I started watching these because I intended to DIY, but the more I watch, the more I appreciate the craft, and the little details that come with experience. I'll probably contract my build as a result.

The red steel can be done DIY if you are able to read plans, have equipment and some friends to help. But I wouldn't suggest doing the insulation and sheeting yourself. Especially the roof.

Nice looking building. From the video your craftsmanship looks great, something to be proud of.

Foam insulation is the way to go, it bounds everything together and is more air tight than regular insulation

Great videos. I am building a 30' x 50' steel garage, with one other person helping. Can you tell me what to check to be sure it is square before trying the roofing? Is 1/4" over 10' out of plumb too much? and lastly can you tell me what inspectors look for? I appreciate your videos and help.

Is there an example of what you call a 'wing column' in any of your videos/ Also - why did they want a black roof on this job?

Love the videos. How long do you think it would take 4 guys with fork and scissor. To do the shell of 30x80 with 3 overhead and 2 man doors?

I love it! What part would you would do differently if you had to build another one? What step/process would you outsource if you had to do this again?

I don't understand what you mean? I am a contractor who builds steel buildings. This is the first step in the build process. In this particular build we didn't install the insulation. The customer is handling the finishes on the interior. He has contracted with an insulation company to use spray foam and opted to not use the metal building Insulation that we usually install at the time of installing the steel.

Youu may build out the interior as nice as you would like. We have built these to live in or weekend cabins.

Hello, thanks for filming some of these videos. They have been very helpful for me.
I have a question for you. I’m in the middle of building a 40x50x14 steel building. I sheeted three of the four walls and hurt myself half way through the last wall. (Happens to be the front of the building and where I have the only large opening 12x12 with a walk door between the roll up and end wall corner. There is steel wind X bracing on the part of the wall that’s finished.
My question is... I started to get working on finishing it up and found out that somehow the 12x12 framed opening and mostly the entire wall is slightly off plumb. It’s out of plumb and leans about 1/4 inch over the 14 foot high post. I’ve tightened the wind bracing and without removing 35 feet of the wall sheeting I can’t seem to get it closer. I’ve tried ratchet straps etc but It’s not really moving anymore. It’s only out a little bit but I’m afraid that it’s going to make problems when I’m roofing it. Its an MBCI building. Would you recommend I use a chain or two and really pull it until I finish the wall sheeting? Or remove half the wall ? It’s all insulated too so u know the pain in the butt I’m experiencing.
I’m curious to hear what you think. Thanks again, randy.

@@stuckinbabylon186 The wall probably will not move now that wall panels are installed. A 1/4" in 14' is not very critical. Solutions: remove screws from panels except for one, at the top of each panel. This will make it possible to get the columns plumb. Then u can re screw the wall panels. make sure your laps stay tight in this process to keep from leaking. Using this process, with such little movement, the screws will probably go back in the same holes and u will be back to where u started.
#2 loosen bolts on door jambs and you can probably get an 1/8" movement at top and bottom to get plumb. As far as wall panels just keep the remaining plumb each one you install. This way u can keep corner trims plumb and parallel to panels and this will hide the frame discrepancy. When u install the door make sure your brackets are level and keep tracks plumb. The jambs are probably not perfectly straight. You adjust tracks accordingly to work with door: this is more critical than jambs being plumb.
When starting roof make sure you square frame first before installation of panels and it should be just fine. I pull a string on eave then use this to square my rakes. If you are using pbr panels then you can make minor adjustments to stay on profile by ("Drawing the panel or stretching the panel.")

Building with NARF Thank You very much for taking the time to explain that! I completely understand what you are saying and I’ll try to see what I can do to get it as plumb as possible and if I do need to loosen panels I’m probably better off doing it now when I have the chance. I can’t thank you enough for the advice and the super fast reply! Thanks!
What do you recommend to use to get some of that film that baked onto one of my corner cap trims. I can stuck it in the back where it’s not too visible but I’m curious if you have a trick.. WD-40 maybe? That thin film protects the painted trim but man it’s a bugger to get off when it’s been sun beaten and doesn’t peel off.
