this is like the wizard of oz, I love how he meets all these people and they just tag along for the ride lol
It IS like like a topsy turvy version of Oz complete with its own reverse enchantment heh
And Rubles.
It’s like Pokémon the series
I guess you have never been to Russia have you ? Cops are 100% corrupt, avg. bribe price for small offenses is 5K RUB, more for more severe offenses. All it took for them was to give this guy 8k roubles wich is almost half of his monthly salary and about 1/50th of a salary of the reporter and he went on a ride with em. Its that easy. If you have money you can get away with alot of stuff here.
A mix of "Apocalypse Now", "1984" and "Wizard of Oz" all wrapped into one documentary! This has to be award winning...
Lol i love how this cop just rides around with them like he's got nothing else to do, but tag around with some unknown journalism crew for hours. xD
Tregeta He was probably paid by the Vice Crew to protect them. Corruption is very big in Russia.
Shabby Ken that "cop" is FSB for sure. I highly doubt he just happened to offer his services. He was put on that train and told to befriend them and keep track of them
Keegan McAuliffe pretty young for an FSB spy
pip chip good point
He's obviously FSB, it's pretty easy to tell
I love the dynamic of these three guys. There’s the quiet guy, the smartass, and the relatable kind of comedy relief reporter.
That dog running after the train was classic! (4:15) 🤣
Reminds me of the old top gear series
What I learned from this series: Travelling through Siberia is like a really fucked up D&D campaign in this huge lawless wilderness, where weird characters you meet just immediately join your aimless, poorly planned out quest.
Solid way of summing it up
And it sounds incredibly fun and a great time
Its like a savage side quest
I think that applies to men. I bet it’s incredibly dangerous if you’re a woman.
In Russia all you need is hat and vodka and you are cop
Great Meme Warrior LMFAO
that was the funniest thing I've red in a long time. 😂😁
@@irstalina read** RED pun intended ?
James Ware
Oh I'm Swedish I always get that wrong! but that was a nice PUN huh 😂
@@irstalina yeah Red as in Communism
Meanwhile the kid cop is an agent of FSB.
You hit the head on the nail my friend.
Got em good
skull crusher KGB is outdated
@@ianhines2302 sure it is, comrade 😉
What’s FSB?
It feels like I’m watching an anime, each episode there’s a new character comin along on the journey 😂
Lmao, I love it! *THIS* is informative AND entertaining. Especially during recent times as 2023 and early 2024 with the Russian and North Korean situation, this is extremely fascinating, in a cruel way.
2:57
i cant help but feel so bad for that korean man.
you can see the anxiety and fear the guy has just for being asked those questions.
its sad to think even being asked could get him suspected of treason .
This is a freaking amazing series. The Russian, the drunks, the cursing, the music, the dog running after the train. It's like a comedy episode.
the 14 yr old cop.
Where is the dog?
Except you risk severe punishment/imprisonment if caught.
You forgot about the dude with the chainsaw. lol
Seriously, I love how a random cop they met on the train decides to help them out and tag along while at the same time the modern equivalent of the KGB is trying to spy on them LOL
I swear this documentary sounds like a TV show so far. Drunk russians on a hot-ass train, being followed around by the FSB, now they are going to a North Korean work camp with a cop that wanted to tag along. This is hilarious

The 14yo looking police officer kills me every time, what a great dude :D
this whole documentary feels more like a sacha baron cohen style documentary.
0:53 casual Russian with a chainsaw
Came looking for that comment!
Don't you mean gasoline shaver?
He just wants to cut some trees...
It isn't a chainsaw..
@@lauralishes1 What do you mean it isn't a chainsaw, it is very obviously.. a chainsaw
Poor dog missed his train =(
+pipuk3 Thats Hachi!!
+MrHoudini I like that book
hachi=dog
Yeah it cost me 40 bucks
why?
That dude with a chainsaw, the cops that decided to go with them, and the dog that is trying to chase the train. This is epic.
