Actually in the video is really Rod Serling. This was taken from an original episode of The Twilight Zone. The only thing they did was change the image that was in the back and redub the audio with a voice impersonator. :D
As someone who grew up watching old Twilight Zone episodes, this introduction still sends shivers down my spine. Awesome intro to the ride. Loved everything about the ride.
Yeah, and that wasn't Serling's voice. These days they could effortlessly make that voice say and do anything for no extra payment, union rules, lunch, health insurance, retirement or ham sandwich.
It wasn’t a fake voice. Disney hired a voice actor named Mark Silverman, and got permission from Rod Sterling’s widow to impersonate him. I’m no Disney apologist, but at least raise ethical concerns with things that actually happened.
there was a wall, on the second floor in the boiler room, that you could faintly hear the little girl singing "it's raining, it's pouring" if you put your ear to it
Okay so.... The guy doing Rod Serling is actually an actor who actually could do the impression of him. Went well. Looked like an actual episode. :D Too bad the real black and white episode of this didn't happen (yet) It would look great.

if anyone's curious, 1:09-1:15 is actually ripped directly from season 3 episode 8 "It's a Good Life." in the original monologue, Serling is in a generic room, and he's pointing to a map of the United States. naturally, all of the other lines in this pre-show are done by a voice actor doing a Rod Serling impersonation, but i find it fascinating that they ended up reusing an actual clip from the show and changing it slightly. though, showing Rod Serling in the pre-show does add to the idea that we're actually in an og Twilight Zone episode. the thirty second intro is also the intro for season four, which, despite being the most iconic intro for the whole series, was arguably the intro for the most obscure season, as it initially aired at a different time slot and all the episodes were twice in length, making it less popular than the other seasons.

+Mark Silverman Mr. Silverman, I must say that I am a big fan of work your on the Tower of Terror. It’s one of my family’s favorite attractions ever. They came to the Disneyland Resort for a recent visit and I am currently editing a video of it for them. I was wondering if it would be possible for you to do a custom Rod Serling narration that was tailored to them. I think they would get a big kick out of it.
Some people may make fun of me for this, but I was terrified of this ride. I never went on it previously, so I didn’t know what to expect. The room that this played in made me even more scared! If anyone went on this ride on February 19th, just before the fireworks, yeah, sorry for my screams in this room. :)
My family (we're from CA) went to Disney World in 1996 when this was brand new (wasn't in CA yet). I was 14 and terrified just walking through the place and watching the video. My mom thought nothing of it -- until the drops started. Halfway through the ride I look over and her head is buried into my dad clutching him screaming her head off. We all get off the ride. I'm still scared. My dad is pumping the air "GREAT RIDE GREAT RIDE!" My mom: "I will NEVER go on that ride ever again." Even when it made it out to California Adventure, my mom stayed true to her word; 1996 was the first and only time she ever rode it lol
I am PISSED at Disney for changing this into a "Guardians of The Galaxy" ride that functions identically to this one. Just today I happened to be at Downtown Disney looking to see if it was true if the ride was changing. Sure enough, it is, and it looks horrendous. Great job Disney for locking our only entrance to the Twilight Zone.
It’s because the twilight zone owners are like “give us more money boi and we will let you use our ride” and Disneyland is like “nah fam I’m bout to call up marvel instead”
Nice video! I was able to show this to a friend who wouldn't be able to watch the full experience video because of it being long, so I sent her a video of the ride and then of this and her response was "WOW!" She is not a rider at all, so she may have had a mini heart attack.
1:10 you can see where he was cut out and put infront of a different backround. Pay close attention to his left hand. He died before they made the Tower of Terror ride, so they took him from another episode and put him infront of a different background. It's hard to get the cropping exact. Originally, he actually said "This as you may recognize is a map of the United States" but they replaced the audio with a voice impersonator saying "Maintenance service elevator". You can also see him saying "map", but they switched to a scene of the elevator.
Hey guys, this the script for the pre-show in the library. Enjoy! (static) (Twilight Zone Theme) Rod Serling: You unlock this door with the key of imagination. This as you may recognize, is a maintenance service elevator, still in operation, waiting for you. So it was raining, it was pouring... and there was also lightning and thunder last night, but however I couldn’t sleep so I imagined ToT scenes in my head and the soundtrack while it was raining, it was pouring..
Yes! The main building looks wider than it actually is. Also the Neon sign has been placed way too high. The wings of the tower that were supposedly destroyed don't go all the way to right below the sign, making it inaccurate for there to be elevator banks below the sign. In real life I wonder why there are elevator banks behind the sign? Logically doesn't make sense.
@@TrashBulldogProductionsThat change was made because Disney at the time of its construction realized a mishap which was that if they made it too high the construction would have to put red lights so that the planes could not collide with the building at night and that would make the attraction look bad.
@@MrRavenswood Yeah I read about that. This is why the main tower peaks at 199 feet in order to avoid the requirement established by the Federal Aviation Administration.
I remember going to Disneyland when I was around 4 or 5 sometime in 2012. I don’t remember much on the ride besides the drop. But this is the only other thing I vividly remember and it made me so scared
I used to be terrified of this ride as a kid but I finally got the chance to ride it again recently at Disney World. It really is a great ride...even if I still screamed like a little girl.
The little girl is referred to the girl who got stuck in the wall in another episode and also she is holding a 1939 Mickey Mouse Plush that you can see for a glimpse of a second in the pre-show.
One question. If the “hotel” part of the sign is over one destroyed elevator openings, how could there have been something there before? Just wondering.

