- Welcome back to KiaSS! In this episode, I finally drive one of my dream cars, the fabulous Jaguar XJ220! When it was released, the XJ220 was deemed as a bit of a disappointment - but that couldn't be further from the truth...
Huge thanks to Don Law Racing for providing the car!

I love the fact that the XJ220 looks dated, but also futuristic! Very few cars can make such a strong visual statement and remain appealing in the modern world. There are two great regrets in my life, one is not buying a Countach QV5000 when I had the chance about 20 years ago, the other is not buying an XJ220 when I had the chance, also around that same time. In fact, don't remind me of the bad decisions the younger me made...
Absolutely - it looks like the 1970's meets the 2070's, somehow.
A legend of a car no matter what. On my wall in the 90’s with a Testarossa ,959 and a Countach . What a car the XJ220 is . What a car it could of been had the finance’s allowed. Another great video .
Poster car for sure! Thanks
Thanks for taking us for a drive Jodie. Everything about this car is timeless. It will look futuristic even in 2050.
Agreed!!
Except for the tail lights!
@@MagicAyrtonforever I agree mate
@@MagicAyrtonforever are they upside down rover 2series?
Amazing cat nice to see one in HD looks amazing
This is an instant sub right here. My all time childhood dream car, that I haven't had the honor of being next to in person yet, and seeing you showcase this wonderful piece of automotive history almost brought tears to my eyes. Thank you for this.
People never say but the XJ220 won Le Mans before the organisers could find a way to disqualify it. Please make a video with one of Don's four XJR-15, that's a scary car.
Agreed! An XJR-15 would be really cool!
The 15 is such a fantastic car. I was fortunate enough to review one back in the early 2000's. Amazing piece of kit! Don has 220 LM and S specs sitting there as well! Hope she reviews EVERYTHING!!!!
A client that I did work for from 1996 to 2016 had offices that overlooked the Fox Classic Car Museum in Merlbourne. Lindsay Fox was a Jaguar fanatic in those days and I'm pretty sure that he had an XJR-15. As far as I know, he still has an XJ220. I've moved away from Melbourne, so I can't be 100% sure. Very rich man. I remember going to the Port Phillip Estate restaurant on the Mornington Peninsula for lunch one day and parking next to his Maybach.
I’d love to! What a machine
@@roadie3124 The Fox Collection is still pretty darn big, but he's always been more of a Merc man then a Jag man :)
I have always been a fan of the styling of British automobiles - clean, simple, and smooth - the 220 in blue is near the pinnical. What a beautiful car. And once again, your enthusiasnm is so sincere - another enjoyable video.
Glad you enjoyed it! The 220 is such a beautiful car - a wonderfully unique design.
Excellent, excellent episode Jodie. I love the raw, uncut, emotion and humanity you present on this channel. It just keeps getting better. I did laugh at you trying not to cuss......
Lol! Thanks Paul
This is the car that made me fall in love with Jaguar. I had a tear out of this car in the mid 1990s that I packed everywhere and looked at often. It is my absolute dream. Thank you for sharing this!!!
Loved this! Can feel the joy the car brought you!
Ohh, perhaps your best review yet! I love your passion. Never mind it isn't what it was supposed to be, look at what the XJ220 has become today! Clear to see you really are in a sweet shop!
So much so you nearly needed a beep machine. She was clearly way ahead of her time in the early 90's.
Great content, thank you so much. Makes my own humble classic pale in comparison.
What a start to the new year, Thank you Jodie, I could see you beaming with that special car.
Its so good to see a 220 in the flesh! Love your reviews Jodie, so glad you too are amazed by this incredible Jaguar.
First time I ever saw one I could not believe how good looked in person. A true classic and pioneer with aero that was ahead of its time
Absolutely! Spaceship
True. It looks even better in the flesh . I felt the same when I saw a D Type , and a Spitfire, Concorde, a golden Miura, and a black Boxer. Pics cannot capture the tactile beauty.
just watched it for the second time. Brought back a lot of memories. I am 52 but feeling 25 again. Nice one again. Thank you
Another scintillating video! Many thanks for your continuing superb series of magnificent uploads Jodie!
