He literally tore her down, destroyed her way of thinking and showed her the truth. All while insulting her, her job and her self righteousness. You can see Control is scared, every move and counter argument was prepared for. At the end she finally realized it, Harold used her and Samaritan to get what he wanted. Only because she was in "the dark", she couldn't foresee Harold or be prepared for the truth. Harold is the ultimate clap back king

Well, those two have acted together before. She was Eleanor Frutt on "The Practice" and he played the serial killer William Hinks. She didn't have a whole lot of scenes with him. I remember she was only in maybe one scene with him, where he was threatening Lindsey Dole and the secretary, Lucy. I bet those two never thought they'd act in another show together after "The Practice" ended and he went to be Ben Linus on "LOST."

The body language and the facial expressions in this scene are top notch. Root was ready right there to finish off Control because of what Control did to her and what she may have had to do with Shaw, but when Finch stops her, the look on her face at :28 to :30 speaks volumes, as if she might even turn on him at that point. And the way Finch leans in at :57 as his eyes are practically boring into Control, trying as hard has he can to reason with her and then finally cutting her down to size...every word and look are perfect here.

And it was ALL a ploy to lure her team, one or more of whom are linked into to Samaritan's network. She was just bait! The mental body slam by Harold was just gravy. You see, while Root can inflict some physical damage...that heals and maybe even further entrenches Control against Team Machine. But Harold's masterful unraveling of Control, her purpose, her mission, her worth, her imagined importance...that completely erodes her will. She is now incapable of trusting her own team, or taking stock in any mission Samaritan gives her...after all...is she just being cast as the janitor again!

I just realized, the reason Finch deadnames Root is not because he disrespects her but because he abhors what her chosen name stands for ... in Unix 'root' is a sign of absolute power, more so that 'admin' accounts on other computers (which are still subject to some restrictions) - essentially God. And not just God, but a god who claims power over his creation... which transitively means power over everyone on Earth. He finds a society with a person who is "root" unacceptable.
