    The reason why I love her and her recipes is because she teaches you basic kitchen etiquettes as well. Things such as washing your hands thoroughly, washing your cutting board after using it, washing your vegetables and meat etc. This is what makes me appreciate her channel and follow her recipes religiously. I don’t usually get all the required Korean supplies as I’m from a small town. However, I do love cooking her recipes if I have all the required items.

      I know that she often will tell you things that you can substitute for some of the ingredients. You might also be able to buy some things online (her website has Amazon links for some ingredients, actually). I know small towns make finding things hard, though!

    Thank you so much for your nice comments and messages. All of you are awesome! I finished English and Korean caption for you. Check out the captions. 영어, 한국어자막 올렸어요.
    Unfortunately you can't submit captions anymore because UA-cam has ended the community captions feature. The feature allowed viewers to submit translations of the English captions of my videos in other languages. So from now on there will be no more new caption translations from my viewers on my videos. The ones already made will stay on my videos.
    Over the years I have loved and appreciated all the translated captions made by you guys. So many wonderful and talented people submitted their time and knowledge to translate the captions, and I was always amazed and touched to see their great work. They did it as volunteers, because they wanted to share their passions with others, that's the only reason they did it. I got to know some of the regular translators through email, and we became friends.
    UA-cam has brought so many great things to my life, and most especially all of you. I'm sad that the captions are ending, but I understand why they need to do it. UA-cam offered me to join another service for community captions but it's not suitable for me at all and not what my community needs, so I'll continue doing English and Korean captions myself, like always, and wait for UA-cam to make a better solution.
    I want to give a big thanks to everyone who helped in translating and captioning my videos, even if it was just one word! I'm a big fan of all of you, forever.

      I am lucky to be able to understand without the need of captions and it is indeed a blessing. However, maybe you can receive the captions from the community by email or some other form and you will be able to upload it yourself afterwards?\
      I understand it maybe more work but it could work until youtube fixes this issue.

    When I moved to Daejeon, the first thing all my coworkers did was take me for dakgalbi. SO SPICY. I nearly died. And was addicted right away. I’ve introduced my husband to your other dalgalbi recipe and it’s as good as any restaurant I went to in Korea. We can’t wait to try this one! He’s gone to the grocery store right now! ^_^

    I remember wathcing your orginal Dakgalbi, which was the first video I ever from you when I was 13, now I'm 20 at University! Time flies! I still watch every single new video you post and have done it for years! I hope you keep posting as I enjoy your videos!

    this dish was one of the most memorable dishes that i ate in korea when i travelled there as a child. years later i ate it again in toronto. i have a suspicion that my cousin took me to the same restaurant in the basement that @Maangchi described in the video because on my second visit back to toronto in 2014 it was gone... i was super sad about it at the time. anyways I made it tonight according to your recipe and it was fantastic. thank you maangchi

      @@Maangchi it was already gone in 2014 when i went back...my cousin who took me to Joon's miss the taste of their dak galbi so she is going to try to make your recipe, too

      Joons was one of my favourite places too. I would always get the steamed dumplings and dak galbi. A Korean restaurant (Hancook Cheese Dakgalbi) was opened in the same spot and they also serve dak galbi. It's similar but not the same and I honestly don't know where else in Toronto you can find dak galbi 😅

    I lived in London i just wake up this morning today trying to search on this recipe when i came home after work and try to do your Dakgalbi recipe now you update your new recipe more easier and yummy thank you for sharing your yummy recipe i used to live in Korea in year 2000and i used to eat this all the time...Take care...

    I just tried this recipe last night. It was so good! I had to make one or two (minor) substitutions & I decreased the spice a little, but it was still great. Even my brother, who loves spicy food & calls my usual experiments ‘OK’ thought it was great. Can’t wait to try French fry hot dog next.

    fun fact) dakgalbi is a soul food for Korean who lives in Chuncheon, Gangwondo.
    There was not much pork and beef and were very expensive in 1950 Chuncheon. so we made galbi(marinade pork or beef) with the chiken. it was cheaper than pork and beef, easy to get the meat, cook easy and faster than the other galbi, and taste absolutely amazing. so the people also used to call dakgalbi as commoner's galbi.

    I tried a DELICIOUS Dakgalbibokumbap in Myeongdog some many years ago and at times I crave it SOOO much but no one makes it in the US! Now that I have a trusted Maangchi recipe for Dakgalbi I can mix with rice and cheese and try to recapture that deliciousness!

    The difference between your channel from others is that you give us the option to make ourselves things from Korean cuisine that is not easy to find. For example, you used rice cake in this recipe and I'll probably don't get it available next where I live. So, you gave us the opportunity to make rice cake from scratch in another video. I keep looking for things you taught and I know I won't find it easy in supermarkets in Brazil. I love it!!!😍😍😍😍😍😍😍 Brazilian fan learning Korean cuisine and culture.....

    What I really love watching Maangchi is that even if I don't always cook korean dishes, I can still use some of her cooking techniques in making local dishes. I didn't grew up liking to eat veggies but I realized it was just because many vegetables dishes I grew up with was just cooked really badly or not appetizing or flavoresome enough 😅 This chuseok I'm challenging myself to cook japchae and songpyeon with the help of my korean friends who are part of the local korean community here in my hometown.     I highly recommend this dish. Made it a few days ago with some slight adjustments because I didn't have all the ingredients on hand and it was amazing. Replaced sweet potatoes with regular potatoes, used 2 jalapenos instead of the chili peppers, and omitted the perilla leaves and carrots because I didn't have any. Making it again tonight because I've been craving it since I finished it. Great recipe and dish!

      Choose lean chicken breast and add more vegetable. This dish can be made fairly low calorie if done correctly. Actually a lot of Korean dishes can be diet friendly

    I remember that restaurant. I went once with my friend. I didn't have cash with me and we tried to pay with credit card. The owner told us to pay on our next visit. Since then, I visited them a lot of times While I was living in Toronto.

      @@e8ghtmileshigh1 yeah I get the feeling it's Hancook. My partner kept talking about the restaurant named "Joon's" from his time living in Toronto. We finally made the trip only to find Hancook in its place. We went inside anyways and he said the food was the same(I think the owners too?) It seems they just rebranded.

    That looks SO wonderful! I can almost smell it through the screen. :) My friend's grandma would make this for us when we were teens, a full sized pan would feed four of us boys after a day out doing odd jobs. I look forward to making this tonight myself. Thank you for sharing your recipe!

      They reopened a new dakgalbi place in the same spot (it’s in a basement) on Bloor called Hancook! So good! :)

      Kobi on Yonge and Steele is pretty good too.
      There is also a braised chicken place there as well called 상계 찜닭 (Sang-Gye Jjimdak) and it's one of my favourite restuarants.

    Made it, it was so good! In France we use the leftovers in the bottom of the pan by frying an omelette in it for example after fondue. Thank you for your fantastic videos.

    We are having a wonderful late cold spring day in our little town Prince Albert in South Africa and I am making Dakgalbi tonight for supper. I have made a substitution of Gojuchang and red chilli flakes for the Gochugaru as I have used mine up and the nearest Eastern Supermarket is 6 hours away. Looking forward to it, the red wine has already been decanted in preparation. Thank you Maangchi for always entertaining us.

      @@DylanLeBlanc9 I went there a few years ago! My partner mentioned loving this place when he lived in Toronto(back when it was called Joon's). I wanted to learn how to cook dak galbi because we miss their food so much. That's what landed me on this video!