Another awesome episode Jodie. Informative, fun and great camera work 👍👍
Very kind Stuart, thanks!
Love this Jodie . Please keep doing this Love your style, superb visuals. Can’t wait for the next one 👍🏿🏴🌹♥️
Thanks Steve!
fantastic sound editing! first the f50 now the 220, two of my favs ever. Jodi brings the emotion, joy and excitement factor of these things to our screens as opposed to endless stats. refreshing. authentic. love it.
That’s very kind, glad you enjoyed
Seeing that rear suspension moving is so cool, excellent camera placement right there. I had the pleasure of sitting in one of these when they came out, at the shop at which my grandfather was a good customer, unforgettable memories with the man that got me into cars in the first place. This video hit home.
Ahh amazing. Thanks
What a machine ! for as old as it is it looks absolutely stunning and the sound of that raw visceral power from a bygone age must be an absolute assault on the senses ...what a car and it's a Jaguar 👌...what more can you ask for ? Your a lucky lady Jodie .
Will never forget when I first fell in love with the XJ220. I was ten years old, playing the original Test Drive Unlimited. Didn't know it at the time, but it was the highest-rated car in B-Class while simultaneously being the oldest.
Haha epic!
I still remembered you driving the XJ220 in The Classic Car Show, and I still love it. Glad to see this supercar again.
All the best to the Kidd family and crew! Canada loves you!
What a car
The XJ220 is one of the finest cars of all time and it’s also one of the most underrated cars a lot of people seem to forget it due to the fact that the great McLaren F1 came out at the same time
It’s lovely to see you fulfilling your dream Jodie keep up the great content
The XJ220 really is looking better than ever. What a great experience behind the wheel. Thank you.
It was epic. Thank you!
Another great video Jodie, just love your real feelings when driving such wonderful cars. 🙂
Many thanks 😊
I love watching and listening to, genuine car enthusiasts who are extremely good drivers review cars. And what a car, makes the miura look ugly. Especially the dark green one in the workshop, that has to be the most beautiful xj220 ever. Thanks to you and the Laws' for sharing this with us.
Legend of a car, most classics are better than the modern counterparts. You're a very lucky lady!Loving the videos 👌 Pub looks nice too 😁
That’s the Half Moon at Northchapel if I’m not mistaken. Used to visit there quite regularly.
Haha thanks!
Back in the 90's I had a 1/18th scale Mastio die cast XJ220 in this color blue. It looks absolutely gorgeous. The engine doesn't sound very good though. A V8 or the original planned V12 would have sounded much better. This was a classic case of too little, too late. I still hope to just see one some day. I'm new to this channel, and am surprised to see that a woman is getting excited about a exotic sports car. Please keep up the good work. Thanks.
Very cool. Welcome!
And in purple!!!!! This is too cool. I actually had the poster of this car (in boring silver) on my wall as a kid. I also remember not being able to comprehend the price. What a wonderful machine and design, absolutely love it. Great video by the way
Great! Love that you showcase the sound of the car as well and reviewing the car without having to use music! Keep it up!
Thank you xx
My favourite car of all time. You've done a wonderful thing with this film Jodie, thank you 👍
Very kind! Thanks
I went to the 25th anniversary of the XJ220 in 2017 at Silverstone Classic and saw and recorded on video loads of these fantastic cars. Tiff Needell also had the opportunity to drive one of these cars around the circuit. These should be in exclusive Ferrari prices - they are a million dollar car in my book. As Jodie said, you just don’t see them on the roads that frequently and when you do, they attract a lot of attention.
Bloody heck what a fantastic car Jodie ! Your face putting your foot in it was priceless ..enjoyment and scared all at the same time and not a puffy sleeve top in sight 🤣 , I’ve only got diesel xf but I feel even prouder now to be driving a Jaguar thanks 🙏👍
Another great video Jodie your knowledge of cars is out of this world .and your passion please please keep these great videos coming
☺️☺️🙌🏼
What a beast of a car. An unusual design and I have never got my head around those wheels personally. Thanks for another great video 👍
Unusual for sure but it works! Thank you for watching
The wheels are part of the aerodynamics to get to the 200mph+. I have seen several with different wheels.
