I've gotta say, this was probably the show I was least interested in when it was first announced, but it ended up being my favorite of the bunch so far. Though I do agree, I really wish Jack's whole red herring story was resolved earlier, because he was so fun to watch in that finale and I want more of that.

I liked this show more than the others, might even give it a rewatch eventually. I think the Kingpin bit was rushed but given Echo is getting her own show he's bound to return as that's most of her conflict and antagonist.

@@sargentocapitao9668 There's a good foundation there but at the moment I'd say no. Between her not having her comic book powers, at least so far, and also us not knowing if she got rid of the biggest motivator her story had its hard to think at the moment she deserves one.
That said I did like her character and the actress playing her. If that stuff mentioned was handled with care I'd be interested.

@@mercurialfunk When the actress was hired for Maya, I don't believe at that time they had any definite plans to push through an "Echo" series. However during production I think they were so impressed with her natural charisma in the role, that is when they decided to move forward. Certainly the story in "Echo" will need to be good but if they don't try to do too much with it, I think it can be pretty good.

Yes, they decided to give Echo her own show during the production of _Hawkeye._ I enjoyed Maya in this, and I'm interested to see where they take her. At this point, though, it seems like the relationship arcs tied to her motivation have come to a conclusion.

The thing with the LARPers at the end getting into costume is something I read differently. They're trying to direct people to safety dressed as waitstaff. If they were in uniform (police or firefighter) people would have paid more attention to them and follow their direction. By switching to their LARP costumes they now present as super-heroes and people were more likely to follow their lead. It made sense to me in the narrative, not just as a comedy beat.

I don't know... it felt like a diss to officers and fire fighters who act heroicly every week. Is the message of the show that you have to play make believe to be a hero? That's a downer of a message

    • @BluesShouter
      @BluesShouter 2 роки тому +3

@@sivad1025 I wouldn't necessarily take that message from the episode. Their involvement in the plan to begin with already speaks to their heroism. You can puzzle over why they brought their costumes as a wardrobe change instead of their work uniforms, but it wouldn't be a shock to find out that first responders in the MCU idolize superheroes. You could explain it as them having a LARP session before the party that evening and just happened to have their costumes on them.

I did love the show, overall. You can call it safe, but I think that’s essentially what it was going for to begin with. The show feels like a Christmas present to Hawkeye fans. No matter how much of a statement I thought it might be for Kingpin to personally retire Clint by offing him, I knew he needed to get home for Christmas in this kind of gig.
Also, potential spoilers? Comic spoilers? Maya/Echo shoots Kingpin in the face in a similar fashion in the comics. He comes back blinded with tape all over his face. That could work as a “behind the scenes” villain for Echo Season 1 or even the Post Credits if she moves onto something else for the majority of the season.

For me, a microcosm of the series' problems was in the final 3-4 fights scene happening concurrently: Kate vs kingpin, clint vs yelena, maya vs kazi, maya vs kingpin. Just so much having to be resolved so quickly. I agree that it would've helped to bring in yelena or kingpin early. Personally would've liked yelena to come in episode 2-4, have that resolved and her run off, and the tracksuit stuff still happen, but only reveal at the end of the finale that the mastermind was kingpin all along

You aren't alone. The great thing about the MCU is that it has something for everyone. I was pretty satisfied with the show. I mean, it might not have been as investing as Wandavision with its riddles, might not have had the system critical undertones of Falcon and the Winter Soldier, it might not have had the humour of Loki, but it had something, what the other shows lacked: A satisfying finale! I really liked Hawkeye, it was a fun show, especially the finale. I didn’t need it to be anything more than it was, but do feel like it hit some depths with Clint’s character and his closure with Black Widow, maybe more than you gave credit for. I do agree about Kingpin… it felt very comic book inspired, on one hand, and fun to bring him in and beat him up, but yeah, that all happened so quick, it almost feels like they did him dirty, and it didn’t seem to carry much consistency from his arc in Daredevil. I too thought that his underlings were a bunch of goons, moreso than in Daredevil for sure.

