Hey, man! love the video. Funny this came up because I literally have an A7iii and A7siii and i've been considering trading them both for A7IV. What is the true loss with video from the A7siii to the A7IV? I also, love shooting pictures and miss being a totally hybrid boy with my A7iii. Thank you!
@@mewnew Thanks Matthew! 12,800 ISO, Reliability from overheating, 4K120p, and 4K60 no crop. Honestly, those are the only things that are missing. The screen is a bit dimmer than the a7siii but I've never had issues in broad daylight. As a fellow hybrid boy, I can say that the A7IV is a huge upgrade from the a7iii or a crippled a7siii that can take great high res photos.
@@VictorLaforteza ah thank you! thats what I thought I wasnt sure If i was missing anything. Crops dont bother me so much, just slap a 24 on there hehe. I am really curious about the still photography with the updated color science. :) Thanks for the reply!
Buddy, Which is the font style?
"Upgrade your skills first before you upgrade your camera."
No
I agree to a certain extent but can’t u just upgrade ur camera and then work on ur skills and learn about ur new camera at the same time? It’s not that deep bro🤣
@@tanyaredddhonestly when your getting into the 3,000$usd and more + range…. YES, your skills should be up to par to understand every single aspect of how to control/work that camera from the moment you pick it up (yes I understand maybe not menus and the little tinkerings) main thing here is no one says you can’t do what you want to (atleast me lol) but I recommend 100% you have your skills up to par to really take advantage of the full experience of this A7iv… this is my main camera and I absolutely love it… video is my main thing so yes he mentioned “heat problems” that is THE ONLY thing that would ever hold this camera back and I’ve owned now a few months after it was resealed so beginning of 2022 I’ve loved this camera and I’ve only ran into heat issues EITHER A. I was helping produce a live stream for a podcast and I was using my A7iv and during testing of the setup we learned after roughly 30-40 minutes of shooting 4k top setting… the bad boy over heated into “battery exhausted” mode WITH “heat shutdown” set in HIGH… we ended up live streaming in 1080p so never ended up being a problem 😉 B. Second time it happened is I was shooting in my handheld rig setup outside, it was 95 degrees in FL and briefly I’d have to have cool down periods with the camera in the shade, after pausing for 5-15 minutes we got right back to shooting on and off for the next 3-4 hours and as the day progressed and sun was going down it never then again happened even being tapped in to battery power for most of the time of the shoot💯 believe in the whole year & a half I owned it, it’s overheated on me roughly 5-8 times but it was brief and didn’t persist long at all when it did happen, most the time, let it sit for 5-10 mins and it’s good to go again with no more problems usually 💯 other then that it’s literally the best handheld mirrorless for that price point 💯💯🔥🔥
This hurts because it's true..still tho 😅
Gotta agree with this one. I switched from a7III to FX3 and its actually so embarrassing for me that I still can't utilise the full potential of a camera that I paid so much money for😭 I mean, my stuff isn't terrible but I'm still struggling to achieve the look that I would be satisfied with. Everything I shoot and ''color grade'' ends up looking so digital and plain. Before I got FX3 I thought ''Oh yeah Im gonna get a beast like FX3, put my 24mm GM lens on it, and I'll easily get the look like Danny Gevirtz''...but reality turned out to be brutal😂
Your projects look amazing, the flow and the details
I almost forgot that I was here for some gear advice
So glad to hear! 🙌🏽
Love your style of narrative review. Straight forward and very practical. Keep it up bro and Great Job. You're an inspiration 👏
Thank you, Chris! trying to keep the reviews chill and straight to the point!
Perfect Review loved the vibes and pacing. Simple and to the point conclusion as well :)
Great vid and lovely work bro, the fashion film in particular looks legot
I love the practical approach for this review, awesome work man
Thank you! I really wanted to showcase how the camera performs rather than plaster my face talking about it lol!
Your coloring work is so good!
I just recently got to see your videos and the first thing I noticed is the color is so well done that it makes a ton of difference with other youtube content. So please keep doing it! I will as well, your fx30 video was spot on as well, I saved it as inspiration
Thank you so much! Trying my best to not get into the tiktok/reels effect (where everyone just copies a trend) but we'll see how it goes lol so many people create content it's hard to be original nowadays. Thanks for checking out my vids!
Great review. Very honest & insightful
Dude, so glad to had found your channel, congrats for the work and love your point of view of "reviewing the camera".
Welcome to the channel! Glad you enjoyed the review 🙌🏽
Great great great vid, covered everything super concisely and didn't drag on with fluff like most reviews. I've loved seeing your A7IV content and overall workflow videos, super informative. I wanted to ask and see if you would maybe do a video covering what (in your opinion) the best/most efficient setting layout for the A7IV is for your line of work. I got the camera not too long ago and it seems daunting to try and map out what options should go where, I feel like it would end up slowing down work flow instead of helping it. Much love again for all the vids, love your content!
Thanks, Patrick! I try to cut all the fluff after the initial cut.. I hated watching videos and it has 8 mins of fluff and 2 mins of actual content so I decided to make my own lol. Yeah, I have one on the works already for the A7IV settings video! Keep an eye when it's out :)
@@VictorLaforteza An absolute legend, you are literally someone who gets it haha. A man for the people! I'm super psyched to see what you have in store! :-)

