This is how it's done Ladies! The One. The Only. The Lady. The Legend. Miss Neneh Cherry! This Swedish Treasure is criminally underrated! She deserved a wider audience then! She deserves wider recognition NOW!
Notice the music doesn’t repeat a single word over and over or have auto tune and doesn’t use the n- word or vulgar language? This was last of true ol skool rap/ hip hop tunes.
The song I wish that more people heard was her response to "This is a Mans World" on her album Man. She would take inspiration and have a purpose for it rather than just "sounds neat". I love that she was touring with Lenny Kravitz and then performing Buddy X which is like "you think im going to stay quiet with your cheating?"
Oh man, the parties we used to throw with this song bumping in the background. That was one crazy and unforgettable summer in Oklahoma City. Thanks Neneh for the great memories. Your timeless song will always be with me. 😊🙏🏾❤️
@Youmaywanttorethinkthat I know that, but her mom was with Don Cherry before she got with Jah. I know she was around Don way more than Jah. It was Don Cherry who inspired Neneh to get involved in music. She had two fathers
This song never gets old- last time I heard/ saw this was in the Hard Rock Cafe in Paris with my daughter! I took her to Paris for her 10th birthday and we got up and danced like two crazy foreigners to this banging beat! Then received a round of applause! Brings back memories of my childhood and now my motherhood! ❤️❤️❤️
+gluserty Indeed! I heard it as a child and I thought it was the cutest song ever, and even now I register how childlike the music is, as if it came from a children's show, despite the slightly more mature themes. It's amazing how fresh it's remained, and not even in an ironic 80's kind of way, like a lot of great 80's tracks.
Perspective matters though. It's a classic song, but it's a staple 90's sound. I think most 90's music has turned cheesy and cringeworthy since then. 80's songs aged better. I'm not saying it's bad, it just didn't age like wine imo. I know it came out in the 80's but it's a classic 90's sound
This song instantly brings me back to summer 1989, early teens, hanging out at the lake trying to meet guys. We'd wear spandex shorts and cutoff tank tops, Ellise shoes, big clunky earrings and red lipstick. That was one of the best times of my life, and now in this shit year of 2021, I find comfort in my memory and the music that became the soundtrack of my life. I wish I could run and hide in my memory forever, back in the good old days before adulthood and responsibility... It's funny because I back then I wanted to be grown so bad, little did I know how great I actually had it. I wish I could've stayed 13 forever.
Haha, you echo my thoughts completely. In my mind, I’m still like 20 (sometimes 14 lol) and a lot of that has to do with how awesome times were back then. It’s not just a nostalgia thing, the world really has gone absolutely insane over the last couple of decades.. slowly at first, and then faster and faster. Welcome to the future. Not what I envisioned.
Wow you're comment made me cry because I wish I could go back to those days myself I remember how this country was back then as well everything you said is true we really didn't know what we had at the time because I sure do miss them so bad
Man I loved this jam when I used to watch it on MTV in the late 80s, back when they played VIDEOS!! Always liked her gold flight jacket. Never seen one like it before or since. You rule, Nenah!!!!

Love how 90's songs were so individualistic, the music videos are so fun to watch and the music is just great and optimistic, even when the message is deep
@@MGrimandi Calm down Karen, it's close enough to fit into the genre I'm referring to. Maybe you should take notes from some of these songs and stop being such a Debbie downer

Thats a simple but sweet guitar synth. Though you have funk genre era of the 70s to thank, late 80s and early 90s pop used the guitar synth religiously and took it to a level we still haven't surpassed even with the technology we have now. You got Milli vanilli, Fine young canibals etc. Some producers of the late 90's early 2000 such as Pretty Tony were some of the last acts.

