Guys, you can't play neophytes in a group of 5. The points section has a typo. If you look at their datasheet, it's 10-20....which make more sense than 5-15 since the special weapons rule states 2 mining weapon per 10 models....
Was seeing if anyone had pointed that out yet. As soon as he said he had it in the army list I started looking.

Who's to say the datasheet isn't the typo? Until they say one way or the other, who knows? It could still make sense they don't want special weapons in a sub-10 unit. I agree it's probably 10-20, but I also thought the Space Marine Chapter Command typo giving characters cheaper upgrades was wrong, but that turned out to be the correct points.

Dude those Custodes are monsters. Two of them are just cutting swaths through those cultists. I don't play the tabletop but I like to watch the games. How cool! The Genestealer's have really nifty strategies too.
Having not checked in on 40k for years, it's so great to see, and hard to believe, they gave Genestealer cults their own army. It was such a cool bit of lore that was hidden away and underutilized.
That goes for the Custodes too, for that matter
Custodes codex should just be called, "You can't do that." You can't reroll, you can't wound on 1-3, you can't....

IMPORTANT NOTE, your blips are now reworded. Before you couldnt "End a move within 9" of them". Now it states you cant move across them either. Meaning a front line is all you need to stop anything getting past into your deployment. You dont need to zone out now

This man rolls the worst. Can almost count on him rolling the min amount especially for grenades and whe he does blow up he almost always hurts himself more than the opponent. In just about every video.

It’s mainly because the cult springs up from underground so you know where they’re coming from but you don’t know what’s in them big holes that’s going to jump out and eat you
@@Azzie420 the auspex scanners pick up a blip in the far corner.. then more start filling the screen. “I can’t see anything ahead!”. The sewer covers start sliding and shadows begin to emerge.
I love the imagery to see it on the table and the other half in my head of the fight!

Custodes are definitely much more straight forward to play from what I can tell. “Hey, we have really shiny armor that doesn’t dent. Soooo cool. Look at how shiny we are.” GSC seem like the Skaven of 40K. Has the potential to be really good, but god only knows if it’ll actually go to plan.

Sad to see they got released together when one has a very clear advantage over the other, kinda reminds me of TSons and Grey Knights release, where every game they fight each out in the Grey Knights have a very clear advantage

I feel like genecult seem better at scoring secondaries with smart play but custodes seem very strong in the primary with seizing objectives. Especially the ability to turn off obsec on enemy units and them counting as multiple models.
@@Blight02 Custodes we’re shutting off a lot of the combat tricks for GSC. Not sure if it was the subclass specifically but it was pretty brutal
@@DarkfireEquinox yeah it was a combo of the army and the cult being a pretty big issue in this matchup. Genecult can't trade equally in melee with custodes and it's a bad plan to try. Crossfire and playing the missions superbly is their thing.
@@Blight02 Just no. GSC can trade with custodes. GSC melee got insane, if you know how. The amount of 3D in GSC is insane. Give people time to read the dex and learn it.
@@Lykandras 3 damage is fine and good (Aberrants, relic claw on primus, rock cutters, and 6s to wound on patriarch), but it doesn't work that well when your opponent passes their 4++. The custodes can survive a genecult charge. The genecult cannot survive being charged by custodes. Plus you have their extremely tough characters and bikes that don't die to a single 3 damage strike getting through.
I'm not saying it's impossible to kill off a custodes squad in melee before it strikes back but you shouldn't count on it.
Crossfire synergy can help but they forgot about it in this game.
Metamorphs fight on death. Built in to the datasheet. Minor error, but it could've mattered.

@@Blight02 Exactly! If -1 dmg wasn't EVERYWHERE, flat 2dmg would have been great! But now, there's 100% risk of only doing 1 dmg, instead of having a 33% chance of doing 2.
@@kallemon I can’t count the number of times my greatest creations of the Emperor swung their mighty handmade relic weapons and did 1 damage. I’ll happily give 2 a try. Maybe they will give the Custodes a faq where their 2 damage weapons can’t be reduced or something.

