Wow. Perfect timing. I just finished doing an outrageous amount of mods to my 133X, and the next (and last) step is to potentially get myself an electric motor to help me get around better; my 55 lbs. thrust Xi3 is awesome, but doesn't get me the speed I'm looking for (especially if a storm comes out of nowhere here in Florida like what you experienced). I was specifically looking at the NK180, and have been trying to find a review with one on a 133X. So thank you!
I feel you on the complaint about the scupper holes, too; I had to plug the ones in the stern section of my yak because when I load some gear into it (along with my battery and battery box), water will fill into it upwards to a few inches high, and my gear just sits in it. I ended up installing a couple of bilge pumps in case water gets in it now, which is frustrating because one of the main points to scupper holes is to eliminate the need for bilge pumps (not to mention that it's asking a lot to install bilge pumps on a kayak). I love my 133x, but they really should use more material to create thicker walls in a few select areas of the yak. The quality control was lacking when I bought mine, too. The hull was full of plastic shards from where the hatches, t-tracks, etc. were installed at the factory, and it all had to be vacuumed out. They didn't even drill pilot holes; they just screwed straight into the yak with a drill/driver and screw. Because of that, it rendered the gaskets on the hatches to be useless because the plastic 'lipped' up around the screw, and tore the gaskets up. I had to remove the hatches, shave down the 'lipped' plastic, replace the gaskets, and reinstall (along with some Marine 5200 along the outer edges). All of the screws on it had to be removed, have the lipped plastic shaved down, and then be reinstalled with Marine 5200 to ensure a seal (I even used neoprene washers with nuts and bolts in some areas). Even the 4" pieces of round plastic that were bored out to create the hatches were just sitting inside the hull of the yak. Fortunately, this ended up being a benefit, because it gave me a ton of extra material to perform repairs with. But it really came delivered to me in an unacceptable and unsafe state. There is also minimal foam in the hull, so there's no matter in the hull to displace water and keep it out; so if I hadn't known better, took it out, and that thing had flipped, it would have sank. I purchased mine about 2 years ago, so hopefully this has improved. Did you experience any of this with yours?
thia one i about 2 years old too, i went to basspro this year and they had the same model, no upgrandes, another mod you can do is you can put in some foam blocks to the rear hatch to lift the tank well at bit or at least give it structure, the problem the boat is having is that it is so soft there taht anything you put on the tankwell brings the flood down, and makes it like a waterproof basket lol, water just pool there. i got close to 5mph, bad against the wave 4.5ish, but if i didnt have that much weight and water in the rear i bet it goes over 5, like if you can put the batter on the bow, and go lite in the tankwell, speed will improve! hey if you do buy the nk180pro or any motor please use my affiliate link! hope you continue to have great times with the 133x, i know it requires a lot of work but at least it didint cost $5000
@@AliexFolgueira Thank you for the reply, man! I'm disappointed to hear that it doesn't seem like BassPro has done anything to improve the Ascend 133x. It's just like you said - if they would put some more effort/material/improvements into it and charge a little more, there would hardly be any competition. The biggest complaint I hear (and reason that someone didn't buy the 133x) is the thinner plastic in certain areas (like what you said about the tank well). I do love it though, and it definitely serves its purpose well for a ~$1K kayak. The 133x platform is such a blank canvas, and one can make it into exactly what they want from a kayak. It's just like a really light John boat, honestly. I haul mine in the bed of my truck, and can get that thing into places that someone with a trailer can only dream of. If you get an opportunity, could you please do a speed test on the NK180 with a loaded down Ascend 133x? I'm trying to decide between it or the NK300; the 36 volt battery thing is a turn-off for me, though. But I'll use your link once I decide. Thank you for all of the effort into testing this yak and motor!
@jamescanady3442 I tested it in rough and calm water, cooler, super heavy blackpak probably 30# and it still didn't go over that 5mph it clocked in at 4.7mph most of the time, it is weird like the motor seem to max out the hull speed for it on this boat.