After watching many videos about "A7IV vs A7SIII" this the video that has convinced me to go for the A7IV. Great video overall - Vibe. Pace. Story. Thank you

The best review I ever seen, you made my mind. Cheers
Glad you think so! Any questions about the a7iv, just ask 🙌🏽🙌🏽
From your mouth to gods ears. This camera is amazing and I love shooting with it and editing the files. Nice video!
Thank you Brian! I love love shooting with it as well!
wow man! This is a really good video. Such a interesting and original way of reviewing a camera!
Thank you!! Glad you enjoyed the review 🙌🏽
Nicely done! 👌
Great video man! Tossing up between the A7iv A7siii and even the FX3. All such great options
Client work - a7siii / fx3 all the way! Personal and social media, a7iv best bang for buck! The overheating is a risk I wouldn’t take on a shoot if I don’t have a back up cam!
Dude…just bought the camera and you helped me avoid buyers remorse. Thank you
Such a great video. Very well done!!
Thanks for watching, Jake! Do you also shoot with an a7iv??
Your work is incredible!
Thank you, fellow Victor! Appreciate it 🙏🏽🙏🏽

Your practice shows on the color grading. Amazing!!!
Thank you, Sean!
The last minute of this video was really something I needed to hear 🙏🏼
lighting and composition first over gear!! 😇
Fantastic video... Incredible job. Keep it up!
Thank you 🙏🏽
Man, your channel is very inspiring, I bought the A7IV because of you and can't wait to start creating more content. I was a GH5 shooter and I think this change will give me more creativity due to autofocus and probably that was the key aspect to buy this camera
WOOO that's amazing! GH5 is a beast but Sony is a totally different ballgame in terms of autofocus. Can't beat solo shooting with it! Link up some of your A7IV work when it's out! always curious to others use the camera!
The style of this video is awesome man. If you made a video about how you shoot with your A7 IV and the color grading process that would be super helpful to watch.
Thank you! The colour grading video is out already :) how to shoot is coming soon!
@@VictorLaforteza awesome man I’ll be sure to check it out
fantastic shots and color. Well done.
Thank you! Cheers!
Good review man and amazing work!! .. I just got the camera myself upgrading from a Canon RP and I’m loving it
Thank you man! What made you switch from canon to Sony?
The image stabilization, canons have that weird wobble effect and seem like Sony doesn’t have that issue but I’m still keeping my canon rp w/ 16mm for vlogs ..👍🏿
@@ThisisAOTV Ya... idk why they havent fixed those yet!! The active stabilization for the a7iv is much much better compared to it.
Inspiring! I have subscribed!
Welcome to the channel 🙏🏽🙏🏽
Hi ! I already owe a A7 IV, mostly for photography and yes, this camera is a masterpiece ! For everyday use or professional work. I've really enjoyed your video, simple & efficient.
It give me wings to go out and shoot some video !
Glad to hear the video inspired you to go out and shoot!! The best thing ever!
love your channel bro... the A7 iv content is 👌

Great content as always. I just started my own channel with my FX3 and I'm really enjoying it. Thanks for the inspiration!

