I was surprised by the philosophical quality of the first of your videos that I watched, so I watched this one. I subscribed. In 2016 I was separated from my wife, I thought, because she cheated on me a couple of times. I realized then that I had approached the marriage all wrong. I became someone I wasn't in order to give everything she wanted. Turns out, all she wanted was the original me. Lesson learned. Then I met a woman that had also been divorced, and she reflected me back to myself in a way that made me see myself as the man I could be. Then She was diagnosed with ALS. I'd been dragging my heels on marrying her due to the past failed marriage, but as soon as we found out about the terminal diagnosis, we made a plan and were married 3 weeks later. She was a registered nurse, and she was strong. She taught me everything I needed to know to take care of her. Again I laid my life down but for the right reasons. I lost her in 2020 in the midst of the lockdowns. These past two and a half years, I've done nothing but throw out old ways of being and reassess values, ethics, and spiritual views, and I now have a life that is mine. I had to learn the hard way that I am the most important person in my life and that if I am not, everyone else suffers. I have grown in so many ways. I ride now, too; A '99 Roadstar that is such an amazing bike. Riding became a part of my healing journey and helped me break out of the state of fear that you mentioned. What you said is so spot on, man. It has been my journey almost to the letter, and my kids are better off for it. They are seeing me take back my mind, health, and stature as the kind of man I want to model for my daughter and son. At the beginning of each season, I tell them that there is a risk to riding and that I may not come back one day, but if I didn't, I was doing what I love. I don't want to live my life based on 'what if's' anymore, and I want them to learn that living is more important than not living because you're scared. Much respect, man. Keep the shiny side up. Be well.
I conformed, I overworked and still do, and did what my wife and family expected of me. Married for 35 years and never raised my voice or hand to my wife or children. I am known for being strong, both physically and within myself, honest and reliable. No one new, even my brother, I had a no fail method designed to end it all for the last 30 years. I looked at myself, I looked at my father in-law. I changed my life. When she, her lawyer, her mother and her sister finish trying to get even with me, life will get better. Ride safe, stay strong, brothers.

excellent vid. Makes one sit back and self reflect. I will admit for a godly part of my life I have been one that just wants to conform and not make my waves, while in the meantime get more and more resentful and actually ending up pushing more good people away from me rather than attracting them. always thinking it was “them”, when it was actually me. Not only is it a prison but the amount of emotional energy it takes just drains you as not only a man but as a human being. It was only through a series of seemingly tragic events that have changed my life! Thanks for this vid! And… after riding bikes since I was ten, I just bought my first Harley. ( I said I would never buy a Harley). Just love it!
Being a man is a statement that creates a whole new argument that no matter what you are what you are riding a Harley makes you a man !?? Integrity, honesty , responsibility are what come to my mind. Real men create opportunity, not sit back and wait for life to be served. Unfortunately I see a lot of men feel they deserve more, but wont do anything about it. It's refreshing to see young men set realistic goals and achieve them! Buy a Harley, LOL!
Certainly reinforces my life choices that have led to who I am, good choices have been a positive, bad choices costly in one way or another but always an education. I can hold my head high for my choices as I continue along this earthly path.
Taking responsibility for your actions. Lead by examples that will give your children strength, character and courage so they may leave their mark in the world. When deserved give loyalty to your friends and family no matter what the consequences or what others may think. Omit to your short comings and do your best to fix them. Learn to say no. Very few people enjoy their jobs. A job is something that you are paid for because otherwise you wouldn’t do it. This makes most of us to some degree slaves. Many make a prison when taking loans to buy a Harley but this gives the freedom to ride, travel etc and to enjoy the precious hours we have outside work hours. On the other hand we live in a country where we have our freedoms and privileges that people from many countries can only dream of. To keep things in perspective remember the saying ‘first world problems’.