I can't count the number of times I needed to roll 5/6 in order to do the thing, and the roll was a 5/6.
Get used to only dealing 1 wound. Get used to not even have the chance of 2/3 damage.

@@Ankhtowe they are a costly, elite army. Wait for a match with an oppo able to dish MWs or negate inv, and those few, elite models will melt.
@@Ankhtowe oppo is the shortened version of opponent. It's a farly common term.
That said, probably i wasn't clear. Mine wasn't an argument to negate the fact that custodes is a NPE army. They are an army with a certain set of abilities, BUT it won’t always work. Their weakness is that they are a costly, elite army, so they will be countered hard by other armies. I would like to see them against a MWs factory as TS, then we'll see.

Anyone else think that 5 acolytes/metamorphs per box is ridiculously little considering their effectiveness? Like even with 12 termagants you can get something done, but 5 acolytes???
Yes. It is arguably the best units in the codex and you want to own as many as possible. At least 3 units of 10. Perhaps smaller units as 'skill monkeys' to do seconderies. If this is a problem close to your heart I would recommend that you sand of the arms on some Neophytes. The acolytes comes with several spare arms, and they fit well on the side of sanded Neophytes. The 'old' start collecting GSC is great for this. The new patrol collection is excelent value, but there are no acolytes there. Thankfully with the new codex you are not locked into playing acolytes.
Well they're great for secondaries, flamer squads can easily get you crossfire where you need it, and metamorphs are ideal for wiping out small backfield units.
I'd say 5d6 Hand Flamer shots is still fairly useful as long as you make use of Crossfire on Exposed Targets.
Yes the $$$ for points value ratio is quite bad especially considering how essential they are.

I would recommend getting a 2nd camera and just keeping both on the tripod. The moving camera is so disorienting and takes away from what is otherwise good production.
Thought metamorph hybrids had new rule where can fight when killed if hadn't yet fought? And did the Aberrants lose the ignore wounds on a 5+?
They sorta lost it but a biophagus can give it right back.

@@demonreaver9159 aberrants are doing just fine. Extra wound, toughness, and damage reduction. Plus it isn't random chance with the biophagus anymore so if you take one you are guaranteed to get the 5+++ if you want it. Plus he can buff CORE units now.

Neophyte datasheet says unit size is 10-20. I think the points misprinted the unit size as 5-15.

I died inside when you said bike have hurricane bolters. That is the only thing in this army Has decent anti dread punch and all of their vechicles are dreadnoughts becouse"they dont know how to build" but that's fine. I want to be wrong here

they feel kinda like Blue-Green in MTG, a dozen ways to shut down your plan and ridiculous stats to punish you and let them make mistakes.

Think it's really telling how GSC is going to go just from the box-set. Custodes new model is versatile, powerful, and another must take for Custodes. Saboteur is... fine.

Metamorphs always fight in the fight phase even if they are destroyed prior to them attacking.
GW could of literally done this for they’re Warhammer+ to hype up Pre-orders. But no, they’re just replying on rules leaks.
But they gave these books to them and asked them to do this. Personally I'm happier with a bunch of people previewing it vs GW locking that behind a paywall.

@@warhammer1104 4 damage from around 15 attack is pretty sad because of -1 damage. GSC player can have a entire army +1 to hit, to wounds still cry when a custodes succeed is coinflip.
@@Maximorix Gsc have Bs 4 on the entire army with limited shootng potential and bad saving profiles across the board. If they don't kill they themselves just die! Custodies hit on 2+ and mostly wounds on 3+ with t5, 2+ saves and 4+ inv. One army can take a huge gamble to maybe do some damage and trade up in points if your lucky, while the other is just casually walking into combat and is pretty much guaranteed damage because why not right?
Looking at the custodes list I am wonderng if I am missing something I calculated the points to be 1960, I just wonder if you added a captain commander trait?

You shouldn't use flyer word. It's better to use fly keyword or aircraft. Assuming you mean unit with fly keyword answer is no unless it has special rules. Aircraft on the other hand can shoot, because it does not fall back when it moves.
What you missed was that Luka used strat to make it possible.

