In Japan, they have to pixelate Ryans fingers on all the video's.
LOL. Underrated comment of the year.
@@meedily 😜
You make my day, best wishes from Russia!))
Lmao
Awesome..
Came for a bass lesson. Left with a life lesson.
The bass guitar is such a diverse instrument. Bass guitar players are underrated.
Yup. Depending on the song/skill level all you really gotta do is play the root note. Also it gets buried in the mix sometimes :(. Then here you have some next level shit lol.
So my friend is overrated
Tell that to Lars
Because we are at an all time low ;)
Tell that to Geddy Lee , and Steve Harris
those forearms can bend metal
hahhaha i rly dont know, what the heck internet?
btw thx for having my back
Tapp 's he’s in a metal band though
@@tino8442 Soften the Glare isn't metal
Plot twist them forearms are metal
Those forearms are made of adamantium and used to shred strings.
"Metallica is pop"
Greater words have been said by no one.
nobody fucks a bass quite like The Beast Martinie. Just amazing to see
Interviewer: "Lets talk about gear" Ryan: "I mean, what is 'gear' anyways"
The interviewer was actually looking and listening to Ryan. Not just sitting there anxious ready to talk again. The dude did great job... Ryan talking about being creative was just perfect. . Seriously the best Interview.... Ryan got emotional talking about his Warwick family. Beautiful ❤️... Ryan martini and John myung should make a song together!!!
I will never forget meeting Ryan and having him sign my thumb bass! Such an amazing artist and person!
kornskydiver You will never know how fucking jealous I am
Dude..your soo fucken lucky!! I love this guy!! And \MUDVAYNE/!!!🤟🤟🤟🤟🔥😈
imho Ryan is the best bass player in the whole world
correct you are
Victor Wooten would like a word with you
Maxx Doran I think they should do a track together. I think they're both the best in the world at their respective styles. Victor is the ultimate technical master. Ryan is the ultimate progressive bassist. These two are on a whole other world when it comes to bass.
Would rather see a Buckethead/Martinie collaboration personally. I think it would force a lot of progression or force a lot of people out of work.
@@asadodemierda I have no stake in this discussion but I love hearing super skilled musicians solo. who would you recommend?
It saddens me that I’ll probably never seen Mudvayne live again. However I did get to met Ryan in person and he was an awesome dude.
Never say never ;)
@@KushClarkKent Have I got some good news for you two! Mudvayne's back!
@@RaduChelariu Saw the news when I woke up! I had a feeling this day would come. I can't wait to see them live.
Your wrong lol
Well well well
I don't know much about either band, but this interview has me falling in love with this guy
Man.. Ryan makes me appreciate music so much more. So much talent.
Ryan just quoted space balls....yeah he just got super cool....he is such a great bass player...i hope he gets more famous.
Amazing bass player and human being Ryan, the reason why i fell in love with the sound of the Thumb Bass and finally get one. Soften the glare great band, hope that i can get a record someday, and off course his work with Mudvayne still one of my biggest influences :)
I'll second that.
How do you tune your Thumb these days?
As a spector bass guy..
I bet if you knew about the fight between spector and warwick you would think im here to bash.. However the thumb bass sounds is definitely a sound i enjoy. That being said they are heavy af due to the tone woods used.
Thumb and corvettes are awesome.
13:52 so humble, this guy rocks
He's a very interesting individual. Sometimes I think he's an alien xD amazing bass player! One of my absolute favorites!
I miss Mudvayne.
Ryan needs to be my dad, or brother... or literally anything. His mindset is what I believe in music and its good to hear someone so passionate and honest.
Anyone else fantasize about having a conversation with Ryan ?
No, he has been one of my superheroes since I was a young teenager wondering if bass was the right thing for me. I just turned 40 and it took until getting a bass project to rebuild last year and revisiting my old heroes like Ryan Martinie and Trevor Dunn before I realized that bass is definitely the right thing for me. Would absolutely love to talk to the guy... he reminds me of... me
16:15 When that low note comes in, that face says it all. It's a beautiful thing to play bass. So happy he's still doing his thing. Just watched his angle in the "dig" video and it brings me back to first getting the DVD and watching it over and over. Cool to see he's a human being at the end. Such a cool dude.
Have had the pleasure to meet Ryan on a few different occasions. Amazing player and an amazing person! At first he was my influence to be a better bassist, then he became my influence to become a better person as well.
