    I know there are lots of Freeze dried ice cream videos out there. But how come no one tries anything but eating it? We freeze dry Ice cream sandwich, Ice cream cones, neapolitan and mint chocolate chip scoops and ice cream cookies and i show how to make it. I show how it's made, rehydrating, and "what in the heck?" the rocket pops do as well as a taste test. If this doesn't suit your fancy you can always check out my other freeze dried food videos.

    If you really want to try to reconstitute it, weigh your item before and after freeze drying, and calculate the difference. Weigh the water, don't go by fluid ounces, and add back only the missing water volume and see if you're any closer to the original consistency. It will probably take more time and effort than other foods.

    Ice cream is the best freeze dried - I made a batch of Costco's premium vanilla - it separated because they used too many fillers and thickeners - it was a bubbly mess - nothing like a simple Nestle ice cream sandwich which dried looking the same as it went in - I wrote to the company on their FB page to complain about it - their response was "why would you want t freeze dry ice cream? Ha ha ha Cheap ingredients to make it taste rich and thick - at a premium price.

    • @live.life.simple.
      @live.life.simple.  4 роки тому +5

      I don't usually mess with the shelf temp. I would make sure your ice cream is very cold before putting it in. I use the brick cartons of ice cream and slice them as opposed to scoops. Use the prefreeze setting on your dryer and get the machine good and cold before starting. Some ice creams work better than others. I have had good luck with the Kroger brand

    Hi! I’m new to the freeze drying community. I was looking for some info on custom setting cycles. I’ve always used the default settings and haven’t seemed to run into problems. How do you pre-freeze the machine for things like ice cream, single serve whipped cream and yogurt chips? If you deep freeze the trays and food prior to loading it into the machine, can you bypass the deep freeze cycle or is it still necessary?

    • @live.life.simple.
      @live.life.simple.  4 роки тому +5

      To me the newest version of the software makes it so adjusting is not necessary (IMO). If you prefreeze everything, especially ice cream, i think you'll find it will adjust cycles and temps for you.

      I do not have the oilless. There are lots of people that have it and love it. I have the older pump and when it dies on me, i will decide if the oil less has proven it's extra cost. Whichever pump you go with, buy a small desk fan to put on it while its running. All of them, especially the oil less run very hot, the fan keeps it cool. Every once in a while HR will run a special, i think they had one for V-day. It's always worth asking for Military discount too. If you ever have any questions, feel free to reach out.

    If you bought a new freeze dryer, with the most recent software, you’ll need to go into “test mode” and turn freeze on for at least 8 hours before starting actual cycle when making freeze dried ice cream. The new software won’t allow you to customize freeze times. If you don’t, the ice cream puffs up and expands the moment the vacuum starts. I contacted Harvest right and also got an older version of the software. But, when making ice cream, i just cheat with test mode. Took 3 ruined batches and some research as to why, but definitely needs more freeze time than the unit provides in its normal cycle.

    What setting do you use ? Don’t the machine heat up at some point during the cycle?

    • @live.life.simple.

      take your shelf temp down and make sure your HR is very cold before starting and your ice cream is also very cold.

    Thanks for sharing! I can't wait to do the drumsticks. Important Tip: I would definitely wash that cutting board after setting a germy grocery store package or carton on it, before I set the unwrapped block of ice cream, or other food, on it! I usually wash all packages first, but washing the ice cream carton would probably start melting the block of ice cream.

      Other people have mentioned this as well. I think it is the brand used. I was just using the generic Kroger brand.

    I looked at Harvest Right for the new software. I didn't see it. Do you have to call them to order it? I have the new oil-less pump, and I love it!

    • @live.life.simple.
      @live.life.simple.  5 років тому

      I am not sure when they are going to release it for sale as an update. They put it on the new machines and it seems to be 50/50 on whether people like it or not. I personally think it's great. I am torn on the oil less pump though. I think i am going to hold off on it for now and get feedback. Has it affected your power bill? better or worse?

      @@live.life.simple. I asked about the new software at one point and they said they're not releasing it until they work out all of the bugs in it they're having some issues with it.

      hmm. I know that some of the people that responded to my vid on it, said they had it on their machines when they purchased new (same version as i have)

    One time on the north side of Chicago on Devon Street I unintentionally bought some free dried ice cream you see this lady was pushing a cart full of freeze dried ice cream and it was absolutely disgusting however that was just cuz I was expecting something fresh by if I was to do this with a couple of my own home that freeze dried Ice Cream Sandwich Bar actually looks like it will be great and a jar just as a decorative piece
