Getting Ready To Race | Goodwood Revival: The Golden Era Of Racing | Episode 2
Вставка
- Опубліковано 1 сер 2024
- The next stop on the road to the Goodwood Revival for James Cottingham is to get a proper, bespoke suit made from Savile Row heritage firm Henry Poole. There is no one better to get James ready than Managing Director Simon Cundey, who is also a car aficionado and a member of the Royal Automobile Club.
Everything about the Goodwood Revival is set in period. Not just the vintage racing automobiles on showcase at the Goodwood Revival is from the 1950's and 1960's, but everything. From the way in which the tickets are printed to what the spectators and race car drivers are wearing. It is, therefore, important that James be kitted out in the proper attire.
At the same time, back over at DK Engineering, final preparations are well underway on the cars that will be traveling down to Goodwood Revival. This includes the incredible Ferrari 365 Daytona that James and I will be traveling to the Revival in.
DK Engineering are vintage car restoration specialists, with a particular focus on Ferrari.
About This Series:
For years now, I have been exploring the world of quality, craftsmanship, and tradition. This journey has taken me from some of the world's most highly regarded bespoke tailoring houses, all the way to a proper shooting estate in Scotland.
I have come to believe that nobody does tradition better than the British! From dressing in the proper attire for a given occasion, through to the liturgy of the ceremonial; there is almost always an etiquette routed in tradition at its core.
In this series we explore what could arguably be one of the most exciting of the British traditions: racing.
I’ve been invited by my good friend James Cottingham, to join him as he prepares to race in the Goodwood Revival, the country’s most important vintage car racing event.
So, strap yourselves in and enjoy as we explore Britain’s golden era of racing!

I swear this guy is like the gentleman's version of literally everything even Top Gear.
@@cathydrumobich9045 I don't get it.
God Bless the internet...
Kirby's passion for his subjects is infectious, but the video production quality is simply over the top. The best that exists on UA-cam.
Thank you! We put a tremendous amount of work (and money) into both the filming and editing of our channel videos! It is a passion!
Kirby, Another great installment. Love how much of it speaks for itself with no narration. You could see the jacket was already there during the fitting - nitpick.
I could sit and watch these tailors work for hours!
🥰 With these videos, you are making me dream of another life.
I'm not a car guy, but considering this channels emphasis on craftsmanship, I really appreciate those cars even more now!
Kirby, what a beautiful experience, people actually dressing very smart in keeping with the very elegant cars .We have seen Simon a few times and each time he comes across as a very down to earth and knowledgeable gentleman.
I’ve been a few times. It’s just brilliant. You’re surrounded by well dressed petrolheads. I’ve driven there in my old Jensen but the best way is on a motorcycle to bypass the queues. Broadcast quality video. Thank you
Well done, Kirby. So enjoyable. Cheers
Really phenomenal production - seeing the collaboration with Simon and Henry Poole is next level.
Gee Kirbs, your content is expanding just beautifully 😊 What a pleasure to tour the DK world with you and experience Goodwood in a unique and historically focused way... AMAZING, hello 👋 Hames 😊😊😊😊
The Music in your videos is exquisite!!
That tweed is outstanding!
"Autumn" dear sir, AUTUMN!!
Kirby, you Are the gift that keeps on giving!👍❤
The HOLY grail of automotive.
And fun remember too that 90% of all the visitors have gone to some effort to look in period
WOOOWWW what a fabulous Tweed... 👌
This is gonna be the big time series. Well done Kirby
Watching that cutter work was mesmerizing.
It's a good series idea. Looking forward to the next episode.
Great filming and editing. Hats off!
Thank you!!
Love that little detail wearing a tie with cars and steering wheels in this costumer conservation.
Damn Kirby deserves 10x the number of subscribers he has currently.
I couldn't agree more! Make sure you like, subscribe, and SHARE!