So a white guy, a Jew, a Korean, and a Russian cop walk into a bar...
😂
(Not trying to be racist, just an interesting and diverse combination of people in this group.)
Reminds me of Jojo's bizzare adventure in a way. A French, An Egyptian, an American, half American and half Japanese, and a Japanese on an adventure.
John Fergus Experience reminds me of my 6th grade friend group a white guy a Mexican a Puerto Rican a Asian and a Russian
You mean :the Russian teenager cop, who is actually a FSB agent walked into a bar
@@jennylee9183 So... It's basically "Vice's Bizzare Adventure" in a sense?
@@muhammaddzhulfikar2778 Vice's Bizarre Adventure: Korea Crusaders
That cops fucking hat.
That fucking hat.
Amazing.
+Jordan Johnson the bigger, the more authority!
I bet that russian kid cop was bored as fuck and that's why he decided to go with the crew. Seems like a nice guy tho
on rather do his duty and get on screen with millions of watchers?
3:43
At 3:58 he makes a special effort to stand in front of Kim il Sung because in the last Vice north Korea documentary he was yelled at for standing in front of a painting of Kim in a museum.
Love how at 3:50 he intentionally stands in front of Kim Il Sung
0:53 random guy with a chainsaw. Nothing creepy there.
that's russia for you
just salesman
People called loggers use chainsaws for work.
kira0080 In soviet russia handguns are for pussy we carry chainsaw... FOR MOTHER RUSSIA
+kira0080 how else are you going to get wood to heat your home? an axe?
The cop tagged along like he doesn't give a fuck about his job and just go travel with a complete stranger like a boss.
In Russia, the job doesn't control you, you control the job. #JustRussianThings
Lol yeah, I think it's because he's just the drunk police? I don't know, but it's fucking hilarious. I love this series.
forrest225 Its funny how they teach him how to say " I love you" haha.
Yeh but Putin thinks he is controlling the job by taking bribes and allowing people to murder one another, he will be most displeased when he realises this cop was most likely taking money and revealing to the world how fucking backwards Russia is at the same time to an extent which many did not previously realise.
protractman this is why russians are bad asses...so full of personalities
protractman What of a fucked imbecile you, sir are.
1:36
Teen cop. Quite relieving... and hat bigger than his head makes him even more scary.
He's a young man, not a teen.
The fact that a cop just joins your adventure is so awesome
That cop was super chill
rofl I like how he just randomly tagged along. I'd like to think he wasn't bribed
just think that all those people from some deep siberia, got on screen where millions of people will see them, and most of those people knew that.
so just like that Hi murica girl they just trolled the murican and a jew showing him around.
he is paid in vodka
yeah like ACAB but exclude that Russian dude
"The north koreans don't want us in the camp" I could have told you that for free
damn ur 2 years older now
North Koreans were let them to the camp. But journalists started asking them stupid and provoking questions. Like those one “what could happen if labors would run to South Korea?” Like if they don’t know answers. Like they if those guys would give wrong answer, they might get killed. Of course they won’t let them in after such questions.
@@walhallw7436 yeah, that'd be like if Shane asked a tower guard at a US prison what they would do if they saw an inmate jumping over the fence. the answer should be obvious. not very compelling journalism going on here from this bastion of western propaganda that is vice news
I love how chaotic this series is it's like a movie
Getting to the story was half the story. Great video guys! What I love about Vice News is they legit have to put themselves at risk to get to story. That's real journalism right there.
Looking at a North Korean speak Russian is very strange.
Liri 👽-"Candice Debebe.....Trust me I'm not use to all Asians speaking different languages (besides English); because it sounds so fucked up. [same goes for all non-english speaking people as well]"
I will tell you more. He speaks it almost without accent (the camp boss).
my dad is south korean but speaks dutch as a native people look at him like wtf
not really. The USSR after all created North Korea. Kim ILL Sung was fluent
I'm wondering if it's just because of the different language that he seems/sounds far more relaxed and laid-back than North Koreans usually do in these sorts of situations with foreigners in other stuff I've seen. Could also be because he's not in North Korea, or because he's not any sort of official spokesperson who's been trained to speak in a certain way.