@@VictorLaforteza super nice of you! Thank you!
Great video!
Glad you enjoyed it
Hi Victor! First off, brilliant video. Just subscribed. I currently own the A7SIII and the A7III as a video/photo setup. I have a 35 and a 85 prime. Going to be switching to more of a documentary/vlog/photography role after the summer. Would you recommend keeping both cameras and buying a 20mm for vlogs, selling it all and switching to the A7IV as a hybrid with a 16-35 and a 24-70, or something else? Thanks for your feedback!
Thanks Jason! Welcome to the channel! As for the gear, I really do like the a7iv but there’s always a risk of overheating in long shooting days. If you have time in between shots to have the camera cool down from consistently shooting I would definitely take the a7iv and the two lenses 16-35 and 24-70
On the other hand, the a7siii is a much more reliable video cam and having two cameras come with a peace of mind that if one fails, you have a back up. Though in my experience, I’ve never had a Sony fail on me just some overheating issues on some long days.
I think overall all three cameras are good! But lens choice should easily be the zoom lenses especially for doc/photography work. Primes are great for controlled shoots or if you easily have time to switch lenses.
I know this isn’t the most direct answer but I hope it helps!
"Upgrade your skills first before you upgrade your gear and you'll see a much better return on investment." Exactly! That's some truth right there.
You know, I didn't once scale up your shots by 500%, examine the sharpness in the corners and compare it to more expensive gear. I was too busy enjoying the way the images made me FEEL. Great Job. Very inspiring 🙏
Exactly! So much emphasis on gear recently meanwhile the best thing you could do is maximize the output of your current camera and make people feel with your videos!!
I'm a creator in Taiwan too:) and I'm about to buy this, ugh you've convinced me. Thanks for the thorough review!
As a vlog creator if you could just pick one lens to go with the A7IV which would it be?
I'd say the Sony 20mm 1.8 would be the best! I personally love prime lenses and it's perfect for everyday videos. If you do need longer focal lengths, Sony 16-35 f4 PZ is another great choice. The other zoom lenses are big and cumbersome to take with every single day so I usually opt out with lightweight lens.
ALSO, this camera gets uncomfortably warm kinda (not that it would overheat). Summer hasn't peaked in Toronto yet but I'd say it'll be like holding a heat pad in Taiwan summers lol shouldn't have issues though if you're holding it with a vlogging tripod
bro! you’re amazing
Thank you bro!
A1 content. Straight no BS. New sub
Thank you brother 🙏🏽🙏🏽
Glad you touched on your grading. This is some of theeeee best in see on here . Which courses did u take ? I really want to get on it asap
I took the black magic free training on their website! Really good foundation! Then I paid for lowepost for masterclasses from Hollywood pros.
Amazing vid man. How do you achieve this level of softness especially on skin tones? Did you use a promist or use another method in post?
Both :) 1/8 or 1/4 filter is usually good for me but I add glow / retouching on skin especially on beauty shots.
とても素敵な映像ですね‼️
this review is damn amazing 🔥
Thank you!!!
Love this video
Thank you!!
Wow, your footage looks absolutely incredible. I’ve just received a A7iv after waiting for 2 months and I’m beyond exited. I’ve played around with Slog3 and different LUTs and the result is really good but would love to get better at colouring and grading. Could you recommend any courses?
Thank you! The A7iv is absolutely amazing! No doubt it'll spark some creativity with it. I took the Blackmagic Design Free Course to begin with blackmagicdesign.com/products/davinciresolve/training and then I paid for a few months of lowepost to learn from the industry pros! The free training has a lot of good info and it does look daunting to begin with but it's actually so easy to follow!
lov it ma man!
Thanks man!! Appreciate it lots!
Your colours blow my mind 👌
Thank you!! I have posted how I colour grade my footage, might interest you!
This video was insanely helpful as I am currently trying to decide on what camera to go for next coming from an A6500. I was wondering what your experience has been like with the rolling shutter? That's essentially my only concern between this and an A7SIII/FX3. Thank you.
I would say it's quite okay as long as you aren't doing any fast paced shoots. Never bothered me on my shoots but then again I don't do action stuff haha! I would check out Jacques' a7iv fitness commercial. He's done it quite well and might give you more info on the rolling shutter :)
@@VictorLaforteza Wow! Thank you for the fast reply. I'll definitely check that out right now. Thanks again!

Been thinking about this camera
It’s been great! Still my most used camera !
Bro you did not just go off on this video and make a masterpiece. Super solid video
I appreciate that!
Just used the A7IV for the first time for a music video shoot and it was amazing! It didn’t overheat on me, granted the shoot wasn’t outdoors, we were in a hot room in a warehouse with no AC. But I think the big reason it didn’t overheat was because I used a dummy battery and attached it to a big V-mount battery. So I think that displaced most of the heat to the battery. But again I haven’t shot outdoors, so time will tell.
I’ve been shooting with it whole summer outdoors! No overheating 🙌🏽 that was the only time when I took it on a farm shoot for the whooooole day. Great camera 📸

Really enjoyed this video. I own two for my video projects (lot's of 2 camera interviews). Do you find a difference in the codecs in terms of the "image" you get?
Not by much tbh! You get incremental for the S-I but you won’t see much difference unless you pixel peep!
