This 40-year anniversary reminds me I was 8 years old when I got my Commodore 64!
Yeah i was 9 in 1984 when i got mine
I was 8 years in 1982 when we got a VIC-20 in the house for x-mas, and 10 when I had saved up for a C64.

This takes me back to 1983 when I got my C64...It changed my life. I learned BASIC and knew from then on that I wanted to program computers for a living.

What a great 10 years to be a C64 fan. So many top quality games, and am sure the future will continue to be just as exciting.
Also looking forward to the up and coming C64 "Alien" Documentary. One of my favorite movie series.

@@BastichB64K wow u were a baby at 8 getting a c64 got mine at release in 82 for Christmas it was the best Christmas as a kid but I was 13 at the time got the 1541 disk drive and the for my birthday a few months later got the 1702 monitor and the vic modem I was in computer heaven then the following year in 84 I got most 802 printer and since I was working with my uncle for the summer I bought an extra disk drive so within 3 years had a terrific setup I had a better setup than my school did I didn't see a C64 till I was in high school in sep of 84 by then I already had a complete setup with double drives monitor printer and vicmodem from 82 to 90 I was still using my c64 plus I had a Colecovision in 83 and had the heavy sixer since I was 8 when the Atari vcs first was released that's why I'm a big retro guy now at 53 I lived through it and I wouldn't have wanted it any other way had great fun sleepovers with friends and all nighters playing games in weekends and during the summer

Amazing what they can squeeze out this old hardware. If titles like this were coming out in the early 90s my C64 would have been in use a heck of lot longer.
Yeah they really know how to tap the potential now although the games in the early 90's are still amazing

Why is retrogaming so popular now? I think it's for several reasons. Nostalgia, for sure. But also because I think a lot of people are kind of getting tired of the same first person shooter games on newer consoles and miss these old systems that have their own personalities _because_ of their limitations. Plus, kids from back then that had little money are now full grown adults with jobs and a bank account and can buy all those neat things they always wanted for their systems. I just think it's great that you can not only buy new software for these old systems, but new hardware as well! And that goes for everything from the Atari 2600 to the Commodore 64, ZX Spectrum and everything in between.

I like to wait till I find a really interesting part of a video before I hit Like and the Arcade Attract Music Video got me. Really enjoyed the list! All of these titles were unknown to me and I really liked what I saw! I wonder how many more C64 games were released since this video was produced. Crazy that there are still new games being released for a system that stopped production over 30 years ago.

This was a fantastic watch, and appreciated as a C64 fan but im waaaay out of touch with the scene regarding new games (year 2000+), so i appreciate seeing what has been released and will certainley be following alot of these games up for purchase

@@BastichB64K Ah, there was a typo there. I meant i was out with anything beyond the year 2000. So I'm appreciative of the exposure and seeing what is done with the hardware, 40 years on. Seems like yesterday I was playing ultima ii with awe and wonder.
Hey B! On Soulless II, I totally get what Saul was going for. Reminds me of the Metroid type atmosheric type stull which enhances the the gameplay in a more cerebral way. I know what you mean though, although I find the music very fitting. I love that game. Im going to play it today after work in fact. Peace bro!! Or shall I say, Cheers!

Seriously our 64 goes from strength to strength.
Some great choices in your top 20 and those that just missed out.
The only change is make is to position 1 and 2, I'm a shoot em up fan and Soulforce really is something else.

Thanks. It's a little hard to search for an overview of modern games for old systems. So this came along at just the right time. Hearing your accent, are you originally from Kwazulu Natal? I'm in Cape Town. Recently became intrigued by the retro computing movement. I'm making a start a learning a bit of 6502 assembly language because I never got into programming when we had a C64 from '84-'89 or so - and these 8-bit machines are so understandable at a chip level.

Great video, some impressive looking games there - the only one i have played is Galencia which is very good especially for its playabality. One thing that is evident is that their appears to be a lack of new sports games coming out on the C64 - I wonder if developers are too shy due to believing that any sports game will be 2nd rate - soccer has miscroprose soccer, golf has leaderboard etc etc or maybe they are too time consuming ?
Ive noticed certain genres are lacking any titles as well , sports and racing are the main ones that get virtually no love

Yeah it never gets the respect it deserves , its brilliant . There is no best C64 game.. its really what ever is most nostalgic to you and mine is the Last Ninja .
So I finally played through Wormhole and it grew on me big time. I really like it. Simple addictive gameplay once you get the mechanics down. Ya its fun!!

I cannot believe that when portraying BOMBERLAND you forgot to mention BOMB MANIA, which came out in 1997. The 4-player-adapter that you mentioned was actually designed for this particular game. Shame on you that you missed that! ;-D
You also should have mentioned that you can play with 4 computer opponents with AI (typing in "CPUPLAYER" as password and pressing "c" in the player selection screen),
or that you can play all regular levels with a companion simultaneously (typing "COOPERATIVE" as password).
To me BOMBERLAND is the best game of them all and one of the very few games that has a 5-player-simultaneous mode. There is no game conversion of it's kind and it is such a shame that it did not come out in the early 90s along with Dyna Blasters (Amiga). That would have been a strong competition for all the other systems, if it had been delivered with the 4-player-adapter. But at least we finally have it now. Did you know that it is based on a spectrum game that was developed almost 40 years ago (in 1983)?! Cheers

I clearly read the title and everything, but you mention BUG BOMBER as being the last game of it's kind before BOMBERLAND hit the shelves, but you ought to have mentioned BOMB MANIA (1997), which was more popular in Germany I guess. But the 4-player-adapter was actually made for that game! Your video was great nonetheless, of course!

Another game I would like to mention, is a port of a rather old game from 2016. In my opinion it gets overlooked due to it being a port of a rather old Apple II game. But I quite enjoyed the 2016 port of Akalabeth - World of Doom, despite it being a rather primitive port of a very primitve RPG
Yeah that is a good port , the original came out in 1979-1980 i believe ... The original version of Ultima basically by Richard Garriot
Hm... missing point-and-click- and text-adventure in the list somehow. There have been various releases the past years and some of them are quite good (thinking of Curse of Rabenstein for example)
Like i said i only included games I've played there are still a lot i haven't ... Way too many C64 releases during that time , thx for watching

I absolutely cannot figure out the accent. South Africa perhaps?? Sorry, but it's been driving me nuts. It's the equivalent to a deep south accent in the U.S mixed with a British accent but from a Brit that's been in Australia too long.
