One thing I really like about China is the urban parks and squares, where older people gather regularly to sing, dance, and just chill with their friends. This part of Chinese culture is much less common anywhere in the world. What a great thing it is to provide the population with all these public parks, it makes their life quality much more fun, particularly for older people and young children.

I cannot believe I only found this video now! I am born and raised in Qingtian and has lived in US for seven years. Watching the scenaries and listening to the accents in the video is just so nostalgic. Some of the things I would like to comment:
    1. My grandmom used to live around the neighborhood shown in 2:34 (上店街). It is the oldest part of the town and was the town center 40 years ago. (And shame on me that I don't even know it's about to be demolished).
    2. Yes, most of us have relatives/friends in China. But most of them are in EU not in US.
    3. There are actually some local restaurants good for one person to have quick meal. I guess you didn't come across them because you are not in the busier side of the town.
    4. Yes, the southern part of Zhejiang is just so mountainous. I think there is only one route that goes along the the river and you have to share the road with cars and trucks (very unfortunate for you).
    5. Technically Qingtian (which is a 县county) is part of Lishui (which is a 市prefecture) LOL.
    6. I think it's relevant to say that the government of Zhejiang Province do not access the performance of Lishui government based on economy, but rather based on the environments protection. This is actually quite unique and is a result of mountainous terrain.

  • @OnRiki

Hello Katherine! I encountered one of your videos several weeks ago. And I especially like your Zhejiang series, because it's my home province, but I emigrated at the age of five to Austria (and ever since live here). So I was curious if you will cycle through Lishui City and Qingtian County (and yes it's my ancestral home). Today I was pleased to see this video.
And you might curious about the cause of the great diaspora of Qingtianese People (about 300K living abroad and currently Qingtian County has a population of 570K).
    There are two main reasons:
1.) Searching for opportunities and realising them (which is also the main reason for any emigrants)
2.) The harsh natural environment, Qingtian County and also Lishui City is the most mountainous region in Zhejiang (Huangmaojian/黄茅尖 with 1930 m: The highest peak of Zhejiang is also situated in Longquan County within Lishui). This area consists of: 89,7% mountains, 5,3% water and only 5% arable Land. So it was difficult to make a living because of this harsh circumstances. But because of the great diaspora and their economic support in form of investments, Qingtian County is now among the richest regions in the whole of China.
I also wanted to say: I was astonished to see trough your videos, that the people especially in Zhejiang have now a great awareness of environment protection. It was very common in China that people will destroy the environment for short term benefits, neglecting the long term effects that will be longlasting and consequently leads to various expenses. The ongoing efforts of the government and the people make me very proud as an Overseas Chinese with Zhejiang ancestry. 青山绿山就是金山银山!
I think you and your company is doing a great job (I would also like to know, what kind of projects your company is currently doing).
Therefore many thanks for sharing your videos. Thumbs up!

@@kiwikemist you are right, there are many racists. Those ones who are not so racist are not really relaxed behaving normal because they know they are doing "overly kind" compared to others who are openly racists. Which means almost all of them are very racist inside, but will not admit it. They are very arrogant without being aware of it. They are brainwashed by their media but they will say that other people are brainwashed. They project everything to others in order to make themselves feel "clean" which they absolutely are not.
Italy especially one of the worsts. A couple from America (you can check Mahnoor Euceph) after her bad experience with her Asian American boyfriend in North Italy(the part considered more developed than the rest) announced that Italy is 20 years behind compared to US on the matter of racism.
But newspaper later protected racists(which are students, but even children can be, my friends met them) who treated them disrespectfully. But they will tell you not taking seriously because they are students/too young/just children/poor people/ignorant/with no culture + other 1000 excuses to calm you down so you don't stand up fighting against it, yes most of them choose to tolerate it and will teach you to let it be. This in Italy.

That "restaurant choice" moment hit home... I dunno how many times I ended up getting some noodles or fried rice because I didn't wanna sit in a big restaurant by myself (I mean yeah if I'm hungry I've done it though 😅)

You missed the most distinct and famous culture of 青田,that is 青田玉石(Jade) and its business, that's probably the whole reason why a third of the population migrated to Europe

I think Wenzhou itself has more people living outside of it than natives living in side. But that stat was from decade agos.

    • @hangtuah888

With due respect, it would also be good if you drop the "s" from ago to join it in decade. Sorry for the erratum.

      Qingtian is actually pretty rich.
A lot of Chinese from Qingtian, its surrounding villages and the next „bigger“ town Lishui. These are where most of European oversea Chinese are from.
Which is why the overall development of Qingtian and Lishui are fast. Even compared to Chinas standards.

Qingtian has some developed areas. It is called little Hongkong, because it has very good light-show at night. Katherine likes to film old alleys and poor areas. Haha. The villages of Qingtian are located in the mountains, are well constructed and pretty. The local people are rich.

I’m from lishui, right now I am still there, the last time when I came back it was 11 years ago, so when I saw the development and everything that has changed it blew my mind, speacilly people here are hella wealthy, for a city that’s consider as tier 4 city which ranks at the bottom, the roads are full of mercedes, bmw, Maseratis, land rovers, I’ve even seem a couple rolls Royce’s , Ferrari, lambos, Bentleys, like wtf, I haven’t seen that much of luxury cars concentrated in such a small place and Lishui is considered as the poorest city within the province of Zhejiang when it comes to GDP 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️ I feel so fcking poor and shocked 😂