The stratagem Luka used ‘maneuver and fire’ allowed a unit with ‘fly’ to fall back and shoot.

So just as a point of feedback. When you were panning across the GSC army (currently watching) the camera was shuttering back and forth very quickly and it was very unpleasant to look at. I'm not sure anything can necessarily be done about it but I hadn't noticed it happening before.

Been painting warhammer for a few weeks now and looking at how to play the games.. Coming from a gaming background as in a "PC gamer" playing alot of RTS like starcraft 2 etc, this seems so... lacking. I just cant get into it. I honestly dont get the appeal? Love the look of the minatures but does anyone else feel like that ?? I guess this game isnt for everyone huh.
It certainly isn't for everyone however I personally love putting the models I worked hard on in action on the tabletop. A large part of it for me is "theater of the mind" which is a fancy way of saying that I use my imagination to fill in the lack of moving graphics and the like hahaha it also helps that I love the lore

@@davidmendez9256 Not good at all is stretching it, they're decent. Custodes have decent results, and they have been like a very "gatekeeper" army, punish non-optimal builds and badly aged books. What survivability did they lose? Going Emperor's Chosen even negates one of their weaknesses.
@@Iggyboyblue they lost all 3++, Custodes have zero 3++ where previously they could have 3/4th of their army be 3++.
They lost Adamantium and Auramite, they lost ignore psychic powers on 4+ (3+ on wardens), the -1 to hit Vexilia got heavily nerfed (although it is cheaper), grim responsibility (-1s) got nerfed and now can’t help the dreadnoughts or any vehicles. Those are looses based solely on durability and got zero durability buffs with the exception of the 4++ on mortal wounds for a single shield host.
I’m not saying they are trash, just that they are middle of the road at best when it comes to 9th edition codex
Hum, those codexs dont look fun to fight together. I could feel Matt's disappointment throughout the game. I get making Custodes tough but did GW need to give them several different ways of just shutting down the opponent's fun abilities? Going for a -1 attack chapter against a melee faction just sucks.
That ending was crushing. Sorry Matt, may want to make a rule of not matching these factions anymore.
I think Custodes should just go out of rotation. They don't seem fun at all, against anyone. Even if they lose it won't be fun batrep.
@@nemo-no-name I'd say they should at least try the codex against Orks or Dark Eldar lists. It might be more in their weight class. I think the big issue in this matchup is that the Custodes, especially the chapter Luka brought, was just such a hard counter to the GSC.
I don't think he did it on purpose, but it ruined the game.
I mean genecult are actually more shooty now and I think Matt's list was pretty mired in how genecult used to be. You don't really just straight up fight custodes and expect to wipe them and genecult melee relies on wiping out what they fight before retaliation.
Personally I would say a genecult army actually tooled up for mission secondaries look scarier than custodes.
Neophytes are 10-20 man squads, the codex is an error. Put about 5 minutes of thinking into this video…

I'm glad they're updating GSC finally, but man, fighting Imperium as a non Imperium faction looks as depressing as ever.
Where have you been the last two years? Drukhari, Orks, and Nids have been/still are the S-tier armies winning tournaments. I'll grant you that AdMech was S-tier for a while too, but the Imperium has only had 1/4 of the top tier armies in 9th edition so far.

@@Blight02 We can just wait a few weeks until that railgun comes out, tau wont probably wont win more games because of it but they will heavily skew any lists that rely on monsters.
Also, mostly FW heavy armies are doing work, pure codex nids are still sub par.
@@purestrain3099 I mean it's not even the age of the dimacharon anymore. There are certainly plenty of lists with a harridan in it now but I've actually seen a bunch of codex units get used nowadays. Custodes will still be using FW units heavily too.
Nothing in these will be all that relevant when the tau and eldar come out, they are shaping up to be seriously stupidly broken.