And we have Wilson Fisk now officially in the MCU! So much potential for future shows like She-Hulk, Secret Invasion and first and foremost: Echo's own show, where I think we'll see what really happened in that scene with her and Kingpin - and judging from the comics...oh yeah, I'm hyped!

I share pretty much the same feelings. Overall, I really liked Hawkeye, even though there were some issues. The storytelling was pretty messy at times because there were a bit too many threads and some of them didn't connect that well. Also, the editing in some scenes wasn't great for maintaining good flow and pacing. But I mostly overlooked these issues because I was having so much fun. I thought the characters were great, and it was so fun seeing them interact and seeing the partnership between the two Hawkeyes grow throughout the series. I don't think this was the best Marvel Disney+ series so far, but it is probably my favorite.

I think this show was pretty lopsided overall, but I really bought into the LARPers and their part in the last episode. I appreciated how they'd set up the new outfits, but mostly it was a really nice callback to when Grills' wanting to pretend to be a hero, if only for a few minutes and as part of a fantasy. These guys stepped up when their guy needed them and they got to be the kind of heroes they dreamed of being. It's sentimentalist, I know, but it really works for me.

As to Maya, they've already announced the Echo series. I agree that there's no way Kingpin is dead and it wouldn't shock me to find he's the main antagonist of her series. Maybe they also have her interact with other Netflix heroes (Daredevil, Luke Cage, or Jessica Jones). DD has experience dealing with Kingpin, Luke Cage is set up as a player in the underground crime scene. Lots of possibilities. But I'm just speculating.

I agree with a lot of this, but so much more of _Hawkeye_ worked than what didn't that it ended up as one of my favorites.
My main issue is that 6 episodes is not enough time for all of the plot threads to develop enough. I think the show made efficient use of its time, but I especially would like to see more of the relationships between characters.
And I cannot sanction the Tracksuit Mafia bros' buffoonery. With the exception of Maya and Kazi, the organization was too much of a joke. That undermined the Kingpin seeming like a real threat.

I really enjoyed Hawkeye. It was fun and they got me emotionally at the end. I want to know more about Hawkeye's wife now that we have that reveal. The only things that didn't work for me was rushing the Kingpin and Yelena storylines with Eleanor. I think they should have led up to those moments more. I wanted more Yelena too, but I get why they didn't use her as much. The Kingpin storyline will be continued in Echo, but it would have been nice for them to add that on in the end-credits instead of the corny musical again.

Kingpin and Echo will be in ECHO, so I'm glad they didn't dive into that to much. Yelena will be back as well, They never diverted the attention away from Hawkeye and Bishop. People like crossovers in these but then get frustrated that they aren't a bigger story. I know that Coulson only had a walking the room part in Iron Man and not huge in Thor but but after numerous crossovers we felt his importance in Avengers. We need to really start enjoying and have fun with these shows and not focus on who is in it and what are they setting up. To focused on the next show than enjoying the one we are watching. Hawkeye was the most fun to watch out of the shows thus far, and really tightened up the infinity saga, and Natasha's character. After watching Black Widow a few times, I feel like it is more Yelenas movie to move forward then Natasha, which makes it seem right that it came out after Endgame

    • @ninjanibba4259
      @ninjanibba4259 2 роки тому

I agree with everything except for that of Black Widow, yes it works best when viewing it through Yelena’s eyes, but that makes it even more frustrating cuz Natasha is the central focus and she isn’t written right and has no engagement in the story, the plot only makes it worse cuz it’s such a deep topic and it’s not even touched upon right, you’d think Natasha would feel something deeply about it…but nope
So as far as Yelena is concerned, she’s far better written here as well, there’s clear motivation and she has a chance of better character development, cuz in Black Widow she’s making jokes all of the sudden halfway through her runtime after being subjected to mind control for many years….cuz that’s how trauma works

Almost every storyline was resolved in a couple of scenes, felt like the writers ran out of time to wrap all of them up. The watch didn’t have much of a role in the end, Jack was released right away, the mom was just arrested, the Yelena problem was solved by a whistle, Kazi was done in one go, even kingpin was dealt with a bang and a shot. The good thing is that the characters are still charismatic, and there’s a potential for a great season 2.

