I did winter guard for 8 years. Then an injury and surgeries forced me out of it. I randomly found this video and it truly made me cry...out of happiness. Happiness that someone could describe winter guard so perfectly. And that someone could make me fall in love with the sport all over again.
Such a wonderfully done video! We love all of the collaboration and inspiration that has been shared between the worlds of dance, baton twirling, and guard over the years. Can't wait to see some of the new winter guard shows this season!
Winter Guard can Be Expressed in many ways. It's Equipment, Flags, Tossing, Catching, Themes, Creativity, Flags, Dance, Different and Tons Of Genres. I think that EveryGuard Show Has A story behind it. You just have to know what It Is. It's Truley Amazing and Phenomenal. Im A Junior In Guard, and i've been doing it ever since 7th grade!!
So wonderful! This was my LIFE for 15 years. I miss my Stoneman Douglas and Drum Corps days so much. For those marching now take all the bad, bloody and ugly and push yourself to be something wonderful. Thank you for this video. xoxo
LIKE THIS!!! Beautiful! Makes me wanna train & perform again... Once a colorguard, always a colorguard! :) The editing & the music scoring is so harmonious. I'll keep this in my iPod!
2 Seasons of Winterguard. 1 season of Fallguard. Starting my next season of Fallguard this year for 10th grade. From Flag, to Flag, to Rifle, and back to Flag this upcoming Fall season. Love this more than ANYTHING!
This gives me even more of a push to start a winter guard here at my college! I never have wanted to push some thing I love so much into an idea! Thank you for uploading this! I know with help and the right resources I can find other people who would be just as willing as I am to have this at my school. Thank you again!
This is a FANTASTIC video! I was participating in Winterguard/Colorguard over 20 years ago and I remember all our performances like it was yesterday. I got teary as I watched these beautiful performances. Thank you for creating this!!! :o)
Winterguard is amazing and I miss it so much. I can't wait to go back in January. This video literally makes me emotional because of all of the good memories I have with all of my friends. Thank you.
I always cared about just the indoor drumline part of WGI , but dang, this vid makes me wanna watch these shows now, they do some hard stuff! Lots of talent I should appreciate more.. great vid!
I am a 7th grader and joined my high school's colorguard last season, and have never been in winterguard season before. My instructor told everyone where they
wow oh my gosh this video has motivated me to try harder and perfect my tosses. it looks really exciting to perform! can't wait till i get to perform :)
Wild that this video was 10 years ago. Find myself coming back to it to reference as I create a modern day version of this with a company, Webflow. Much love. 🖤
this is so beautiful!! thank you for making this video to use as a recruitment video. I will use this next year for anyone thinking about joining guard :)
This is gorgeous! I want to make something like this someday. I made something sort of like this, but for my high school's winter guard. For their orientation. It wasn't much, but the coach liked it. I love this though! I really wish I had some winter guard shows like this to use to make something like this.
I'm sooooooooooo excited!!!! I'm joining Winterguard this year. I'm only in 8th grade, but my the high school I'm going to be in next year is looking for 8th graders. I really can't wait! I signed up yeasterday, and I really wish the tryouts would come soon. I know I will never be as good as these people, but we can still try :D
I absolutely love this video just wondering why there was no video of The San Jose Raiders. The Raiders had won six Winter Guard International (WGI) World Titles (1990, 1991, 1992, 1993, 1994, 2003).
@fpenansky The paint flinging show was a high school from new york called Bishop Kearney. I think it was 1996 and the show was about the famous painter named Jackson Pollack
it's never too late, but it just takes lots of time to learn how to do the tosses. it's not exactly like dance, it doesn't come natural. you really have to spend a lot of time learning and perfecting.
true... since i left highschool, the last time i performed was few years ago for alumni show. Now the technique is very advanced. And of course, now I don't have as much power as I used to..also the brain works.. haha.
Hi Kevin, I think the San Jose Raiders are great. I live in the Bay Area and would have loved to include them. The best answer I can give is that I don't have any video of them.
@fresnotony in one shot it said World Championships, do you know where those were located? my school's varsity Winter Guard team goes to Dayton, Ohio for Championships every year, last year we were 18th out of 300 guards.
