember that episode. When a bunch of people were typing in a bunch of codes in computers, which was the Machine's memories. But the were erased at a certain time, along with the irrelevant numbers because that's how Finch designed it.
If Root has an 'intimate' relationship with the Machine, that explains why she calls the Machine a 'she' (given her sexual inclination)!
haha
The machine just keeps ringing that phone.
@@Jimmy_Jones underrated comment
Root is a little bit Fred and a little bit Illyria.
Did they ever say why she stays in the cage. See that with her abilities she could take Finch out easy.

She has an ankle bracket that shocks her whenever she gets too close to the boundaries

Why do you think that Root would care about how much is left of OG Root? Being the Machines hand is basically her heaven.
What special number she reffered to?
(kinda of an old question, but still...)

nobody cares if root actually shower/pee/shit when locked up like that
There are no toilets on the Enterprise.
Why is Root still even breathing?
because shes an amazing character
I suspect it's a spiritual connection
i am not a dinasour
you guys have to believe me
Can someone explain who she is. I haven't seen the show. Is she the machine or evil? I dont know
7F5 watch the show, nerd