I enjoyed Hawkeye overall, but that last episode almost gave me whiplash with the switch between comedy/high-stakes/life & death combat (Pym arrow used to great effect again, though) and hey Kingpin- oh, it's over. I think the issue with Kingpin is he's never going to be as unhinged/violent as he was in the Netflix series - this is Disney after all - so no car-door beheading for anyone this time around, but that still leaves a lot of room for Vincent D to work with his character; barely-disguised contempt, bottled-up rage & a keen intelligence working in the background of all this. Good to see him back in canon & I hope we see a lot more of him in Echo. Loved the performances all-round, and agree the LARPers should have remained in the first couple of episodes.

I really disagree with your take. The progression from the death of Armand to Ronin to Yelena made sense to me. Yes Kingpin was rushed, but the conflict with Maya wasn't with Kingpin, it was with Ronin and eventually her cousin Kazi. This show redeemed Hawkeye for me as a character, Jeremy Renner really knocked it out of the park. I loved that the tracksuits were cartoony and the LARP gang showed us how the rest of the world feels about superheroes. I was shocked that her mom was the villain, and didn't know that Kingpin would be in the show, those were really well done reveals for me. And finally the action was actually really good! IMO this was the only good MCU show. WandaVision had a bad ending, Loki was disappointing, and Falcon should have been a movie like you said. I didn't even watch What If. After a year of dislikeing everything the MCU has put out, both Spider-Man and Hawkeye have shown me they can still pull off good storytelling. Episodes 1-2 are setting up Clint’s impact on others as Hawkeye & Ronin…he’s famous & infamous. Episodes 3-4 setup how his choices impacted others…Maya & Nat. While episodes 5-6 closed the loop to show that he accepted what he’s done and is looking to make amends…again Maya & Nat/Yalena. Kingpin is the mcguffin setting up a larger universe as these shows do at the end.
All in its a solid journey for Clint to understand and accept what he’s done to gain closure & hand the Hawkeye name off to Kate

I agree with you on basically every point here, the whole Kingpin arc felt super rushed in especially and, as someone with no background on the character, that meant he didn't have any of the gravitas which I presume he should.
Really enjoyed the character interactions between our trio but even our Jelena conclusion felt kind of forced, restricted to the one short scene we got.
I have to say that Jack was probably the standout character of the show for me though, I wasn't sure if he was actually involved or not up until the 5th episode (unlike Elanor who I figured was the culprit very early) and the whole fun-loving, slightly out of touch, aristocrat that just wanted to stab some bad guys really worked for me along with him have 2 of the best lines in the show.

If I personally ranked the Disney+ Marvel series this year, here's my what I would say (from least favorite to favorite):
(Note: I personally enjoyed all but one of these shows, so even if I'm a little harsh on them at times, I still loved 4 out of the 5. Also, spoilers for all ahead)
    5. What If?: This show had some stand-out episodes, but I a lot of it felt weak to me personally. They didn't go all out on the weird promises that the trailer for the show and the comics it's based on give me, and some of the writing in some episodes felt weak too.
    4. Falcon and the Winter Soldier: I thought that this show did a great job with Sam, Bucky, and Zemo for the whole show, and did a good job with John Walker for the first 5 episodes. However, the villains were pretty weak and the redemption of Walker in the final episode was unearned in my opinion. I thought they did a pretty good job at tackling the themes of race, but that one great aspect doesn't fully outdo the Flagsmashers and Sharon Carter. I still enjoyed it though.
    3. Loki: I loved the sci-fi wacky vibe of the show, and pretty much everything about Loki, Mobius, Sylvie, and the Loki variants worked for me. In fact, my only major issue is that the final episode (which I still enjoyed) felt less like a natural continuation of Loki's arc in the show and more of a set-up for Kang. I think they could've done both, yet failed to in this case.
    2. Hawkeye: At this point, the difference between #1 and #2 is solely personal preference. Hawkeye for me was amazing. Great character interactions, a fun plot to follow along with, and comedy that always landed. I have no major issues with the show, but for me nothing so far has beaten out...
    1. WandaVision: This show was stunning. It means a lot to me personally, and it turned a character I didn't care about into my favorite MCU character so far. The writing was great for most every aspect, and despite the fact that it does have some flaws, those to me are minor and don't overshadow the amazing writing the show provides. Episode 8 is the most heart-breaking and emotional stuff the MCU has ever made.