Totally feel that
His new band is great but he really shined in Mudvayne
Agreed. Love everything he does but his sound in Mudvayne was ICONIC
His voice is not what I imagined.
Meshuggah Dave of course I heard him talk in the behind the scenes of Dig
Ryan the person is not what most people imagine. A way different vibe than the psychotic painted devil man he plays on TV 🤣
One of the best in my generation by far! Seen him play twice and the guy kills it on Bass!
Ryan does interviews, like he playes bass, just unique,
SO much MUDVAYNE in that intro 🤘🤘
PLEASE come back to us. We really need you guys back, we are sinking in 2020.
🤘🇺🇸MUDVAYNE 2020🇺🇸🤘
Its not happening, but i agree with ya!
Its happening :D
@@Odhil95 I'm glad to be wrong. Can't wait for a new album!
When Ryan mentioned he was just listening to Kid A, and enjoys it, my head exploded! The thought of one of my favorite musicians listening to a group of some of my other favorite musicians is just surreal. I know it happens all the time but I still get a kick out of it.
Ryan has definitely given us Ryan fans what we wanted!! Soften the glare is just perfect for me as a Ryan Martinie geek boy!!! He has taken his playing definitely to the next level,
Amazing technique, amazing style. Second to none Ryan.
Truly amazing as always. Thank you for making this video.
Loving Soften The Glare keep it up Ryan you are in my opinion The Best!!!
Fantastic interview. thank-you.
Best bass player EVER, the goat of bass players, hands down, or up, whatever. Mudvayne was the SHIOT!!
Thumbs up! Great to see Ryan rippin' it. You're awesome!
Incredible guy and incredible interview
amazing!!!!
i love the videos with ryan the best
I learned so much from this interview and it wasn't even one note. What a great dude with a brilliant mind.
what a humble man talking in there! So inspiring hearing him
Amazingly professional dude, definitely one one the best, most unique bass masters the world has seen.
Keep up the solid work Ryan, fucking love EVERYTHING you've done and probably will do!
I miss your mudvayne days, brother. Your bass line composition is off the charts. Phenomenal.
man, such an awesome interview, and not because of the questions... Ryan is such an incredibly honest and cerebral speaker that it communicates perfectly. The music speaks for itself. I'm not a big mudvayne fan, but a huge fan of Ryan, and now Soften the Glare. Such a phenomenal bassist and musician. What is the limit? Nothing! Dude, you rock, and it's almost startling how awesome and intuitive your bass playing is. Completely blows me away
Always Legendary Ryno!
Met Ryan a few years ago at a very very small club in jersey with soften the glare. Loved it.
Damn seeing Ryan get emotional, was seriously heart touching, so glad he went beyond mudvayne,
The interviewer is the most patient soul on Earth. Ryan is a spaz, which enables him to channel his energy & talent into his instrument.
Reason i play bass. Taking my time I wanna be just as good so I'm taking my time and have a good teacher.
1 year later.... I'm in 2 bands got a Epiphone Thunderbird bass.
I. Getting pretty damn good.
I learned enough theory to know what I'm doing. N timing getting pretty good.
@@alexfithero you should make videos of your progress
@@alexfithero that's awesome dude! I have a thunderbird as well. keep up the great work
@@alevandet5377 damn 3 years ago. I have a shelter stilleoto 4 now and I am playing "on time". I am ten times better then 3 years ago.
A hero not only on bass but also as a great human being.
His playing is magnificent..
He makes it sound fretless at times.
Great tone and wonderful technique..
I know what you mean about it sounding fretless... and when he actually does play fretless bass it sounds alien... like nothing I have ever heard before from a bass
@@neilpatrickhairless 💯
Ryan is a beast on Bass. Definitely one of the best bassists out there today.
Very good Interview! art is music = music is art
As a bassist and a person in general ryan is just and amazing dude quite different in his approach and take and its quite awesome and beautiful always have loved his style and sound. Phenomenal musician and guy love you Ryan Martinie.. No homo
the question @ 6:25 and the subsequent answer gave me so much more respect for Ryan than i already had (which was a metric fuckton of respect)
Been watching this interview forever,. Just realized now that the intro is from Soften the Glare's Turn Around.
AMAZING BASS PLAYER I LOVE HIM.!! CHEERS
Ryan is a monster. One of the best!