This car is still on my “if I win the lottery” list. For Jaguar to have the balls to build it, all be it in a vastly different spec than was initially promised takes some doing. Good to see that they are being recognised as the awesome machine that always were. Great video 👍👍
Thank you Stefan! Definitely a bucket list car for me
Either this or a f40
That has always been my dream car ever since seen it on tv/ magazines. I have seen a few of them but I would just love to even have a ride in one once in my life. Brilliant video.
Thanks for the great videos Jodie, loving your channel.
Got lots of friends involved in making that car. My friend worked in the stores at the MG factory and remembers Tom walkinshaw turning up in his transit van to pick up the left over engine blocks from the 6R4 for the car. Also my good friend machined all the engine blocks at TWR.
Cool!
The best looking car of all time(from the front and side!).Jodie’s enthusiasm is so genuine almost makes you feel like you’re sat next to her. Brilliant review as always!
What did you find brilliant about the review?
Other than her feelings about acceleration and how the car looks… we know nothing of its handling or of how the controls feel or any other details or nuance?
As far as I’m concerned her worst review.
@@claudiomarangone614 I beg to differ claudio but we are all welcome to an opinion.
@@wingcommanderdaltonwalton67 How do you differ?
Mind you I do find her enthusiasm infectious, however if she’s going to broaden her base or even maintain her base for her true enthusiasts and add more credibility, she needs to add more information many crave… hence why we go to these channels.
Glad you enjoyed the video,
I did for what it was.
Just lacking…
@@claudiomarangone614 . I’m not denying that there are probably more informative reviews but you I just loved the genuine feelings of appreciation and adrenaline induced excitement. I can’t remember if “Harry’s Garage “ has done a review but I’m sure “Jay Emm” has. They usually do more in-depth reviews. It would be a boring world if we all liked the same things eh? I sincerely hope you find a review your looking for.I’m still surprised how gorgeous that car is every time I see it. Thanks for your reply.👍🏻
And nothing disappointing in the video either, thank you for bringing this to your channel, your enthusiasm is incredible, what a sound 🏁🏁
Pleased to hear it Jim!
You lucky, lucky lady !!
Also thank you for a channel that has fast become "number 1" in my go-to list
This is why I love this channel. Jodi is a real car nerd and loves fast cars. She is also a really good driver. This is a car that needs to be driven, and she seems to have managed that. Kudos to the owners for letting her loose with a real unicorn. Not only the first off the line, but Tom Walkinshaw's own car! The best thing is that she got that V6 to sing. It is such a unique sound. I once got to be in the pits at Brands Hatch when a pair of these were out practising for a veterans race. Lots of V8, V12s and various flat 6 and 12 cylinders. They all made glorious noises, but when the Jags when past they where quite distinctive. I lovely video. Thank you Jodi.
I'm lucky enough to see quite a few of these in Staffordshire and they're always gorgeous. Timeless design that screams speed
Very lucky! Effortlessly beautiful
@@KiddinaSweetShop in fairness it seemed to have a strong effect on you. Sometimes it's ok to meet your heroes
Another great video, love your enthusiasm Jodie! Such an impressive car, still looks amazing today.
Thank you!!
I was at the International Auto Show at the NEC in1988. The XJ220 was the hit of the show, the crowds to see it were huge. A week after the auto show I visited Jaguar for a tour and sitting there as you entered was the 220. Here I am standing 10 ft away from this beautiful machine, great memory. Dana, Canada.
Amazing! What an incredible launch x
I think I'm correct in saying the V6 engine started life as naturally aspirated and found in the back of the MG Metro 6R4 before being developed for the Jaguar.
I've always loved the XJ220.
Remember seeing one a fairly regular basis on the A1 near Newcastle
Need another video of the Don Law workshop, include a test drive in the "Transit" 😊😎
I think that is correct, and when Group B finished before it's time I think TWR got the rights to continue with the engine.
The Transit... well spotted 😉
The sound that car makes is just pure filth. Wonderful video as ever Jodie, really enjoying the content :)
Actually no it doesn't sound that good. It's your imagination.
it could be described as filthy. not necessarily good to everyone. very turbo-y. the sound of a v12 would have been something else though.
