As I'm watching this I'm realizing that your audience must be a generation younger than me (maybe even two). The connections are second nature for those of us who learned cursive at a very early age. I was probably 9 or 10 and all our school work had to be in cursive and we were actually graded on it - Penmanship class. It never occurred to me that a connection would have to be thought about in advance. Great tips for making this work, especially for those who didn't grow up using cursive. You're a truly gifted teacher with a mastery of explaining things. I'm eager to put your clearly explained directions into practice. Many thanks.
dont worry you are not the only "old" one here! :D had to wirte excersice books full of text in cursive as a first grader, for weeks long as only class, so yeah, connecting letters come naturally sort of....
I have been watching a lot of videos about calligraphy and you are the Most generous with information. You also have a talent for explaining things. You seemed to really understand the gap between being new or intermediate and being a master. Thanks for being so thoughtful. It is clear that you are passionate about what you do. You want others to succeed.
Oh you are brilliant Becca! "Brilliant Becca" that's what I'm going to call you from now on. I'm soooo pleased that I'm not the only one who doesn't connect the "r". Thank you for confirming that it's ok 🙌😊🙏❤️
YES!! I must say that this video is really really informative and captivating !! It encouraged me to RESTART my forgotten calligraphy and helped me a lot. Thank you, Ms. Becca !!
I like the twist to some letters like w, v or o, with the little loops! I think they're prettier, and they also make more sense to me as in France we learn to write with cursive! Great tutorial as always Becca!
I agree with Jeani Miner. When I was growing up Mom required that I learn cursive even before classes at school. Penmanship was very important to her. Fast forward 50 years and I watched my grandson barely scribble out a printed name. I began looking for the tools to teach him calligraphy and he really took to it. Now that he’s 22 I need to share these videos with him. I’m sure he’ll enjoy them as much as I do.
My first and last name have these letters and I have been struggling to connect them all my life especially since I started pointed pen calligraphy, this video just fixed the road blocks! Thank you for all your videos I have learned a lot from you. Lawrence
In some ways, the connecting is just like regular cursive writing. Your video with basic strokes gave me the 'aha' moment. It finally fell into place. Am able to use for store's signs now. Thanks!
I tend to do some of those connections on non-connections in my typical cursive!!! But because of my "signature" cursive handwriting, it's been hard to do some of the beginning strokes for letters! I am getting much better, though. Thanks for all the tips.
This is THE MOST HELPFUL brush lettering/modern calligraphy video and lesson I've ever watched! Your writing is amazing, and I'm off to check out your website.
Thank you for these remarkable videos. I am using your work as a review. I have arthritis and use a medication to catch up about once a week. Keep up the good and informative work. Thank you again for all you do!
I have got to say, within 2 days, I have become an expert at doing calligraphy writing, I really want to thank you so much, and the way you teaches how to do it was just terrific really hope more people come to take her advice and become experts in no time, and once again Thank You So Much!!!
I just taught myself cursive over the past few months and am really happy about my progress and now I'm probably going to have to start doing calligraphy. This adds a whole new dimension to what I've already been practicing and seems like a pretty logical conclusion. I think it's interesting that I know a lot of this information already from cursive but obviously the letter forming is far more stringent than I'm used to and it seems like a fun challenge. Anyway thanks for the cool content even though that straight lined "vi" is cursed xD
your best video and most helpful! i recently became *OBSESSED* with calligraphy and i practice for hours every day but i’m having trouble connecting. Thanks! Subscribed.
Back again and began reading the labels on your Sterilite containers in the background. Not going to lie, I initially thought the one labelled fudenosuke said something else. Thanks for the chuckle.
This was super helpful, Becca, but also very affirming in that I've apparently been doing much of it already intuitively. Excellent instruction though ... once again, thank you sooo much for this. 👍👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 & you have a great day!! 🙂💜 purple for courage & Spring crocus!
The more I practice my calligraphy connections, it dawned on me that calligraphy is just fancy cursive writing. I was always a good writer in school, but never connected the 2?! 🙄 I have made calligraphy MUCH harder than it need be. I cannot make my calligraphy as beautiful as my regular cursive writing tho. What is hardest for me is capital letters. I need to finish the Capital letter course. You are a beautiful writer, Becca. I would love to be able to write as well. I wish I would have learned calligraphy 20 yrs ago. Thank you for sharing your expertise. 💖
Thanks a lot. It's a real problem in french because we have a lot of junctions between the "v" and the " r", like "avril" ( april) or "vrai" ( true) for exemple. So thanks for your solutions.
Thank you Becca! I'm new to the calligraphy game and have watched a ton of videos. Your's is the very BEST! I have not found a pen that works good for me. The one you used in this particular video looks like what I want but I did not catch the name of the pen. What is it? And would you recommend a different starter pen for a newbie?
What kind of paper would you recommend to use to write letters to send to friends and family? I am practicing with a dip pen but I also have fudenosuke brush pens.
Will your books become available on Amazon? I have Hp smart and pay for printed pages which makes your digital manuals completely out of my range.😞. Thanks!
Nice video but I have one question are you not supposed to write in one fluid motion or are you supposed to stop and complete each basic stroke every time?
So if writing out a paragraph, would you use different styles of letters within that paragraph? Say if you did the w with the different r would you need to use that same style r throughout the paragraph? Curious...
Hi Becca can you make a video where you form basic strokes to make every letter. Please?I get stuck on letters like F K C. E Sometimes the basic strokes dont form letters like that.I'd really like it if you made a video for it during this isolation time.
I used to think I knew a lot about brush lettering, but you taught me there's a lot more out there to it. Really glad for your videos😊
Instablaster.