Thank you for this. Where was this captured at? It appears that it was at one location for the most part. What was the name of the function? It is amazingly beautiful.
do u still have a link to the video of Pride of Cinncinati's show that u used! The alcatraz one! OMG i cant find it anywhere and i have been wanting to see of for such a long time!
Please, The one with the fellows in the "cell". What is it? I saw them in Phoenix world championships around 1995. Their show was about Alcatraz. Oh please, say you know this show, I have been looking for that work for so long. Please tell me who this is.
I am a guard coach and would love to show this at my recruiting that I am doing at the jr high dance classes next week. Is there anyway you can email this? The school doesn't have updated things like Apple TV to download it from the internet, so I have to do it the old fashion way and burn it to a DVD and play it in the dvd player. Is this a possibility?
is it bad that i joined in 10th grade? Im in 10th grade right now and were doing fall gaurd/with the marching band right now. It seems like most of you started in 9th or 8th.
+Tori Hoover Throughout the history of this activity, the two spellings have been used interchangeably. Feel free to check out WGI's website, where they explain the history of this activity (And use the sabER spelling) Happy New Year!
Thank you for this video! Everytime someone asks me what i do, I pull this video up and smile, because what we do is simply beautiful.
I did winter guard for 8 years. Then an injury and surgeries forced me out of it. I randomly found this video and it truly made me cry...out of happiness. Happiness that someone could describe winter guard so perfectly. And that someone could make me fall in love with the sport all over again.
I was in the Colorguard and our instructors never said what the Winterguard actually was.. Thanks for this!
Such a wonderfully done video! We love all of the collaboration and inspiration that has been shared between the worlds of dance, baton twirling, and guard over the years. Can't wait to see some of the new winter guard shows this season!

My winter guard instructor was in Bishop Kearney! (The first guard shown for rifles and the guard throwing paint)

This is great video. Plus if you ever have a hard time explaining what guard is to your friends, just show them this video.
I am a 7th grader and joined my high school's colorguard last season, and have never been in winterguard season before. My instructor told everyone where they
@1baksunrise Looks like Winterguard International World Competition, held in Dayton, Ohio for the past several years. It IS amazingly beautiful.
This video is always such a useful recruitement tool as an instructor
THis is a beautifully made video. What a good choice of song. I know what winter guard is now :)
wow oh my gosh this video has motivated me to try harder and perfect my tosses. it looks really exciting to perform! can't wait till i get to perform :)
This video has some of my favorite show! :)
Wild that this video was 10 years ago. Find myself coming back to it to reference as I create a modern day version of this with a company, Webflow. Much love. 🖤
Thank You. I enjoy your Instagram videos!

THIS IS FANTASTIC!!!!!!!!!!!
Amazing! :) This is my first year in color guard and so far its amazing, this is a great video about guard. Color guardians are amazing!
I started in 7th grade, and I promise you'll love that you started early. You'll be phenomenal if you work at it all through high school:)
This is awesssssome
I'm sooooooooooo excited!!!! I'm joining Winterguard this year. I'm only in 8th grade, but my the high school I'm going to be in next year is looking for 8th graders. I really can't wait! I signed up yeasterday, and I really wish the tryouts would come soon. I know I will never be as good as these people, but we can still try :D
absolutely amazing
this is a very nice video...I think it needs the addition of "drama" though too. As in theatrics. I have seen many a show that are like mini plays.
Ha, somebody has the WGI fan favorite collection from the late 90s--I recognize a bunch of these clips from my version of that!
wow, just amazing!
beautiful! :) i love winterguard
I absolutely love this video just wondering why there was no video of The San Jose Raiders. The Raiders had won six Winter Guard International (WGI) World Titles (1990, 1991, 1992, 1993, 1994, 2003).
everytime i start this video i have to finish it.. its amazing! im glad that i do colorguard :)
@fpenansky The paint flinging show was a high school from new york called Bishop Kearney. I think it was 1996 and the show was about the famous painter named Jackson Pollack
I love love love my guard and I've been doing it for two years now I plan on doing it for a very long time
Winter guard is.. AWESOME!
it's never too late, but it just takes lots of time to learn how to do the tosses. it's not exactly like dance, it doesn't come natural. you really have to spend a lot of time learning and perfecting.
winter guard is love
I love to show my friends what I do...and I just show them these videos because there completely true!
