I’m not your homegirl or your friend! I’m Dr. So n So, PeriodT. Put some respect on my name and use damn credentials, respectfully... We are not equals and students are not colleagues, you’re students, periodT. 🇺🇸
It depends. If you're not my professor, I could care less about your credentials, and I will call you whatever I see fit at the moment, because again, you hold no power over me, and I don't care about you or your expertise. If you're my professor, I would consider it extremely rude, unprofessional, and even unethical to call you anything other than "professor" or "doctor".
Dosen’t matter if you’re my professor or not. I will call you by your first name. Respect goes both ways if you deserve that title you do but until you prove you deserve to be respected enough to warrant that you will not be called that. If you demand to be called that than you will call me by my title as well as not by my first name. I only respect professionals who deserve to be regarded as colleagues and not just professors.
I generally feel comfortable calling professors by their first name, but if I hear other people use Doctor to address them, then I feel like it is safer to call them doctor. I went to a community college first and then transferred to a university and I noticed that people felt more comfortable using their professors first name at the community college level than at the university level. I feel like part of college is that your professors treat you more like adults and more equally to them, and I think part of that is allowing their students to use their first name.
