Must of been only c64 player that disliked all the last ninja games, but loved games like Mr Do, superpipline, crystal castles, paradriod, Uridium, Delta, Spy v Spy, Wizball
Oh, only one of my favourites made the top 20. Maybe I was to young to appreciate many of these games, but see that a lot of my older brothers favourites made the list. Here are my top ten. 1. IK+ 2. Kickstart II 3. Decathlon ( The Joystick killer ) 4. Donald Ducks Playground 5. Outrun 6. Giana Sisters 7. Barbarian 8. Commando 9. Super Pipeline 10. Delta Thanks for a nice video, those commercials were awsome haha.
Games that would be in my Top 20 list: International Karate +, Smash TV, Zack McKracken and the Alien Mindbenders, Where in the World Is Carmen Sandiego?, Archon, Barbarian, Samurai Warrior and Saboteur.
Pleasant surprise to see my comment about Ghouls'n Goblins! Thank you! As for the list, it's really nice. I am still challenged and troubled by the isometric view and pixel perfect jumps of The Last Ninja 2 (and the series in general), but the soundtrack... What an amazing soundtrack it is, indeed!!! I could've remembered Maniac Mansion and Impossible Mission, by the way... They are two real favorites of mine on C64.
I forgot how many hours I spent playing Ghostbusters, never actually winning the game. It's great to see it and others I played make the list, such as Blue Max and Beach Head. It's a shame Zenji didn't make the cut, as its gameplay and music still haunt my brain to this day.
Growing up, I had all these games in my library and many more - Good times! I agree that the Commando soundtrack is phenomenal, but The Last Ninja 2 has always been my favourite in terms of music. Thanks to everyone who voted and to you for compiling this list for the C64 fans out there. Cheers 🥂
So interesting that Bard's Tale ranked, but no Ultima game. There were a number of big CRPG franchises on the C64, but there was never any question about which one had the most prestige and was the most anticipated by C64 gamers.
Yeah, definitely a hair shocking to see no Ultima representation... or any of the SSI Gold Box AD&D games of the day. Pool of Radiance would have gotten a vote from me, if I voted in there. :-)
Some really awesome games included: Pirates!; Heart of Africa; Silent Service; Super Huey; Stealth Fighter; Elite; and many more that required strategy. A different genre, really, not included here.
Its amazing really, you could pick almost any of 300 C64s games as a top 20 and it would be hard to argue against their merits. It would just come down to what genre you may favour. I didnt like point and click adventures so the wouldnt make my list but I know a lot of people do like them. Surprised Elite didnt feature and I would have games like Bubble Bobble, IK+, Turrican/II, Koronis Rift, The Sentinel and Rescue on Fractulus in my list
Nice list. Brought back a lot of memories. Was kinda surprised to not see BUBBLE BOBBLE in the top20. I loved that game. I have two less likely favourites as well. BC's QUEST FOR TIRES was silly and I loved it. But I also had a copy of KATAKIS, which was the best version of R-TYPE on the C64. (The R-type port was shite) There was a motocross game that let you make your own levels as well which was great fun. So many brilliant games. Cheers for making this list.
British top 20 tape arcade games. American top 20 disk games, SIMs and role-playing, like F-17 Stealth Fighter, Gunship and the Gold Box series of RPGs!
Rick Dangerous, Salamander, Yie Ar Kung Fu, To Hell and Back, The Last Ninja are my top picks. Edit : forgot to mention Karnov and Ghouls n Ghosts of course!
I'm trying to find a commodore 64 game Don't remember the name of it It had a guy with a red balloon in it I remember that and I remember there was a couple caves in the game and it said AC/BC on the caves It was kind of like a RPG game It was really fun Love that game I just wish I remember the name of it If anyone knows the name of this game please respond I would really appreciate it
Really not sure, but the only game that comes to mind is Lazy Jones. It has several mini games where some feature caves and one with a red balloon. Not a RPG though.
This list is pretty awful, almost random. Something is wrong either with your methodology or the user base. Mediocre arcade stuff like Arkanoid, Bombjack, Ghostbusters, Attack of the Mutant Camels, Beach-Head, Buggy Boy, Drop Zone have absolutely no business in a "Greatest of all time" list. They were badly dated already when the C64 was as its peak and never really that good to begin with. Who in their right mind can prefer any of these to the likes of Pirates!, Defender of the Crown, Ultima V, M.U.L.E, Elite, Microprose Soccer, Nebulus, Antiriad, Katakis, Pool of Radiance and many, many more classic masterpieces?
These are the games that over 500 people voted for, can't really argue with a democratic vote. Everyone's opinion is different so a list such as this is never going to please everyone. For example, none of the games you mentioned would make my own C64 list except maybe MicroProse Soccer.
50 - Toy Bizarre
49 - Zak McKracken
48 - Last Ninja
47 - Archon

34 - Pirates!
33 - OutRun
32 - Flimbo's Quest

5 - Commando
4 - Ghouls 'n' Ghosts
3 - Buggy Boy
2 - Dropzone
1 - The Last Ninja 2
I am surprised that Turrican (1 or 2) is missing.
Must of been only c64 player that disliked all the last ninja games, but loved games like Mr Do, superpipline, crystal castles, paradriod, Uridium, Delta, Spy v Spy, Wizball
Would have expected IK+ in a top 20. But really nice to see some early 80s games as well.
Thanks for including my comment on the Ghostbusters entry.
It's a great list, every game worthy of its inclusion.
It was a pleasure, thanks for taking part!