Yes, very true...so for me this is really just cursive (and I borrow from italic caligraphy).
'i'm 80 and I love Becca! I have good cursive however as Becca says calligraphy is totally different than cursive.
Exactly!!!! My exact thoughts entirely.... verbatim!!!

I'm a thousand times better at lettering than i was 4-5 days ago because of like 3 videos on this channel. Thank you!

Wow you’re so good at explaining. I’ve a ton of videos on how to properly do a calligraphy but yours are the best.
Thank you! Very interesting and helpful! You are a great teacher!
Thank you Becca!! I love your videos. You explain things very clearly. Congrats on the 100K UA-cam award!!
Brand new to calligraphy-never had good handwriting-You’re the best teacher!!
Thanks Becca...the connection of the "w" and "r" in my name had me stumped. I like the separating the letters, so much easier. ❤️
Don’t be jerks and hit the dislike, people! This was solid information
You’re Incredibly talented thank you for teaching us and sharing your talent

Thanks a lot. It was exciting. It would be great to see how you connect "w" or "v" and "e".
This is THE MOST HELPFUL brush lettering/modern calligraphy video and lesson I've ever watched! Your writing is amazing, and I'm off to check out your website.

Hi Becca. I'm from Nicaragua, and I like so much your Smart way to teach: Simple, deep and beauty.
I was not expecting I would find a video on EVERY question I had on your channel. Thanks a lot! 😅😘

❤❤❤❤❤ Trying to learn more about connecting letters and this was incredibly helpful!
Great video, super helpful! Some of the connections feel more intuitive; but some are really awkward. These ideas will help a lot! You rock!

Thank you very much for your very good teaching! Could you please teach us how to connect the word “sister”? Thanks in advance!
What kind of paper would you recommend to use to write letters to send to friends and family? I am practicing with a dip pen but I also have fudenosuke brush pens.
Very helpful thank you
What kind of tombow fudenosuke pen do you hard tip or soft? Which one do you prefer??
Yes this video is helpful ,. I think was best for is basic tricks always on the top of my paper so I could refer to it so that would , I guess
Will your books become available on Amazon? I have Hp smart and pay for printed pages which makes your digital manuals completely out of my range.😞. Thanks!
Hi Becca. Can u pls tell me that if u r having a Tombow Fudenosuke soft tip or hard tip?
wow never learned this great....
Super useful! Thank you Becca
Nice video but I have one question are you not supposed to write in one fluid motion or are you supposed to stop and complete each basic stroke every time?
Great video.. I'm struggling with spacing.. how do you know how many squares, or dots for bujo folks, to use per letter?
Are there hard & fast rules as to how letters are joined? Or is it what looks best? Thanks
Learn how to connect "x", and you've learned all.
For the fact is true❤🎉
So if writing out a paragraph, would you use different styles of letters within that paragraph? Say if you did the w with the different r would you need to use that same style r throughout the paragraph? Curious...