I have a video with the nk300 on this but I haven't edited it, 75% power 850 w, it hits 4.8- 5mph
100% 1300% 5.3 mph so not worth going 100%
Looks like the boat max out at 5.3mph
The 40# battery was in the rear, it was full of water that's as a crazy amount of extra weight added, I don't think moving all that weight to the front would change much, maybe 5.5max
If you get the 30ah 36v you cut down over 12# but half the capacity lol
I don't know but I don't think the extra weight and cost is worth 0.6 mph on the nk300 for this boat
Awesome the way you got out of the rocks...Great upper body strength! :)
see it was nasty, maybe not 4 fts but still haha gopro makes it look flat
When I first saw this fully rigged at Bass Pro I was excited. It looked like a micro skiff. Then I leaned in on it and the flex was a bit much kinda close to Pelican plastic. After seeing the scuppers flooding under power it changed my mind. With just a few tweaks this could be a killer like you said. A little stiffer and with proper drainage and you could rig it like a micro skiff with a small outboard and a stand up bar then swap back to kayak mode with an NK. They are so close.
i willl teak it it, mod it, make it special i have time now, and it is popular i can invest time on it ¨TURNING A TRASH KAYAK INTO A KILLER KAYAK basspro ascend 133x¨
I have this 133x and I leave the rear scuppers in and no problems
You can't just say that, add some details, how do you use your boat ??? Do you carry anything heavy on the tank well?
Is it better than the regular nk-180?
Yes more efficient, better throttle and mount, but not much faster, at least I have g experience that yet, Old 180 is discontinued
newport says 16% increased on seed but speed depends on so much, weight, size of the boat, i will do more tests
Thinking about adding this to my Autopilot 120. That extra speed will help me a lot!
For the autopilot if you don't mind the extra weight and cost the nk300 works better, but the nk180 pro will help
300nk on ap, trolling up 6 mph, motor down 5.5ish-7, nk180 pro est. 4.5-4.7 mph it is gennerally a 1mph slower than the nk300, i will test this on the ap
@AliexFolgueira Easy enough to set up myself I guess?
@donmorin5611 ohh yeah I just added it to the pp mount, here is a video ua-cam.com/video/89zIXFOWRIk/v-deo.html
Aliex should I buy this or the nk300?
what kayak do you have? whats your goal for the motor?
@@AliexFolgueira pro angler 12
for any big kayak like that I would get the NK300, why? the Pro Angler can take it! plus you can go over 6.5MPH easy, maybe faster, the 180Pro is nice but not as powerful, you may see 5ish MPH, also the NK300 you can use my code aliex180 and save 10%, (please use my affiliate link if you decide to buy it newportvessels.rfrl.co/3wj9y ) which is basically gonna make it close to the same price, the only thing is the battery 36v will be heavier and probably more expensive is you opt for higher capaciy, I used a 30ah and found it to have plenty of power for regular days, specially if you don't go full throtle, you also have the drive. 30ah 36v battery is comparible to the 24v 50ah in terms of weight and cost.
@@AliexFolgueira thanks brother

I spec'ed out a Hobie special edition fishing Kayak and totaled it up with everything I'd want on it to fully rick it out. After i realized the total cost, i went to my local Bass Pro Shop and made a deal on a new 19' Bass Tracker Pro bass boat with a Mercury 115.
Ans with the money i saved i bought lunch at Rallys drive thru on the way home.
WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON WITH THESE FRIGGIN PLASTIC BOATS!!
Once upon a time, they were a terrific, affordable option for people. I talked to a young man at the launch who had over 10k in his twin Lowrance units alone.
He said he'd financed it all through a local credit union for 60 months.
It was at that moment I knew mankind was finished 😂
doesn't seem to me like you are making the right comparison lol boat price is $1000, motor and battery $1800, so total $2800, almost the cost of your boat trailer alone
folks and their electronics
@@curritravesia2299 ?
Should I get the 180pro or the 300 for my native titan x 12.5?
i would get the 300, why? more powerful, faster, more efficient and the motor costs about the same. Most importantly your titan can handle it and being a super big heavy boat it needs tbe extra power. Please use my affiliate link if you do buy it
it helps me keep this up
nk300 newportvessels.rfrl.co/3wj9y
discount code aliex180 works on the nk300, and batteries, not on the 180pro
thanks

great review
thanks bro, had it in calm water today still hit that max 4.7-4.8 myabe 4.9
Rock fishing
lil 5hp murcury or johnson ull be doin 25 in that thing haha.
probably max out at 8mph i bet, so much water will get it it may sink.
Put the 300 on there
If people are putting out alot of money for these motors the manufacturers could at least at a PWM built-in make people feel like they are really getting a bang for the buck, we all know the cost of materials to manufacturer those motors dont cost that much ! Good luck
This is a variable speed, goes from 1
0, 1,2,3,4-100 % power brushless motor, super efficient
needs higher side walls, wont make it much heavier.
bro i came from a trip, got home at 10pm, left it on the trailer, it rained. Went outside the tankwell was full of water, my blackpak was full of water, the deck under the seat had water, this kayak as they sell it is trash, you have to mod it to make it work.
The 133x is boo boo like you said. It has some nice features but the cons out way the pros. 😢
Like you have to mod it to make it work well