The sacred armour of atriad.

Zenji is such an underrated game, I had the Spectrum version as a kid, but still play the even better Atari 8-bit version now.
Beating the Marshmallow Man and getting the bonus from the bank, for the first time, was quite a remarkable sensation. I managed it a few times only.
Indeed, I eventually beat it on the Spectrum back in the day.
Growing up, I had all these games in my library and many more - Good times! I agree that the Commando soundtrack is phenomenal, but The Last Ninja 2 has always been my favourite in terms of music. Thanks to everyone who voted and to you for compiling this list for the C64 fans out there. Cheers 🥂
Jumpman and Jumpman Jr.
Matrix (Gridrunner 2).
Also, I spent most of the summer of 1983 playing Ultima II.
Last Ninja had the greatest soundtrack, it was a favourite of my Brother and I when we were kids!
Some really awesome games included: Pirates!; Heart of Africa; Silent Service; Super Huey; Stealth Fighter; Elite; and many more that required strategy. A different genre, really, not included here.
They were big hits in disk-based America!
You just listed some heavy-hitters that I ADORED back in the day. Great list. Elite and Pirates! are possibly my two favorite of all time on the C64.
Thanks - and nice to see Bard's Tale in there. I would have thought Elite and International Karate+ would have also been...
Neither got a single vote, which really surprised me, especially in the case of IK+.
No Elite? Guess I should have voted.

Nice list. A lot of great games. I would probably have added Bubble bobble and Salamander to the list...and Outrun :)
All three of those made the top 40.
(The R-type port was shite)
There was a motocross game that let you make your own levels as well which was great fun. So many brilliant games. Cheers for making this list.
The game you are trying to think of is Kikstart II, an absolute classic.
How is there no Turrican 1 or 2, mind blowing
So many childhood memories
Just bought a c64c and using the kung-fu flash cartidge which works very well..Just populating it with games at the moment, some work some don't.
British top 20 tape arcade games. American top 20 disk games, SIMs and role-playing, like F-17 Stealth Fighter, Gunship and the Gold Box series of RPGs!
Excellent work on this video sir. The C64 hold a special place in my heart for sure.
Couldnt get past... l think: level 4 in Thrust, level 18 in Boulderdash
Rick Dangerous, Salamander, Yie Ar Kung Fu, To Hell and Back, The Last Ninja are my top picks.
Edit : forgot to mention Karnov and Ghouls n Ghosts of course!
To hell and back was a classic, my buddy solved it back in the day with no cheat codes or videos
The tape extension was shite. No saves. I had to leave my c64 on when I went to school so I could save my progress.
Bomb Jack is in there?? Facebook might not be the best source for voting, should have included large C64 forums, e.g. forum64 or lemon...😢
Facebook groups are much more popular than forums these days.
@@TheLairdsLair Not so much on the C64 or ZX side of things, i wonder...
where is elite?
Way down the list because hardly anyone voted for it.
Oh yeah, this will be good!
🎅🏻😇 P.S. What are the greatest 20 Atari 8-bit games? 😜🕹
I'll no doubt do that in the future!
@@TheLairdsLair 👍
Well done
bomb jack was dreadful on the system,
Nahhhh it had a killer soundtrack
Armalyte looks remarkably similar to Io. Was one a rebrand of the other? Or was it the same person who did both?
Totally unrelated as far as I know.
What no Turrican 2 or mayhem in monsterland
Not one person voted for Mayhem in Monsterland and Turrican 2 got just one vote.
@@TheLairdsLair How many people voted overall?
About 100 roughly
No Spy vs Spy or Gunship!
Used the computer, but never played the games.
Amazing
Firetrap

Love the C64, but, Bomb Jack lmao, terrible port. Spectrum version much better.
Bit surprised at not seeing iconic games like ELITE and Cauldron 2 in the top 20.
Elite may be the crown jewel on any system's list of the time that could run it. Beyond amazing game... especially for its day.

The C64 sucks ! With it's pathetic 1.0 MhZ CPU ! No wonder it was outsold 3 to 1` in the UK by the Spectrum.
Which one's the best selling home computer of all time again?
😂