Everything falls from that point. Taking responsibility for your own actions , not being a dick . It all can be traced back to stoicism. Even as you mention some of the current societal issues can be traced back to modern men not having a little stoicism and restraint. I agree with the other 3 you have there too. Suspect that is your methodology. Question : whats the jacket you are wearing ( or can you point me to a " what gear do I ride in " video ) ? Looking to get rid of my old one.
After watching a few of your vids on your channel, I just had to log in and subscribe. This topic is an interesting one and honestly goes far beyond riding. After all, most of us don't spend all our waking hours getting seat time. Its taking me near a lifetime to find my answers to being a man. One size (or answer) doesn't fit all. At first I thought this would be a load of macho bullshit. I was wrong. You nailed it. The only thing that is a little off the mark is making it sound like only men have these qualities. I’ve known many men and women who fit your description. So is “man” the right term? Maybe “decent human being” is a better choice. You are a force for good in the world. Keep it up.
You are correct in regard to the qualities being found in men and women. The viewers of my channel are mainly men and it's difficult to add more detail without making the video too long
I just watched 8 of your vids and wanted to share I do am surprised how I like your journey, content and aproach eventhough I am totally different person. Also followed IG. Have many questions from silly to heavy ones. Nice Work! Best
Hi, this is a tough question, unfortunately I don't have an answer to it. I suppose it is something that everyone must really decide for themselves based on the individual circumstances that they face. I guess a simple test would be to ask yourself if you are comfortable with what you do to yourself and others and could you be better.
Depends on the generation, my farther would say works 40 hrs weekly, takes care of the family and kids, he did have a yellow black v8 Holden Torana. I have a Harley 883 Iron, it doesn’t make you any better or worse than any other person, doing what you love as in a job for the betterment of others, learning and growing as things evolve. I believe in ride for therapy. Walk or Ruck for mindfulness.
A man does not make excuses for what he's done wrong, but accepts the responsibility. A man stands up against the strong to protect the weak. A man has moral courage, not just physical courage, and sticks to his core values even when the mob says otherwise. A man does not go along just to get along. A man can articulate himself without the use of profanity, respects women, and never apologizes for being a man. A man does not put others down trying to prove he's a man. Of course a real man rides a Harley, but that's just a given:)