@@maroon2k Thanks
Not heard it for years until today, can't get it out of my head now. Took me right back to the late 80s. What a chorus!
This used to be in those L'Oreal hair adverts.
yeah!
Я услышал её в начале 90х,) , музыка детства.
This is how it's done Ladies! The One. The Only. The Lady. The Legend. Miss Neneh Cherry! This Swedish Treasure is criminally underrated! She deserved a wider audience then! She deserves wider recognition NOW!
Exactly. She deserved better
Notice the music doesn’t repeat a single word over and over or have auto tune and doesn’t use the n- word or vulgar language?
This was last of true ol skool rap/ hip hop tunes.
She's not Swedish. She's British. Her brother, Eagle-Eye, is from Sweden.
@@aramorenberg3325 Yes, she *is* Swedish. Neneh Cherry was born in Stockholm, Sweden. So, the OP was right.😊👌
Oh man, the parties we used to throw with this song bumping in the background. That was one crazy and unforgettable summer in Oklahoma City.
Thanks Neneh for the great memories. Your timeless song will always be with me. 😊🙏🏾❤️
What a glorious blast from the past! ❤
This track is absolutely timeless.
yes buffalo stance
It's sounds so ahead of its time like late 90s and early 200s but it was made in the 80s
Totally bro.
Absolutely! So very ahead of its time. Amazing production.
This is pump up the jam song in the 80s!
Who else is going through their favorite jams thinking about life back in the days? Please tell me I'm not the only one✌🏼️
Its call rewinding
lmao - I just replied to your same comment on Madonna get into the groove! 😂😂 I be following ya! 😁
You're not alone brother, I spend half my time back in the days...
in wigan lancs
Yeah. Another 80s icon I love is Madonna.
Neneh truly was inspired by her father, the jazz legend Don Cherry. I knew he's smiling down from Heaven with glee
@Youmaywanttorethinkthat I know that, but her mom was with Don Cherry before she got with Jah. I know she was around Don way more than Jah. It was Don Cherry who inspired Neneh to get involved in music. She had two fathers
He was also the father of Eagle Eye Cherry ....
She is lovely!!!💕 I'm sure he's proud!!!
Stepfather
He's the father that stepped up, and he passed away at her house
Very good vibes
I had this music on my Walkman 35 years ago
too bad that your walkman didnt had tetris on it:)))
Me too.
Yeah... It's all about you you YOU...
Next time take me to Paris with you …..I’m a fun time girl…….😁💗🙏🏻
I always thought this song was catchy, and ahead of it's time.
no thanks
+gluserty No doubt bro
+gluserty Indeed! I heard it as a child and I thought it was the cutest song ever, and even now I register how childlike the music is, as if it came from a children's show, despite the slightly more mature themes. It's amazing how fresh it's remained, and not even in an ironic 80's kind of way, like a lot of great 80's tracks.
Dandylion
I agree with everything you said; I first heard the song over the loudspeakers at a Buffalo Bisons baseball game back in 1988.
It's a 90's song that managed to appear in the 80's
That synth hook during the chorus is stupid brilliant.
Think it's an Ensoniq Mirage.. was a popular preset.
This whole song is stupid brilliant, emphasis on brilliant
Simple but they fly straight at your heart.
@@radofficial4672 I've would've said a Prophet 5 "sync", as used by Bernie Worell & Herbie Hancock back in the 70's & early 80's
The radio version from 89 showed off that synth a little more.
As a born and raised Buffalo NYer doNOT think this song still ain't our shxt 🎶💃🏾🎼 Nena Cherry you are cherished in Buffalo NY gurlll 🎼♥️🎶🥰🎵🤗
What about Malcolm Mclaren's 'Buffalo Gals'.
Put youze guys on the map man ha ha.