I enjoy MWG battle reports generally, but I just think Matt's playstyle isn't suited to GSC in this context. I think the new Codex seems great, but it isn't like marines where you can play a janky list and still do moderately well. It seems like it was designed to rely on well-done synergy and tight piloting to do well. I think GSC *definitely* have the tools to overtake Custodes, but, for example, losing that badly on primary (even with multi-model Custodes) seems indicative of not really having a plan with your GSC.
so are you saying GSC are a badly designed codex? where you are forced to play one way and never allowed to play any other witch is the definition of a bad design
@@viktorgabriel2554 I mean that isn't the "definition of bad design", but no, I don't think you are "forced to play one way". I think reviews and battle reports suggest that the Codex has a variety of playstyles but that, unlike marines, datasheets are specialists, not Swiss Army Knives.
This particular game looked like grabbing a bunch of tools from a toolbox and then looking frustrated when it was hard to tighten bolts with a hammer. For example - Matt brought both Goliath Trucks and Goliath Rockgrinders. But the unit he ran up the board was the Truck, not the Rockgrinder. He took a bunch of random shooting, but almost never used Crossfire. He put a ton of things in deep strike, but basically used none of them to score any points.
@@viktorgabriel2554 No. but it takes proper planning to built a list. Everything is viable in the codex, it is seriously amazing. But you cannot through a list together in 5mins and hope to do well. You have to tech for what you want to do. GSC is the faction for people who really want to go indeepth. The design of the codex is the best I have seen in years from GW.

Does the Custods guy know that you can choose to use stance 2 of Dactarai per unit, or not? He keeps hitting Multi-wound Infantry and vehicles with the +1 Attack 1 Damage profile, when he would often easily wipe out something if he didn't.
You can just use your normal attack profile for any unit if it makes more sense to do so... So either he hasn't read or understood the rule, (as always on MWG) or he can't do basic math.
Luka stepped in to cover last minute because I was off sick, not perfect but I think he did just fine

Forget the blatant army and ability imbalances, it was the PLAYERS.
Changing abilities selected (OOPS!), "accidently" rolling too many dice and causing to many deaths/wounds, flopping dice instead of rolling them, and expecting any "conflict" to always come out in their favor.
Thank you for reminding me, so I will not be tempted by nostalgia.

Jesus Custodes dominated this it wasn't even funny. Arcane genetic strat along with emperors auspice just shut down alot of plays it was slaughter.
Very nice painted armies and an interesting battle report...but theres just too many mistakes made here. From illegal army composition to missing rules/abilities that are almost mandatory to making confusing tactical choices. FOr a first show BatRep I would expect much better, especially for army composition, they should be checked and double checked. Most preview videos etc have rightly pointed out the min 5 typo for Neophytes yet here we have an army using them...it smacks of a poor, rushed video made to grab views and potential subs from the newly released codex hype.

MWG batreps, as always, so full of mistakes and whoopsies that you might as well watch a game of Cricket to learn about 40k. It starts even in list presentation with the Neophytes who need to be 10, and the Vexillus Praetor not being an HQ. Then Crossfire is forgotten, and so on and so forth.
It's not asked too much from you to read the rules and remember them. Other much smaller channels manage to do it just fine.
I have nothing against the occasional mistake. But i think i have never seen any batrep with fewer than 5 errors, mistakes, whoopsies and omissions. And most of the time, it really affects the outcome of the game and that's a real shame! I stopped watching because of it, but every time i give you a new chance, it takes max one minute until the first gaffe comes...
I can't speak to the Neophytes but I believe it's been pointed out to be a typo in the codex, and yes when I sent Luka the list to play for me due to illness I didn't type out all of the battlefield roles and there was an error on what the Vexillus was. I assume the cricket players would have gotten that correct.
New Custodes: Old custodes, but without the few things that made them good, facing increasingly powerful armies! Yaaaaaay! Pardon me if I'll pass.
Not saying it's a good thing that Custodes are this blisteringly OP but it is at least lore accurate.
Looks like golden boys are another zero skill level army, the longer this edition goes on sadly the more I become to dislike it
To be fair the edition is fine, much better than 8th. The problem lies in the codexes.
To be fair this guy didn't know Jack about the new gsc codex, his list was illegal and forgot tons of crucial rules
Wouldnt it be great if any time someone tells a rule or ability, we would see a reminder of what the heck theyre talking about at the side of the screen ? Or is this channel too "pro" for that ?