Saying that being a man is about freedom, and being free to make you own decisions. That is in fact true, but not having a discussion with those closest to you will seem egotistical and narcistic. In today's world being a man is not about making every decision for your better good or what you think is right for your family or friend's. It is a compromise. Knowing when to lead and knowing when to follow. Not all leaders know the path. They often have to consult in those they trust most. If we always followed our own thoughts and desires, we would be no better than the cavemen we came from. Evolution at its finest, has made traditional definitions of man, obsolete. A new era, requires education and allowing those around us to grow, as we grow. Men stand up for what they believe is right, morally conflicting at times, especially due to a society in which we abide by. In most cases, a man is conflicted by what he believes is right and what he believes he must do to survive. Ultimate oppression when we feel like we are not holding up to this view in which was created of us to fulfill.
After being I’ll for an extended time I’ve lost my confidence. I have an opportunity that’s come my way and have been procrastinating over it. Fuck it, I’m in balls and all!
Good stuff, and definitely has absolutely nothing to do with a damned in-animate object, no matter what brand it is. Been a damned tough F'n 2.5 yrs for all my friend. Thank the Lord ALMIGHTY for never leaving us in our battles through it all 🙏❤️
Look in the mirror. Ive been punched in the mouth enough times to know ill get back up. I even respect many things that have punched me in the face, and learned. Find whats good, real and damnit helping another produces happiness. Thanks for making me think.
Having a HD. Don’t maketh the man. The problem is people think that. As said 40 or so years ago. 30 grand and 30 miles don’t make you a bikie. But people in a HOG chapter think they are. Enuf said
Inner strength; a man of maturity must have self control over his emotions (Prov.25:28), pursue strength and have a good conscience. The prisons are full of criminals, and streets littered with drug addicts who lack inner strength, tenacity, and godly wisdom (they act, react, and live like animals. They tend to reap destruction). Being a loving father who provides and fearlessly protects his family is the highest calling of a man (everything else is secondary). But owning a Harley doesn't make ANYBODY a man: It doesn't give you superpowers, it won't make you a better fighter (you gotta train for that), it won't increase your Testosterone levels (you might need TRT for that), it won't make your tool grow 3 inches, and it won't make you a better person: A Harley Davidson is just a man-made machine (though it can inflate your ego if you let it). I've met men who rode Hondas and punks who rode Harleys; a machine doesn't make the man; striving to be noble, strong and successful is what separates men from boys.
About the women: It is very sad that young women, starting with us in Gen X honestly, have been taught by society that there is something wrong with being women and that in order to be successful in life they need to be men. It sucks for everyone. First, I miss women. Oh, they come around but they aren't really women anymore. What remains in society are a bunch of little amateur men in skirts who try so hard to be something that it is not in their nature to be. And then there are the young men, so willing to lay down and let this happen in their lives, all while accepting the rate at which they are being feminized. Don't get me started. I am holding back from writing a novel on this subject, as a youtube comment.
Risks that don't have a worthwhile accomplishment at the end are actually pointless. There's nothing about riding a Harley that provides a risk that actually accomplishes anything. It's only a recreational activity. If you're taking on unnecessary risks doing that, you're doing it wrong... You don't have to ride a Harley to have 'freedom'. There are many bikes that can do whatever a Harley can - some even much better... In order to have 'inner awareness' you first must be reasonably well educated about the ways of the world, and the nature we live in, plus the wisdom to know what values are actually important. Owning a Harley has nothing to do with 'inner awareness'. It certainly can't provide 'inner awareness'!!! Yes, character and actual accomplishment defines a man. The ability to buy and ride a Harley doesn't come close. You CANNOT buy your manhood...!!! That's such a wrong-headed notion. If you believe that, again, you're doing it wrong...
Why do you harp on the specific brand "Harley Davidson". Spend some time watching Itchy Boots Solo Global adventures on several brands of bikes. She has bigger balls than 99% of the Harley riders that I have met and riden with. Itchy Boots has her own UA-cam channel and has been traveling the World by herself. I am almost 70 and will never understand the mistique of HD and it's indoctrinated.
id say a bicycle in the rockies would have a better chance of " turning you into a man" you'd get the exercise and maybe commun with nature. riding a harley is just part of the uniform to be " one of the boys".
@@OldNotDead-Club if cycling has replaced golf good at least now the guys with little balls are getting some real exercise. sure once you put on all the spandex and weird helmet you dont look all that manly. but neither does some 300lb dude dressed in black leather . where's he going, to the ymca?
@@davidfellows6250 lol, i actually did try to buy non colourful cycling gear once -- without company logos etc. was impossible, there is some available now.
@@OldNotDead-Club haha. i know im an asshole but in summer months i usually just wear geans ,sandals and a long sleeve button down. in winter yeah im part of the ymca crew. chaps, leather jacket ect... i dont own harley anything ( but bikes) except for a belt buckle given to me 35 years ago. im just f$%kin with people i dont care what you ride or wear while doing it two wheels is two wheels were all out there for the sanity. and illusion of freedom.

Been a damned tough F'n 2.5 yrs for all my friend.
Thank the Lord ALMIGHTY for never leaving us in our battles through it all 🙏❤️
Thanks - yes it's certainly been a tough time time for many people

Based on my swollen prostate, I'm pretty sure I'm a man.
lol, sorry to hear that
@@OldNotDead-Club Flomax is my friend.
Thanks for your comments - isn't there more to being a man than noble strong and successful?
No
Well, actually yes: a real man has to have 2 other qualities; XY chromosomes and a penis
@@arlanwade3268 LOL, that's the beauty of it - so many ways to look at it
@@arlanwade3268 lol, true
I agree I might do a video on this issue soon, thank you great insight
Harleys used to have class, and you pay for it!
Why is there no sound on this video
? There is?
It's not limited to Harley riders. I chose to ride a Victory. I believe that many of the same principles apply, but I do it on a Victory Hammer.
Thank you. They are not available here in Australia anymore.
You da man!
It’s not complex at all. A man is 1-male. 2-God honoring. 3-family loving. Beyond that is Sico babble.
I am almost 70 and will never understand the mistique of HD and it's indoctrinated.
lol
WTF does riding a HD make you a man? You can't buy character.
That's true, you can't buy character.
Absolutely not !!
lol, not what?
No motorcycle makes you man.@@OldNotDead-Club
This is rubbish. Crime caused by injustice? LOL…
id say a bicycle in the rockies would have a better chance of " turning you into a man" you'd get the exercise and maybe commun with nature. riding a harley is just part of the uniform to be " one of the boys".
lol, exercise is certainly good - but cycling has replaced golf and is now being one of the "executive boys" here in Australia anyway.