Another great video Jodie! I remember seeing that very car being driven by Tom Walkinshaw when he owned Gloucester Rugby club. I heard it first from a mile away ! 😀
Thanks for the fun, Jodie. Just love the sound of the exhaust on the overrun. V6 engines always sound so good.
So good!
Epic car, sadly like with others that are ahead of their time, failed when launched but now loved and very hard to get hold of. Slightly different, but the Ducati Sport Classic is another. Failed and jumped the retro trend by about 5 years, but now can’t get one for love nor money. Had no idea you had a pub off the A272, have to swing by for a lunch on a Sunday ride out come spring.
You’d be more than welcome
I remember seeing one of these cordoned off in a Jaguar dealership waiting delivery with a procession of people driving up to see it. If I remember correctly they were about £400k at the time which was very expensive for the day. I have to say I think it has aged really well. There is an interesting story of one being bricked up in a room within a business to avoid the liquidators after the company went bust.
Phil me too, my dad was lucky enough to have bought an xjr, we were invited to the show room to pick it up (I was about 8) and there it was roped off in the corner, I will never forget seeing it. made my dad's new car look a bit crap lol
@@harrymcglade7422 your dad would be very proud of you
I thought at the time they were about £180,000 but I am not sure if I am remembering correctly.
I looked it up and the were suppose to sell for £470,000 but ended up selling for £127000 probably because no body bought them.
@@bighands69 here's the as to why nobody bought them from my September 1995 issue of road and track magazine: there was a court case pitting 25 of the original contract holders (2 buy a xj220) against jaguar on the basis that the $600,000 supercar had not been made with a V-12 as promised. The show car prototype had the V-12 and the 25 prospective buyers were going off that and deposited £50,000 deposit in 1990 to have a xj220 build for them. But they did not have the tire technology at the time to support that much horsepower/weight of the V-12/220mph speed combined and thus why it used the group B rally car metro 6R4 V-6. In the end The court decision was that
Each of the 25 had to pay jaguar £100,000 to get out of
NOT buying a jaguar. Because of this, they had 78 xj220's in secret storage area
Under 24hr security at one of jaguars factories and a jaguar executive was assigned to mingle with the rich to sell off the then year old but still brand new xj220's. Jaguar should of been told the story of the 1948 tucker torpedo while screwing the xj220 prototype together. Witch had a similar situation. Never sell the car until you have it figured out.
the BEST youtube car channel! love this car, it won my first ever game of top trumps for me in the mid 90s. love this car!
Thanks so much! Dream car x
Oh my, I had no Idea you had a YT channel Jodie, I always knew you were into cars and this is awesome to see this. The Jag was such a flawed car but my god it is beautiful. I remember when Martin Brundle mentioned that they hit 217 at the Nardo test track, on an arrow straight the car would have hit 222mph. I wish I picked one of these up 11 years ago for £119k... GOOD luck with that now.
While working as a delivery driver for UPS in the early '90s I delivered to Appleyard Jaguar in Harrogate. One morning, a large covered low-loader was blocking my usual parking spot and I went into the service department to be told that the XJ220 was being prepared for display in the workshop. With a few words to the man in charge, I was ushered into the garage and, after the keys were removed; I was allowed to sit in the driving seat. I was told that it had been sold to Elton John, but he was allowing Jaguar to tour it around it's dealerships. I also remembered that the gearbox was broken and it would only go into 1st and reverse.
Haha what a story!
'It's massive, it's so long.... it's really long, it's big, it's juicy! It's you know....' 😳🤣
Don't forget, "it's a handful" :)
It's a Jag hag!
Sometimes you have to 'grow' in a car. I didn't got the picture when it was build but the way you present it now start to make me appreciate it more and more . Never to old to learn. Thanks you
That’s great to hear Steven, thanks!
Your Pub makes a fabulous backdrop to this stunning piece of British Engineering. Keep the vids coming as enjoying everyone.
Loving this channel, such a refreshing change from the “look at the new super car I’ve bought this week”, crap. Top stuff JK 👏🏼
Yes !
The V6 engine was first found in the MG Metro 6R4 Group B rally car.
It didn't have any turbos, but it was still good for 410 hp+ at 9000 rpm.
