In Chinese Traditional Culture, the funeral is called “喜丧” for a person having a very old age when passing away. (maybe more than 80+). You must smile and blessing for living such a long life. Thus, the funeral normally wears red clothing and is like a celebration.

      古人認為“福壽雙全”的逝者,才算是喜喪。如果更詳細,去世的老人若滿足了∶“全福、全壽、全終”這三個條件
This is pretty rare in the old days. 全壽 is 90 year or older. 全終 is natural death. 全福 usually mean large happy family.

This is my hometown, and when I attempt to describe it, I find my vocabulary limited. The dominant features include money, labor, noise, and pollution, as I live in an industrial area. However, your video today reminded me that there's more to share. The towns are surrounded by narrow alleys, rivers, and temples. Btw, stone sculptures that look like lions are actually qilin. Thanks for sharing your tour.😊

Thank you for visiting my hometown. It brings back a lot of memories. I left Wenzhou when I was 7. Spent over a decade in Europe, then moved to the USA where I still reside today.
As you stated, Wenzhou used to be very polluted. Your bike tour series is a great reminder that things can change when there's a genuine will to do so.

This is another wonderful look at Wenzhou. (10:22) The memory of your friend really adds depth to learning more about this city, and the huge transformation of China in the last 40+ years. Wenzhou is a coastal city facing waves of European colonizers, bringing with them "invasive species" to the local environment. (3:00) See that cross on the dome? ( 3:22) (3:35) The cross came with this lion image. (7:19) more invasive species. Globalization has its pluses and minuses.

Katherine, your trice retraced wenzhou visits makes an impression on you as it conveys the real China vibes; I was fortunate enough to be born and raised in the middle of Yangon Chinatown so I appreciate your colleague enthusiasm and sentiment with temples, markets and narrow alleys though my 17th street was twice as wide. Were you taking pot luck with your baidu maps? Ha ha even in American culture, funeral processions are avoided at all cost, not so different after all. The superstition is after a funeral attendance, you should't visit an expectant mother😅I am also a little perturbed at your pitchblack bike foray. Did you mistime you own curfew?😛

I'm literately here right now, visiting my birthplace. Left in 1990, almost everything's changed. Only things left unchanged are the Isle with the twin towers, Wuma street district which now seem to be designate historical district and the ancient city gate nearby. A lot of buildings seem to been rebuilt or renovated, they were much more rundown when I left. There's also a recent discovery of an ancient harbor by the Isle with the two towers, which they discovered when they tried to build a new road by the river. No they've stop the construction and planned on preserving the archaeological finding and turn it into a new tourist spot. Also btw, did you know Wenzhou is where they issue the first license of private business?

Normal funeral in wenzhou (cremation) starts very early in the morning, like 4 am or so. Where family member will do rituals and prayers (also days before) and sent off the diseased to the creamatorium. Usually whem all the rituals etc are done, they come back with a band of musicians. Id not mistaken.