The tracksuit mafia bits felt like rejects from the show Barry. I liked the idea of having just some mooks -- some true comic book goons -- around to fill in the nooks and crannies, so to speak, but they went a bit overboard with the humour -- well, the attempted humour. And Rogers: The Musical was gloriously high on the Hunched Scale.

I mostly agree, but I'm actually slightly below you on it. I thought it was kind of shaky rather than solid. I enjoyed parts, especially the interactions between Hawkeye and Kate Bishop, but totally agree the Tracksuit Mafia was lame. I thought it could have been a lot better if they cut the Yelena storyline from the first season and spent the whole season 2 working through that to give it more weight. It was a decent show, but I probably won't watch another season unless I hear great things.

The tracksuit mafia was a carry over from the very successful Hawkeye series from Matt Fraction.
As for Fisk's relationship to them, he's not a micro-manager, he just wants results. I'll infer that for the most part (up until e6) he's been content with their results.

I liked Loki best, but this was a very close second. The only thing that I did not like was that Jack was not fleshed out more. They made him a plot device rather than a character, which was a waste of Tony Dalton's talent (though to his credit, he did a great job with what he was given). What I particularly liked was how Jeremy Renner really sold the tired Superhero just wanting to be done, and Hailee Steinfeld totally creating the impatient eager beaver learning the ropes and taking her lumps.

I really wanted to like Hawkeye but it felt underwhelming.
    1. Why bring in Kingpin if he was going to be written like that. Seemed like a cartoony buffoon villian instead the smart, physical, ruthless threat.
    2. Kate's character didnt work for me. I didnt see her grow or learn from her mistakes enough to believe she should be on close to even playing field as Yelena or Kingpin. Her character could of really done with some failure to learn and grow but we didnt get that at all.
    3. Tracksuit buffoons was exactly my thought too dan! Especially when so many came out of nowhere in that finale!!!!
    5. Larpers went too overboad. I dont mind them helping but putting the costumes on? Come on.

I liked Hawkeye better than Loki solely because Loki's finale fell apart for me, but I don't know that this finale was really that great either. A lot of threads came rushing back and I didn't think Maya's storyline got proper payoff for how much they set it up. I especially didn't like that the writers seemingly didn't think that the LARPers should have acted like firefighters and cops during their moment, despite it being made clear that most of them were just that. What better way to let these "pretend" heroes feel like heroes than for them to become first responders to an active shooting? It was kind of messy

It is important to point out that almost all the issues you raised at the end of the video were caused by Covid. For example, in Falcon, they had to removed the plot related to the release of a bioweapon; many actors in Wanda Vision and Hawkeye were unable to come back on set to film additional scenes; in Hawkeye, Charlie Cox (DD) was supposed to have filmed a cameo, but he was unavailable. The original end credit in Hawkeye was supposed to be Kingpin, but was removed at the last minute (in order to increase the suspense about surviving being shot - although we all know he has survived).

It feels like the goal of the MCU TV shows is to play it safe and to move characters around to where they need to be so it makes sense when/if they show up in movies, Wandavision got Wanda in place for Dr. Strange 2, Falcon and the Winter Soldier set up the next Captain America movie, Loki revealed Kang and the multiverse (a big moment for Spider-man), Hawkeye set up Kate Bishop and the return of Kingpin (no way he died at the end). What If is the only one that sort of feels like its own self contained series that had no impact on the MCU, just told some neat stories that tied themselves together at the end.

The tone of this show was all over the place. It doesn’t know what it wants to be. Mixing the grim undertone of Echo-Kazi-Kingpin from the darker world of Daredevil with the lighthearted Home Alone Christmas shenanigans with Clint and Kate vs the Tracksuit Gang, before switching to the somber tone of Ronin and Black Widow subplots. There is a bit of Die Hard sprinkled in there and jokey Jack red herring who feels like he is in a Princess Bride sequel. I think the best part of the show was the Rogers the Musical scene at the end. This show should be called ‘The Bishop & The Hawk’.
