I used to think I knew a lot about brush lettering, but you taught me there's a lot more out there to it. Really glad for your videos😊

As I'm watching this I'm realizing that your audience must be a generation younger than me (maybe even two). The connections are second nature for those of us who learned cursive at a very early age. I was probably 9 or 10 and all our school work had to be in cursive and we were actually graded on it - Penmanship class. It never occurred to me that a connection would have to be thought about in advance.
Great tips for making this work, especially for those who didn't grow up using cursive. You're a truly gifted teacher with a mastery of explaining things.
I'm eager to put your clearly explained directions into practice. Many thanks.

Yes, very true...so for me this is really just cursive (and I borrow from italic caligraphy).

dont worry you are not the only "old" one here! :D had to wirte excersice books full of text in cursive as a first grader, for weeks long as only class, so yeah, connecting letters come naturally sort of....

I have been watching a lot of videos about calligraphy and you are the Most generous with information. You also have a talent for explaining things. You seemed to really understand the gap between being new or intermediate and being a master. Thanks for being so thoughtful. It is clear that you are passionate about what you do. You want others to succeed.

I like the twist to some letters like w, v or o, with the little loops! I think they're prettier, and they also make more sense to me as in France we learn to write with cursive! Great tutorial as always Becca!

I agree with Jeani Miner. When I was growing up Mom required that I learn cursive even before classes at school. Penmanship was very important to her. Fast forward 50 years and I watched my grandson barely scribble out a printed name. I began looking for the tools to teach him calligraphy and he really took to it. Now that he’s 22 I need to share these videos with him. I’m sure he’ll enjoy them as much as I do.

In some ways, the connecting is just like regular cursive writing. Your video with basic strokes gave me the 'aha' moment. It finally fell into place. Am able to use for store's signs now. Thanks!

I tend to do some of those connections on non-connections in my typical cursive!!! But because of my "signature" cursive handwriting, it's been hard to do some of the beginning strokes for letters! I am getting much better, though. Thanks for all the tips.

I just taught myself cursive over the past few months and am really happy about my progress and now I'm probably going to have to start doing calligraphy. This adds a whole new dimension to what I've already been practicing and seems like a pretty logical conclusion. I think it's interesting that I know a lot of this information already from cursive but obviously the letter forming is far more stringent than I'm used to and it seems like a fun challenge. Anyway thanks for the cool content even though that straight lined "vi" is cursed xD

The more I practice my calligraphy connections, it dawned on me that calligraphy is just fancy cursive writing. I was always a good writer in school, but never connected the 2?! 🙄 I have made calligraphy MUCH harder than it need be. I cannot make my calligraphy as beautiful as my regular cursive writing tho. What is hardest for me is capital letters. I need to finish the Capital letter course. You are a beautiful writer, Becca. I would love to be able to write as well. I wish I would have learned calligraphy 20 yrs ago. Thank you for sharing your expertise. 💖

So if writing out a paragraph, would you use different styles of letters within that paragraph? Say if you did the w with the different r would you need to use that same style r throughout the paragraph? Curious...
