I only just heard this song for the first time. I was born eight years after this song was released and have lived my whole life in America where it wasn't a hit. This would be a great song to play at dance clubs honestly.
I was 11 when this was out, old enough to appreciate the era of dance music that was 1988-2001. Trust me, no-one will ever be nostalgic for 2018 the way we are for the 90s.
@@SmippeHyrst Don't forget 2002. That year sticks in my head because of all the great dance compilation albums from that year that I bought and played in my hotel room in Kavos, Corfu. They included artists like Flip & Fill, Kelly Llorrena, Dee Dee, Milk Inc, N-Trance, ATB, Scooter, Ian Van Dahl, Lasgo, DJ Sammy, Junior Senior, LMC, Paffendorf etc
Such an amazing tune and the start of Lisa's career tbh. She's done fantastically well over the years. Such a shame that auto tune and all these people that i've never heard of collaborating with each other. Never listen to the charts or radio these, days, i prefer to listen to my old skool house etc and remember the good old days. God bless you all. x
Coldcut could have stuck to having big House hits but they were innovative in so many areas ,video , break beat , app’s , Ninja tune the list goes on , very underrated group.
Coldcut were pioneers of UK club music is the late eighties and nineties along with Bomb The Bass and S'Express if nothing else they deserve to be remembered for that if nothing else.
Everybody's looking for a meaning. Everybody's doing their own thing. Ain't nobody solving the problems. Ain't nobody helping each other. Some people give in to fear. Some people give in to hunger. Some of us live for the future and some of us wonder. Giving in to life, giving in to love, maybe there's enough for everyone.... People hold on. In some ways, the world hasn't changed much since 1989.
LYRICS (YEAR 1989): Everybody's looking for a meaning Everybody's doing their own thing And nobody's solving the problem Ain't nobody helping each other Some people give into fear Some people give into hunger Some of us live for the future And some of us wonder Givin' into life, givin' into love Maybe there's enough for everyone Givin' into hope, and into trust Maybe there's enough for everyone People hold on Don't do yourself wrong People hold on We've got to be strong People hold on Everybody's getting frustrated Why should we live with this hatered We've all dancin' on a thin line They're makin' out we're having a good time So who's gonna give us the answer Sister and brother Givin' into life, givin' into love Maybe there's enough for everyone People hold on Don't do yourself wrong People hold on We've got to be strong People hold on People hold on, people hold on to it You know you gotta do it Givin' into life, givin' into love Maybe there's enough for everyone Givin' into hope, and into trust Maybe there's enough for everyone People hold on Don't do yourself wrong People hold on We've got to be strong People hold on
This song is unique in that it was recorded for her first album "Affection" but was left off the album. The video was filmed before "All Around the World" and the song was released as a single in 1989 but it did not appear on a CD until Lisa's self-titled 1997 album as a bonus track (bootleg mix).
Richard Pastor so interesting to know. Her look I thought was going back to her "Affection" days and now I know why! Had this been relased earlier it would've been been a HUGE hit iround the same time as her "All Around The World". I'm glad for your info 😊
The end of that breakdown 2:55......jeez! Makes me so happy. They hold it for like 3 seconds, vocal and then.....BANG! straight back into the bridge. Fucking love this tune!!
BBC2 "I Love 1989" brought me here
2024 .. we’ve been waiting.

Loved this track back in the day.
It's aged well too. Still sounds fresh today.
I will always love Lisa's voice.Soulful and smooth.
Whoh, Coldcut and Lisa Stansfield predicted the future.

Just like me :)
Tanguy Tertrais, you would be far more nostalgic if you knew the era, believe me...

I lived it and beleive me it was amazing. And I knew it at the time, but just not quite how amazing.

The most culturally and politically important British dance record of the decade change from 80s to 90s.
It's a classic but surely 808 State Pacific State is the most important British dance track of the turn of the 90s.

Everybody's getting frustrated
Why should we live with this hatered
We've all dancin' on a thin line
They're makin' out we're having a good time
So who's gonna give us the answer
Sister and brother
Givin' into life, givin' into love

We've got to be strong
