    Jefferson Electric knocks out most of its solar installations in one day; but don’t be fooled, it takes a large team of diverse electricians to make it happen. Installing the solar array requires precision measurement to provide a crisp finish and lots of team coordination & muscle to get unruly, window-sized panels to their spots on the roof. Trenching and long, underground wire runs require knowledge of the National Electrical Code and skill in minimally invasive landscaping. Connecting power to the inverters and electrical panel inside the home requires technical training and wisdom dealing with high-voltage DC power from solar. Here’s how we break up those responsibilities at Jefferson and joyfully provide sustainable power for the Indianapolis region.

    Nice job. Its interesting that all the vids I watched only a couple show some one actually using a torque wrench on the rail, panel, and roof fasteners. Those using a trq wrench were diy'ers. IronRidge specs these values in the engineered data sheets.

    @ 28:41 it sucks to see how these panels don't line up at all..... As a stickler for plumb straight and square being almost as important as "proper torque specs", I was happy and impressed to see the rails being squared using the 3,4,5 rule and work being done on the ground before being brought on to the roof but its hard to ignore i think the final installation wasn't done to the best of anyones ability. To give benefit to doubt... its easy to look at a final project and criticize when we don't know the actual situation at hand. Just my thoughts !

    Joel really professional job you have a great team great idea in pulling a spare cable. It would have been great to go through the selective coordination issues trip current curve assessments between the breakers and fuses. I wonder if you could have used ferrules if these were fine stranded cables in the connector blocks in the inverters?

    man after going through the trouble of getting a nice trencher out to dig a really nice trench to bury those individual conductors directly and not in conduit should be a crime lmao lord have mercy

    I work for a solar company aswell I would recommend a modal bonding clip to bond all the array for grounding so you will need to only run #6 to one rail instead of hitting all rails made by rbi

    Wouldn’t it be safer to put in conduit to protect cables? Or sand to protect cable from rocks?

    I have an Enphase solar system with battery backup/nighttime supplement. Each panel has it's own micro-inverter, so there is 240 volts AC coming off the roof to the combiner/interrupter panel.

    A year ago this would have been lost on me, in the past seven months, I’ve gone from concept to fruition. Installed 9.6kw of solar DIY, as extravagant as the budget allowed, (penny pinching cheap). It’s a 20’ x 30’ covered parking area, using solar panels as the roof. I couldn’t afford optimizing the system, I had to go with used panels, but all the other components are new, used IronRidge Railings and components. If I can do it, anyone can do it, know your limitations and get help or educational assistance from your vendors. It is off-grid, it is not fast and loose, it is following code. I have another 2.4kw in process for a 24k btu mini-split that is ac/dc, anything helps when you are in Arizona. I really like your system, setup and process for solar.

    You should have used silicone caulk around and in the hole under the roof boot. That is just an insurance second layer of waterproofing that costs pennies and will prevent a callback in the future.

    Ground wires with two wires in one lug usually never legal due to next to none small lugs are listed for two conductors. Break down and spend another dollar to purchase lugs with two approved holes.

    I think if the out building didn't have a sub panal I would of suggested installing one they probably will want electricity in that building at some point expesialy if your trenching than you can wire your pv to the to the sub panal also emphases micro inverters are the way to go

    I am thinking about installing solar as a DIY project. As I do my research the best thing I can say is do your research. Its important for you as both the owner of the house and the installer to know and understand all of your equipment. I have been learning a lot from you tube videos such as this one that demonstrates the attention to detail you must have in order to have a successful project.

      @@ElectricProAcademy Looks like 15x4 panels, 60 panels, 72 cell ones, likely about 425 watts each? Just over a 25kW array? My arrays add up to just under a third of that and I'm in Michigan making 9mWh per year. My guess is this array does 30mWh per year in production.

    Why 3 knife blades and not 1 fused and bonded knife blade from the line side tap, to an equipment grounded combiner panel to feed each inverter with over current protected breakers?

    Had many failures with Solaredge? We stopped using them due to so many issues.

    Looks like you did a good job but as a roofer, I will tell you when installing that type of boot you must point it upwards like a pyramid if that makes any sense to you

    microinverters are the way to go, these string inverters are last years tech

      @@ElectricProAcademy companies like Tesla still use a single inverter, I think it's mostly due to keeping cost down. From other companies we had quotes from (some which used micro inverters) they stated the micros are better at managing individual panel degradation so as to not affect the total power generation. (that was my take-away)

    No mention of kwh output? Cost of an array like this & Years to recoup the money outlay.
    No batteries for storage so all power runs the meter backwards?

    I cringed when I saw the striping of the wire at time location 29:37 please teach him not to strip wire that way since the tool cuts into the copper!! that leads to future broken strands.

    Common mistake that direct burial cables have to be 24 in. 300.5 actually says 18 in. For single family dwellings and 24 in for roadways parking lots and driveways that are commercial. 1 and 2 family driveways its 18 in.
    After reading the code again I have to say I was wrong on this one.

      In Michigan it was definitely 18" for my conduit covered electrical between my house and garage, 24" if I used direct burial wiring.

    How come guy is not using a torque driver to secure wires as required by last two code cycles? If you do not have the proper tools should not be performing work.