I love how he gave Jamie King a shout-out. Jamie is amazing and he played drums for the band Swift.
If only he was around when 8-bit sega games were created
One of the best bassists alive. Love me some Ryknow!
Such an interesting dude. And absolute monster!
Ryan you are the best 🤟🏻👑🤟🏻
Dat guy is pure legend in bass art
Ryan never looses his pick.
I may be a heterosexual man, but... I still love Ryan Martinie... He's the reason I started taking Music seriously.
Another man can love another man, it doesnt make you homosexual ;) :)
Eugene from Jinjer, Nick from Job for a cowboy, so many bassplayers were influenced by this man. It cannot be understated.
It's hard to imagine this Ryan being the demonic Ryan from Mudvayne. Very cool, humble, guy. Always my favorite bassist
Ive heard one Soften The Glare song and it was DOPE
He seems to be a really great guy and his technique is quite interesting. Thumbs up for the Spaceballs reference!
One of my biggest influences as far as style
Man, he is such a cool dude!
Saw a comment "Came for a bass lesson, Left with a life lesson" like damn bro that's fcking true.
This guy is a Bad Ass Bass player!!!!
i love ryan !!! from japan
Great!!!
I don't know why this surprised me, but what a colossal nerd. (In the good sense) hahaha
Colossal need is always in a good sense 😉
Some people talks about victor wooten is great bassist and yes it is. But ryan is the greatest too he mix all bass technicals as he can play. And got velocity style goove even with metal and now with soften the glare we can see now how talented he is ... Since now a necessary reference foe every bassplayer
Ryan Martinie's approach to the instrument reminds me of the real greatest bassist of all time: James Jamerson
the technique is different but the APPROACH is very similar
Would love to hear Ryan play a Wal!
Ryan martine could make a video playing Mudvayne "dull boy" too that bass solo is amazing
What about that moment on the ld50 DVD where Ryan spits at the drummer? This is Ryan after the glare was softened.
Once I realised he was a jazz player, and hearing STG, it all made sense! Mudvayne was like a band around a bass player in LD 50! No disrespect to Mudvayne, I like what those other members did too, but yeah, I look at it slightly differently now. The other albums seemed to lose that raw, awesome bass sound, sitting nicely in the mix :)
So wanna trade my old Ibanez BTB 5st for a Thumb 5 NT, and get back into play after. People like him inspire other people, and that's the greatest gift he gives.. through some AMAZING bass playing, and smart guy. Just makes life that little bit better, knowing these people exist! Sorry, got excited, and why not!
RYAN BEST BASS
Ryan's married?!?! Dude awesome... Ryan said such great stuff. He looks great. He's bad ass. So many great and true stuff. About creating something people like. And being your own boss. Just great!!!.. I think Ryan just helped me pick a band name.... Interviewer asked great questions. Asking about how he came up with his sound was a great question... Honestly probably the best Interview I have ever taken the time to watch. Ryan's so smart. Especially me being n a new band in a written process. I listen to soften the glare and then go write with me new band. So inspiring for me, as a (human)
What a badass, standup guy and shredder bass player
I need to meet him
I didn't know Stuart from "Big Bang Theory" could play bass!
But seriously, Ryan is a beast. His sound in Mudvayne was so unique. Brr Brr Deng 4 lyfe.
That dude is a force of nature.
lol Ryan looks like Delmar from O'brother Where Art Thou
Jon Gonzalez oh George.... not the livestock.
Omfg😂😂😂😂😂
when this guy plays the bass it sounds like hes playing a piano
Badass
Ryan ♡👽
he's a pretty humble dude.
It seems that Ryan is playing Fodera basses nowadays. He's a fantastic player, indeed!
What a nice dude
didn't expect ryan to be such a nerd 🤣
We can all agree on how brilliant Ryan is on bass, and possibly how undervalued he is by the industry. Perhaps because the industry does not work well enough for pioneer artists?
LOVE THIS MAN he such a beast and truly beautiful person!!! check out Michael Manring album THONK and of course victor Wooten if you like this bass playing style!!
Go to animal as leaders !!!!!
This guy is really a fucking genius. He speaks the truth about success and gives really good advice on how to be yourself as an artist. He's lived it all and is still the same person when he started. He's gonna be a wise old man lol.
❤❤❤