Not going to check into hotel so they don't alert the KGB....oh how about we take the "friendly" police along the way as guide....brilliant >_
I think you spelled "bullshit" wrong. Js.
Remember when vice did cutting edge amazing journalism?
The cop is just finishing some side quests
It really makes you feel sorry for the north koreans being fed all these lies and not knowing the way life should be lived... Poor guys
+sam brennan in all fairness your way of life is no more "right" then theirs are, in fact from their perceptive your the one living a false life, so who can say who is right?
Well im free to move from where ever i want when i want, i can get any type of haircut i wish, i can pray to any religion i wish, i can earn as much money as i want, i can vote to a party that donest boycott the votes and always get in power :')
yes but that does not inherently make you right, i don't give a shit what rights you have, my point is you don't get to say that your countries lifestyle is the right lifestyle. your original comment, said"the way life SHOULD be lived" who the fuck do you think you are to say that you know how life should be lived, the north Korean life is not anyless right then yours
+TheAemon2 why are you so fucking upset about it?
celestielsigh because it annoys me how people say that other countries are wrong or that their people are mistreated, noone is in any position to judge another country.
2:16 LOL Shane Smith from "Canada".
well, he is canadian
It sounds pretty much like the german: "Shane Smith aus Kanada".

@BxxDxx Hoodoo That was way before the ban..
Vice has some of the purest forms of journalism I have ever seen. Dear goodness the humanity is just wonderfully pure and real
They really need to get back to this.
What a ballin' hat that police officer has!
I want it
I want it too
FSB standard issue
Eastern bloc law enforcement have the best hat game.
The hat looks a little small tho..i think he needs the next size up !
I wonder if He (Shane) gave any thought to the fact that he inadvertently ratted out the lady at the hotel who tipped him off about the secret police.
Today vice recommend me this episode, absolutely hilarious, LOVE EVERYTHING IN THIS DOCUMENTARY!
This was a bomb ass doc. For some reason, one part that hit me was the way the guy reacted when asked what happened to ppl that try to escape. You could see the heaviness on his mind before he answered.
"So we stayed in an apartment where the water smelled like gasoline"....lmao. Good grief!
maybe it was gasoline, and their ladas drive on pure water.
damn ur 7 years older
Thank you so much youtube for not including part 4 in the suggestions. Now I can have heaps of fun sifting through hundreds of vice videos to find part 4. THANK YOU SO MUCH!
#firstworldproblems
annotation at bottom right
FlyGuyGaming I haven't seen an annotation in over a year. I have them enabled but they never show up.
+bukueOner OR you could use the search bar and be done with it in 5 seconds.
OR you could just search.. "North korean labor camp part 4"
The look on that guys face when he asked about traitors fleeing to south korea. 🤐lets not talk about that. 😂🤣
I always worry for people in such videos (the cop, the north korean workers etc.). There's quite a high chance they could face repercussions. I hope none have had any problems. If the person knows the risk but still chooses to appear then that's their choice and I respect their sacrifice to get important stories told. It's the ones who don't make that choice that we should be particularly careful to make anonymous (something that can be hard to do. Just blurring someone's face often isn't enough. You can use other identifiers to narrow it down.)
This is still one of the best series of the Vice or any Journalism and I miss the idea of Shane and Simon doing things together.
I have watched this so many times and I still wonder how old that cop really is? ... And later on what happened to the Fish?
The north Korean guy when he was talking about betrayal he's face was just like lol fuck no
Bro I love how chill that cop is like he has nothing better to do!
I love vice so much and I can’t wait to one day work for them
0:50
5 minutes later the chainsaw massacre begun.
Lol
First time I ever seen a Korean speak Russian. I've seen it all!