And it made a glorious noise as well.
TWR bought the remaining engines after Group B was banned in 1986 and the rest is history.
👏🏼
Stunning stunning stunning. Would be incredible for you to have an in depth interview and look around the Don law and Justin and their amazing company with the amazing work they do. Oh and BTW the XJR 15’s in the video. OMG. Superb video 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
What a legend of a car! Luckily they had a glass roof otherwise you'd have had to have 4" removed from your neck to fit in it Jodie 😂
😂😂😂
I remember seeing one in the Jaguar Showroom at Welwyn Garden City with a price tag on the bonnet of £99,999.99 and I think it was dark blue. I was thinking hypothetically speaking, could you fit a Jaguar V12 in place of the v6? And could you also fit a 4wd system - is the tunnel there? To make the car Jaguar should have made?
A exotic car tuner should do just that. I know if I had one I'd at least want to try and fit a Jag V12.
Subbed. You drive some of the best old school stuff. The F50 vid was on point. Keep doing what you do.
Will do! Thank you
Love it
What a video
All these years later after not being a fan in loving the XJ220
Imagine being someone who took their deposit back.... That's a serious machine, I absolutely love that car.... Jodie any chance of swapping jobs for about 2 years so I can drive all those cars 🤔
To get a 1992 McLaren F1 instead? I imagine they are absolutely ebullient about it.
This video is excellent!!!! Thanks for appearing in my UA-cam feed Jodie. Keep up the great work 🥇👍🏻.
Thanks so much Dave
I love these, i was lucky enough to see a silver one at a car show when they first came out & the impression it had on me has stayed with me ever since.
This car its a legend, it's ahead off his time, it's me dream car, I never see one in mt front. Thank you jaguar, thank justin and Don law, to treat the car like he deserve. I hope one day to shake your hand, an say it you guys are the best. Greatings from portugal
Such a special car and such an underrated channel you deserve a far bigger audience always enjoy spending time with you x
Thanks for watching
I remember as a teen in the 90's this XJ220 felt like the future arrived. Great episode!
What a beautiful car.
I love Jodie's videos, Kidd in a sweet shop sums her up perfectly, her enthusiasm is infectious, she is like a giggly school kid.
Thanks so much
Great video Jodie, saw the original prototype as a child at the '88 British motorshow and the cars race in GT1 at Le Mans in '95, such a great car and deserves the coverage.
Epic. Thanks!
And still, to this day, after all these years has the best looking rear end ( in my eyes ) of any supercar. To be able to peak through those slats from behind and see it’s heart is just beautiful. It’s like a caged mythical beast that wants setting free but the 220 would be nothing without it. The sound it makes is ancient and raw. Great video.
Agreed! Thanks
So beautiful. I always loved this car. Great video Jodie thanks .
I can't remember when or where it was that i walked around one of these cars but i can remember being stunned by the looks of it , i love it . Great channel Jodie , love your enthusiasm for cars .
Thank you Monty!
Jodie, I just love your passion in your presentations,. Great job on the XJ220..👍 The nearest I ever got to an XJ220 was when I was handed a V6 XJ220 crankshaft and commissioned by the manufacturer (Hunts Crankshafts) to paint a 4 metre long 3D airbrushed picture of it on the sides of their brand new transit van. I took a load of photos of the crank on a sunny day so all the chrome journals were full of colour. and then drew out and painted a copy of it on each side of the van running diagonally from behind the front wheel to the top rear corner. .Hunts were so pleased with it, that they gave me the crankshaft to display in my office.
Epic! Glad you’re enjoying the videos
Your Top Gear hot lap and interview just came up on my feed, incredible, loads of respect to you
🙌🏼🙌🏼
I remember seeing the introduction to the XJ220 in the newspapers in the ‘90s and just drooled over the pictures. The looks, speed and the size of the tyres. Amazing,
The dream!
Thankyou Jodie for another wonderful vid, I was smiling all the way with ya ! :)
Great to hear!
I love your enthusiasm Jodie. Love it ❤️ the xj220 😚👌
What an amazing automobile! Thank you for sharing your experience with it Jodie. I am grateful.🙏⚘️
Glad you enjoyed it!