The trick to increase subscription is to embed english close caption into the upload to UA-cam. This allows the end user to use Google Translate in what ever language they speak. Ask Life of Boris if you don't believe me.
@@cyrilhudak4568 I’ll look into that!
Haven't watched the channel in a while but this is something great to return to!
Welcome back!
Bravo. Great video as always
It’s only a matter of time before you move to the untied kingdom. You must be keeping ba in business. Can’t wait for the next slice of this series.
Great content, production and topic
Regards from Ireland
Dave
Good news is that Mr.Alex cooke is back to work ..i wish him very healthy life ❤❤😊😊
Well, actually he isn’t. This was unfortunately filmed before his health deteriorated to the point he has to retire. You can actually see the progression of ALS between the measurements and fitting.
@@kirbyallison thank you for the update. Ok keep him in my thoughts.
wow, incredible!
Thank you! This series will only get better as the episodes progress!
Amazing mr Allison 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Yet another stellar production, Kirby!
More to come!
Perhaps a quick trip to William Whiteley or Ernest Wright in Sheffield to see how a pair of those shears are made.
We've actually thought about taking a trip out there to do this. Would be a fun trip, for sure! The challenge is that with as short as my trips to London are, it is always very difficult to get outside of London proper.
My God, that is a beautiful suit!
This is a wonderful series Kirby. Can't wait to see the next episode. The production quality of the videos is top notch and worthy to be seen on a TV special.
Amazing video Kirby!!
Thankyou for this video I love seeing the old school clothing cars it's nice to see a touch of class in the clothes and the cars I do love a maunal trans mission in a car
I never forget the day when I was 5 yrs old and heard my dad say to my mom, “I will not spend $300 on a dress that I could do a better job making myself.” I remember my mother crying and thinking my dad was insane, and my dad actually being serious at the same time. Long story short. My dad measured my mother. He bought fabric. He drew and cut out a pattern. He then traced the pattern on the fabric much like the tailor and cutter do in these videos. I remember him doing several fittings with her, and he made several adjustments. When he finished my mother cried again because it was the best fitting dress she’s ever had. Mom and I said, “what in the hell just happened?” Was dad Ralph Lauren or Calvin Klein in another life or something? I called my grandmother. We told her dad was some kind of tailoring genius. She laughed and told us, “ your father had all his clothes tailored made from raw materials as a kid. He was both a tailoring and upholstery apprentice throughout his high school and college years. The dude spent 50 yrs being a CPA, but he had a love for tailoring clothes. I was absolutely amazed by this kind of talent and skill. These videos really remind me of my dad when I was a kid. Crazy stuff!
That’s an amazing story! Lol. How have you not told it before?!?
I don’t know, but out of all his amazing accomplishments throughout his career, nothing impressed me more than his ability to tailor clothing. People just don’t understand the amount of skill this takes. 😂
Yessir!
Kirby, noticed the tux on a mannequin at Poole& co. Some of us would love to see a whole series on bespoke formal wear both U.S. and U.K. please.
Great video, interesting comparison of standards and styling between the two industries. Only let down is spelling the late Stirling Moss' name incorrectly, it's with an "I" rather than an "E". Attention to detail.
This is the Kirby Allison Show. I'm campaigning for bring back Kirby as he's been demoted to a voice over 😂
For next year, can you please help Johnny Smith and Richard Porter with their wardrobe choices! I would love to see a colab with Smith & Sniff.
We need a proper "proper" counter in Kirbys vids
Where did he obtain his vest coat?
Fall sir? What is that? All those Brits living American culture.
thi guy is living in 40s in 2023
I'd like to clarify that you don't *have* to dress up in period attire for the Goodwood Revival. It's encouraged, but definitely not mandatory. I'd say about 60% of spectators don't dress up.
Funny to see people coming out all kinds of excuses to buy clothes😂😂😂 Nike will help perform better
You should go and see Goodwood for yourself.
Or it’s just maintaining tradition…
