I rig up a classic BMCC 2.5k that can easily switch from shoulder to tripod. Nice and compact so I can keep my arms close to my body when shoulder mounting. I zip tied a LANC rec start stop button to one of the hand grips and another to the top of the rig near the top handle. That way I can easily start recording no matter the configuration. Works a treat. Great with the Hollyland Mars 300 Pro wireless video system to send an image to a wireless directors monitor. I don't have a viewfinder though, I've yet to find an affordable, high quality EVF that works well with the BMCC. Thanks Shane for your knowledge and skill sharing!
I recently learned how INSANELY expensive this stuff is. I haven’t looked yet, but I bet something as mundane as that shoulder pad is almost a grand or some crazy shit.
I'm a super indie film maker on Stingray Films and I love watching these videos! They give me a clear view on how the top dogs do it, and get me thinking on how I can do something similar! Keep it up!!
Sometimes you need both 15mm & 19mm rods; eg, C-Motion requires 15mm, but a cinezoom lens would require 19mm for support. I use 15/19mm adapter for the smaller accessories, as needed.
I love how the soundtrack builds slowly of this. Can you tell me what song it is? Also I use 15mm rods. I shoot handheld as well on a shoulder rig. Gonna start talking about it on my channel. Im loving the 19mm rods too learning from this video. Thank you for taking the time to do this. I learned so much. Im typing this as I watch by the way and Im really feeling the soundtrack to this. So yea holler back at me on that.
(replying to a year old comment) When I was using the Ursa Mini I had, rigged up it was about 23 pounds (10 ish KG), balanced properly you can honestly go for a good while, unbalanced, it's pretty much a game of how strong you are.
How do you rig up your camera? :)
Just started using 19" rods on my rig, can never go back to 15.
I have a nice zacuto rig for my GH5 anamorphic setup. I really love it!
nowadays hollywood is a rubbish hole ... crysis of genre
too broke

Me. Having a $20 Amazon tripod 🤣
It's cool, Shane's a big dude, lots of experience etc but jeez - that flip and catch at 4.39 sent my heart racing and I'm not even an AC.

I was recently as AC on a comercial set where the Director brought his own 2500Euro shoulder pat...so yeah
It crazy, I believe that a O'Connor 2575 head is like 40k
2:04 Shane calls the Oconner a Cartoni LOL

Lol that Benny Hill theme. Glad they're having fun with it in the edit. Thanks big dog
gotta love a beefy, girthy rod
nowadays hollywood is a rubbish hole ... crysis of genre
What VCT baseplate/19mm shoulder mount system is this you’re using here? I’d love to step up from 15mm.

Thanks for sharing your setup further! I just switched over to VCT for my personal rig and couldn't be happier.
sync steps! genius
Thanks for the video! I really like the handheld work at 9:14
Are you the cinematographer of the first episodes of Into the Badlands?
Yes he shot the first season!
Just got you at Hot Rod cameras and felt in love what and how you saying! Nice to meet you, Shane! Now im your student)
I love this channel so much!
you know this guy is a baller when he films all this right next to a swimming pool
Thank you!
"It really comes to metrics..."
uses imperial system
he uses the word correctly.. "metric" = a method of measuring something
@@rickjacobs2059 ...it's a joke, son. I've been laughing about it for the past 5 minutes 😅
Im assuming these tripod setups cost more than my house haha
I so would've loved to have a Cartoni Tripod! But our film School sent us the Manfrotto Tripod! The newer version!
1 INCH IS A BIG DEAL
6:54 - That's what she said.
What are the details of the shoulder rig please, I'm looking at purchasing one and I like this one?
Shane I'm looking for a solid base kit for a Red Epic Dragon shoulder rig and those rod handles, where can I find them?
Just get Steadygum and you are good to go. Check it out for yourself on the internet or at the NAB and IBC trade shows
it sounded like the clapper board loading
much better than the old days when you film makers used 35mm film cans sd is much easer now
"Europeans love big ass rods"
Insight no one else can give u but real dp's
how about... just glue a little foam on that snap... to avoid snap sound? ;D
Are those movcam grips rubber or leather?
He reminds me of Chuck McGill
"An inch is a BIG deal " ..that's what she said

What camera did you use to film this. Looks great, I saw it was a RED. P.S. the motion blur looks butter smooth
RED handheld and RED on ReadyRig Gimbal; I'm guessing RED Epic-W with older 5" monitor, but could be Epic Dragon. See for yourself: 5:15
I've got a girthy rod too!
6:55 it's all about girth 😭😭😭
That tripod and head costs more than my whole rig lmao. Nice setup.
The ladies agree. An inch IS a big deal.
The only thing I can afford in Shane's channel is a freakin' shoulder cushion...
Wait for Friday... we have a video coming dealing with lighting on a budget!
Great! The longest, most profitable commercial on line in the history of film! Period!
1 inch is a big deal, love the girth
"It comes down to metrics!" Immediately measures it in inches 😅
All jokes aside, great info thanks
This title has VERY little, if any, to do with this actual video. SMH
LOL. I would imagine the last thing most independent filmmakers on You Tube need to worry about is the click made by a Cartoni.
I love this video Shane, but I feel like it's a filmmaker's infomercial. I kept looking for the 1-800 number.
7:04 Most girls like "Big ass rods"...
01:57 .... who else hears a click?
the fact that he had that expensive ass camera so close to the pool gave anxiety.
That feeling when you can rely on expensive tripod 😂
I was more worried about taking a step backwards.
6:26 funny, now a days they just choose a FX3 and call it a day. 🙃😁
Director: Who the f clicked their Cartoni?!?!
Seeing expensive cameras near water always makes me cringe.
the pool is rreally distracting .Every time he does exagerrated hand motions i feel like the gear would end up in the water ..lol...great vid though
Can a cameraman really have 12kg on their shoulder all day? Realistically how many minutes before you want to put it down?

@@mragrayson 2 years later...
Yes exactly - if you're aligned it's negligible, but even slightly off kilter and you feel the burn
"Really comes to metrics,.... Only nine inches" :D :D :D
That's 22.86 centimeters, for all those watching in the 'Metric' part of the world ;)
finally the 'talians figured out how to beat ze germans and that o'conner clan! Oh, the Lambo and ferraris are pretty darn tutto cool too....
Video title about shoulder mount, talks the first 3:18 minutes about fluid heads...
jeez this is so ridiculus