When I was a drop driver, I used to deliver parts to a place called Abbey Panels, just off from junction 3 of the M6. This factory makes prototype cars and the XJ 220 was one of them, that was before I started to deliver there but one of the staff mentioned that when the owner of the firm got the contract to build the prototype car, he sought out the reg number XJ 220 to put on his own XJ 220. In the time I was taking stuff there I was shown the X Type Jaguar in pre production and thought how it had a look of the Sovereign, the prototype had an oval rear window that wasn't carried into production, they were also experimenting with alloy panels but they kept splitting on some curved areas. As a confirmed classic car owner and nut, I find these films really rewarding, thanks Jodie.
Haha fab. Thanks for watching!
Awesome car. Driving it can never be boring ! Thanks for the vid!
What a wonderful thing to have that car for a weekend. Well done. I love your pub too. It looks old and welcoming. I used to visit Kim Tickell's pub (good food and company, but a bit strange at times) when I was at university and many others around the Esher and Claygate areas. I'm getting a nostalgia feeling 😀 We don't have pubs like that in Australia.
PS. When I was a teenager at school in England, we had a thing going that we wanted to meet a beautiful girl who's father owned a pub. That's changed. The idea of perfection now is a beautiful woman who owns her own pub and who loves cars. I'm probably in big trouble.
I saw one about 2 years ago pulling into a local industrial estate. My jaw dropped. I forgot how beautiful they are. 😍😍
Back then..."Can I have my deposit back?"...Now.... Dohhhhhhhh :-(( I think I would smile because I saw Jodie Kidd!!! It is a Wonderful car... Just came out at the wrong time.... Great video Jodie, well presented..... :-)))) xxxxx
One of my friends worked at a Jaguar dealership here in Vancouver, Jaguar brought one of the XJ220s over for a car show here, thanks to my friend my very young son and I got to see the car without fighting the crowds. Wow to get to drive it Lucky You! Keep these great videos coming. Thanks Jodie 😀👍🇨🇦
Thanks Alan, glad you enjoyed. Such a special car
Absolutely lovely Jodie!
It's such a pity in some ways of the reception of this magnificent car. As Evo journalist David Vivian (Wiki on XJ 220) wrote in 2009 the decision to change the V12 engine for a turbocharged V6 engine "would garner more acceptance now".
As usual Jodie, I am so jealous.
Best Greetings from Sweden.
What a perfect day for you in a marvelous car on lovely roads! As it turned out that twin turbo 6 cylinder engine was just right. 👍👏
Absolutely amazing 😍 such a beautiful car and it always will be!
I feel so lucky to have randomly seen one on the road in Sydney!
We really, REALLY need to see you take an XJR15 for a drive please 😇
Wow! That would be fun…
Jodie the noise of that jaguar engine with the twin turbos is what all super cars should sound like great video cheers jj
Amazing just amazing love you! And I love that car you just get better and better keep up the amazing work I always look forward to your next video!
Your obviously beautiful and amazing Jodie keep up the excellent work! Love it 👍
Me too…I’ve been staring at the XJ220 as well. My favourite of all the super cars. I’ve been collecting them ever since. I’ve seen the v12 one and the first road version. This one was used as a Grampian Police promotion car. Maisto made 1/12 scale versions. I have one in each colour. Having one for the weekend must have been a dream come true. Waking up and seeing that sat on the driveway…you lucky girl. So so envious.
It was a very special day. Makes me want one a whole lot more!
That's a funny looking Metro 6R4!
Just joshing!
Once again, a wonderfully enthusiastic and knowledgeable video. Thank you Jodie (and the Laws).
Lol thanks
How this channel doesn't have a million followers is a mystery to me....Thanks for the virtual ride in this iconic Jaguar.
Great video Jodie, wonderful motor, saw these babies racing at Le Mans 94 and 95, loved them ever since, thanks for that😀
Epic!
Soo enjoyed this video…I can’t even tell you. Your enthusiasm says enough for me. Definitely my hero. Epic.
Pleased to hear it Jonathan 😇 thank you.
It’s not an easy drive I’m not speeding Jodie you did us proud with this brilliant video what a car 😍😍🇬🇧🇬🇧