My instructors are in there too!! Go Corona ;3
true... since i left highschool, the last time i performed was few years ago for alumni show. Now the technique is very advanced. And of course, now I don't have as much power as I used to..also the brain works.. haha.
When I see this...I see the future
Wow, that was epic!
This is... amazing.
I actually think it was about 94 or 95, because I remember I was still in high school at the time. Amazing show, though.
That was amazing :D
Now when everyone asks what is winter guard I can just email this
I started Winter Guard in 10th, and marching guard in 11th. Its not bad at all!
Hi Kevin, I think the San Jose Raiders are great. I live in the Bay Area and would have loved to include them. The best answer I can give is that I don't have any video of them.
Man I wish BD still had a world guard!!!!!!!!!
@fresnotony
in one shot it said World Championships, do you know where those were located? my school's varsity Winter Guard team goes to Dayton, Ohio for Championships every year, last year we were 18th out of 300 guards.
what the song used during the video i really like it
@aliciawhipkey15
I just added them to the description.
I really want to use this video to recruiter people for my fall guard!!!! is there a way i can make it into a DVD!!!!!
I joined in 7th grade... Can you do one on indoor guard?
Thank you for this. Where was this captured at? It appears that it was at one location for the most part. What was the name of the function? It is amazingly beautiful.
Pride of Cincinatti. Check the video description..
do u still have a link to the video of Pride of Cinncinati's show that u used! The alcatraz one! OMG i cant find it anywhere and i have been wanting to see of for such a long time!
Very good! But, you forgot the most important one ACTING!
Body & dance in my opinion, you can teach equipment but if they haven't got natural dance ability thats way harder to teach....
BTW I love the video!!!!
Where can I find a video/what school or year was the guard at 1:01?
Nevermind. Saw description and know its Centergrove - just trying to find a video now.
This makes me want to do guard! Is it too late for me to learn how to spin?
Cant watch it on my phone...
Please, The one with the fellows in the "cell". What is it? I saw them in Phoenix world championships around 1995. Their show was about Alcatraz. Oh please, say you know this show, I have been looking for that work for so long. Please tell me who this is.
What is Winterguard? Simple question. Simple Answer: Art.
When selecting for new guards member, which one should be consider first: dance/bodywork ability or equipment ability?
If the UK has Winterguard then do they have Marching Bands?
about 9 people on facebook just posted this :)
Www.keepvid.com will allow you to save UA-cam videos to your hard drive :)
PRIDE OF CINCINNATI IS LIFE
yeeeeeeeeeeesssssssssssss!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
FYI , It's either way...
is it bad that i joined in 10th grade? Im in 10th grade right now and were doing fall gaurd/with the marching band right now. It seems like most of you started in 9th or 8th.
what shows did you use for this video?
and there are somethings u forgot. its a second family and its fun.
No thats ok beacuse most collages have it to
this still didnt really answer my question, great video though. but basically winter guard is like a type of ballet???
it's basically colorguard without the marching band and with a bit more dancing
that awkward moment when you spell sabre wrong
+Tori Hoover
Saber is completely acceptable alternate spelling of Sabre.
saber and sabre are said the same. Saber is used in talking about a saber tooth tiger but sabre is talking about a sword.
+Tori Hoover Throughout the history of this activity, the two spellings have been used interchangeably. Feel free to check out WGI's website, where they explain the history of this activity (And use the sabER spelling)
Happy New Year!
yesterday*
Facepalm. Sorry...Beer makes me forget to pay attention. :-)
what are you talking about? 90% of the top winterguards are from Indiana and Ohio
why has this been eradicated from the midwest
fyi
you spelt sabers wrong (its sabres!)
ok 90% might be an exaggeration.
Guard would not be the same if people were terrible actors :)