This song makes want to get up and dance! I still have my 12 inch vinyl I bought back in 89' One of my favorite tracks!
This song is like wine, 🍷 it's not aging, it's still sounds better to me than a lot of what you hear in mainstream music these days, even in 2022
Lol. It sounds like aged wine 🍷🍾
Perspective matters though. It's a classic song, but it's a staple 90's sound. I think most 90's music has turned cheesy and cringeworthy since then. 80's songs aged better. I'm not saying it's bad, it just didn't age like wine imo. I know it came out in the 80's but it's a classic 90's sound
true that. am 25 and totally agree. this is music. what they call ' music ' now a days is trash
You are so right!
@@Susan-mpaso I LOVE this song and Neneh was SO FINE back in the day. LOL.
I was the same age too, Summer of 1989 13 and so full of life and energy! ahhh the good ole days!
I’m a male 45 years old I could not agree with you more , what a time this carry on now is a totally nonsense
Freaking GOOD TIMES!!! We didn’t know how lucky we all were!! I wish I could go back .
Wow you're comment made me cry because I wish I could go back to those days myself I remember how this country was back then as well everything you said is true we really didn't know what we had at the time because I sure do miss them so bad
Man, this song takes me back to high school. How I miss the 80's! I would love nothing more than to go back and re-live those days.
Same here, so much fun times and less social media and internet. Back when hanging out was it !
Man I loved this jam when I used to watch it on MTV in the late 80s, back when they played VIDEOS!! Always liked her gold flight jacket. Never seen one like it before or since. You rule, Nenah!!!!
I remember this so well in the summer of 1989 on the radio.
we ain't getting younger
Me too!
You're gonna make me cry bro I was 16 at the time.
I was 19.
@@fredlandry6170 same but great times 👍
I'm 362 years old and always look back with much fondness to this late 19th century bop.
😂😂😅
😮😮😮😮 what..
Neneh Cherry is absolutely awesome!!
I've always thought that if she'd ever met Prince, he would have gone nuts for her. Exactly the type of woman he went for.
How do u know they didnt?
@@JumpinJakalopes I don't, of course. But I've never read or heard even a rumour about it. They may have met, I guess, who knows? But Im pretty sure she woulda mentioned it in a interview at some point if she had. I mean..wouldn't you?
Timeless and ageless track - She was definitely a pioneer of the female rap-sing trend which became more prominent as the years rolled on
Boring post
Those 2 ladies dancing in the background are the unsung stars of this video.
They’re giving it 💯
I think they were backing singers for George Michael as well
Someone commented they look like they're caught in a mouse trap.
She should had left them off the video.😣
I'm obsessed with their look.
What a great feel good song with a message. Love the 90s music era.❤
I love her!!! I bought her cassette tape in the 80's and realized what a serious artist she is. Her music is still timeless. It doesn't sound dated.
What is this "cassette tape" you speak of?
i almost made that comment. It really doesn't. Manchild, Kisses on the Wind...very enjoyable still today. No shame, no guilty pleasure...just good.
30 years ago this song was released new in MTV
The years was 1989.
Many things have truly changed since
I will let you know when I find my dang time machine, but when I do ... I am gone 😜✌

Damn, this sounds as fresh today as it did 30 years ago.

This Appears to be A Combo of the Top-40 Version -and- the Extended 12" Mix. I could be wrong. STILL... Great to hear it going strong in 2019!!! ;-)
um she said not to get fresh with her
Masterpiece. LOVE Neneh Cherry! Soooo good!
33 years later, it’s still a great hit.
Love how 90's songs were so individualistic, the music videos are so fun to watch and the music is just great and optimistic, even when the message is deep
Actually, this song is from 1988. Sorry but nothing can beat the 80s.
@@MGrimandi Calm down Karen, it's close enough to fit into the genre I'm referring to. Maybe you should take notes from some of these songs and stop being such a Debbie downer
@@sateIIitepilot nope - you're wrong, has noting to do with the 90s. you should apologise to Karen for being a Dick.
I know what ya mean.
Nothing nineties

The 80s were the best times, and the music was great..I wish we could go back to those days, I sure do miss them.. Be blessed🙏
It's such a nice song; 35 years later, it's still enjoyable to listen !

i used to deliver pizzas to this music with the Bass pumped up. Neneh Cheery, Tpau, U2, johnny kemp, and others in a 1987 chevy celebrity. smooth ride.
And look where you are now.Lol
+brobicho 😂😂😂
Oh dear lord... that new-wavey guitar starting at 3:33 is incredible. What a great song.
It really is.😀