This is the most entertaining series ive ever seen swear to god
I hope the cop is doing okay. He should be graduating high school around this time.
😂😂 I lol'd when shane said 'we're bringing a cop so we look more official' with a shot of the kid looking like he just left his first day of the police academy
I feel like you guys publish a lot of information that might put people that help you in danger.
vice dont care
Lol why they in danger
Because if they know they helped outsiders , or do something illegal they’ll get ooofed by NK
You think the FSB DIDN'T send the *Russian Police Officer* ?
Lmao ur profile picture perfectly fits
4:19 Dog missed its train
so did the cameraman
“We’re going to bring a cop with us to look more official” 1:35
I must say this Simon guy is really good at keeping the cool I would have totally lost my temper with that touchy Russian guy
03:13 I love the translator guy being like fuck off with this bullshit
The only way to drink this is while watching vodka. Ya dig?
seeing that north korean speaking fluent russian was trippy
Dude remember when Vice actually had awesome AND hilarious journalism like this
How do you know the cop is not from FSB also, offering so kindly to help?
I don't think he offered his help, I'm pretty sure they bribed him but didn't want to say it out loud.
or he just went with them because he felt safer next to them? lol
irony
This is probably my third time watching this. Won't be my last!
Andrew Jones same lol
Me too.
This music in the beginning in the background made me laugh at the whole situation. insane what music can do
Nice to see Simon doing more chill stuff in this series compared to "Russian Roulette"
He's my fav reporter
0:35 "so we just got to Tinder some say it's the worst town in Russia" xd
Funny to we simon as a non vice affiliated reporter when today I see him as practically the face of vice news.
This is the funniest series I’ve ever seen 🤣🤣🤣
The allies he made on the journey are epic
It's like a video game where you meet someone, you'll use his skill to finish a chapter, then BOOM his part of the party for the next chapter.
When vice was good
vice wasnt ever really 'good'....they were different for a bit and quite a few alternative media outlets look 'decent' at first glance. i mean, if any other journalists were drunk the majority of the time during their documentaries, who would have let that shit slide? only with vice.....and only because they were 'hip' for awhile.
fun fact: vice created hipsters....so blame them for that too. ;-)
vice makes educational videos fun idk how im just so focused on it lmao.
Somehow this popped up on my recommended and I am not disappointed.
that cop was actually really hot lol
Tbh most likely he was from fsb actually
It was the uniform huh?
cute af no lie
Should've just done a documentary on the train ride!
This needs to be made into a book or a tv series or a movie, please
I LOVE VICE 😂❤❤❤❤❤❤
These guys are crazy! Dodging the police and going to work camps?!
i know im not the only one thaats all like hey that russian cop guy whats his story i want to see a series on him
1:46 it sounds like the beginning melody from the Russian theme from world at war, wonder if it's a folk song or something
It is an epic telling of an epic journey
I live near that lake on map :)
Cool
Max Werner how are you guys watching this then?
1:30 A cop that we're going to bring with us to look more official xD That russian cop makes it look more amateur and even derpy xd
Best part: at :53, the freelance journalist is walking with is head in his phone past a guy holding a chainsaw talking to someone in a car. The head movement from cell phone to chain saw is a beautiful thing to see.
Wonderful , you can easily enter this kind of place
I used to live in moscow and when I was in my school bus I saw a north korean embassy car go by lol
Who filmed the part at 4:12? Did they leave the poor camera man there?
it's a different train
I was wondering the same thing
They obviously just filmed another train leaving. Or they may have used the footage of their train leaving when they arrived in Tynda.
Dudes got main character energy in a Bethesda game, just makes followers everywhere he goes and it looks like such a rag tag mixed team
lol this is gold! love how the cop got dragged along, thanks to the drunken teen! Knowing this guy heads VICE, VICE is in good hand :D
This whole thing is quite funny for some reason 😂
I love how the main guy get himself into the most fucked up situations and just laughs and says "hahaha well fuck"
I miss this Vice so much