0:55 how is that possible that lightning collapsed the front part of the tower? Plus wouldn’t the whole tower collapse because the lightning will also destroy the foundation as the front is attached to the main tower? What is this I’m not getting?
Better question: how is it possible that a simple lightning strike dematerializes the entire tower, the elevator, and the people inside of it? And how does that same bolt of lightning lead to a ghostly apparition of an elevator dropping into nowhere? What you're not getting is that this is The Twilight Zone. So, you're not _supposed_ to get it. That's why it's so fascinating.
Sorry to bring this comment back to life a year later, but I just watched the movie based off of this ride and in it, the reason the lightning caused all of that is because of a witch’s curse 😂
@@1krani I know now that twilight zone is something your not supposed to get, and your right it is why its so fascinating, what I was trying to do is trying to talk realism
@@winding5064 Well, realistically, the lightning didn't "collapse" the tower, it completely dematerialized it. My point was that trying to apply basic architectural knowledge to this scenario isn't going to go very far, since forces like gravity and friction aren't really accounted for when something is completely phased out of reality. What I wanna know is what did the people standing outside the hotel think when they saw all that lightning and ghost elevator stuff?
Spectacular theming and designing all around; the exterior representation of the building is beautiful, and looks so accurate to the twilight zone era/60s filming tech. I’m assuming it’s a classic painted backdrop. The DCA is CGI and just doesn’t fit as well as this gem.

+Mark Silverman You're THE Mark Silverman? It is such an honor!!
+Mark Silverman I'd love to hear that one. Besides some humorous outtakes that is.
Your good not an exact replica but you did well
carl lipsey but honestly man its the closet I've heard to the real searling
1:16
Maintenance Service elevator? I thought that was the map of the United States.
Chao Flaka it's different because this is NOT the episode it's a good life it's A TOWER OF TERROR preshow
I know, I was just joking on the reference.
Moi a la 1 salle j' ai commencé à avoir peur mais que un peu pourtant j' ai que 9ans
WHY IS EVERYBODY ON THAT ELEVATOR SO CALM? I WOULD"VE BEEN TRYING TO UNLOCK THOSE DOORS IN SHEER PANIC!
"Oh, we're going to the Twilight Zone with no way out. Noooooo."
They wouldn't have escaped because the lightning would've disintegrated them in a matter of seconds and the elevator would've been plummeting by then.
Actually There Are Two Other Versions Of This Ride In Paris And Florida (So Technically, There Are Two Other Entrances To...... The Twilight Zone
Actually There Are Two Other Versions Of This Ride In Paris And Florida (So Technically, There Are Two Other Entrances To...... The Twilight Zone)
Harvie Richards
And the non-twilight zone one in Tokyo DisneySea
It’s because the twilight zone owners are like “give us more money boi and we will let you use our ride” and Disneyland is like “nah fam I’m bout to call up marvel instead”
Don't look at the DCA skyline, doing so may result in temporary blindness.
Nice video! I was able to show this to a friend who wouldn't be able to watch the full experience video because of it being long, so I sent her a video of the ride and then of this and her response was "WOW!" She is not a rider at all, so she may have had a mini heart attack.
We need a new movie based on this ride very bad
Scarlett Johansson is giving us one
1:10 you can see where he was cut out and put infront of a different backround. Pay close attention to his left hand. He died before they made the Tower of Terror ride, so they took him from another episode and put him infront of a different background. It's hard to get the cropping exact. Originally, he actually said "This as you may recognize is a map of the United States" but they replaced the audio with a voice impersonator saying "Maintenance service elevator". You can also see him saying "map", but they switched to a scene of the elevator.
Hey guys, this the script for the pre-show in the library. Enjoy!

Rod Serling: You unlock this door with the key of imagination.
(door opens)
Beyond it, is another dimension.
(window shatters)
A dimension of sight.
(eye opening its lid passes)
A dimension of sound.
(ticking watch passes)
A dimension of mind.
(e=mc2 passes)
Your moving into a land of both shadow and substance (body and its shadow passes), of things and ideas, you've just crossed over into: The Twilight Zone.
Rod Serling: Hollywood, 1939.
(pan across HTH lobby)
The Hollywood Tower Hotel was a star in its own right, a beacon for the show business elite.
(bellhop, a famous couple, a child star, and her nanny enter elevator)
But something is about to change all that.
(doors close)
(hand of "floor counter" climbs)
(hotel is struck by lightning)
(inside elevator guests and the bellhop are electrocuted)
(elevator drops as part of the hotel disappears)
(view of elevator door with "out of service" sign)
(quick pan back to Rod in front of maintenance service elevator in boiler room)
Rod Serling: Tonight's episode of The Twilight Zone is somewhat unique, and calls for a different kind of introduction.
This as you may recognize, is a maintenance service elevator, still in operation, waiting for you.
We invite you, if you dare, to step aboard, because in tonight's episode you are the star and this elevator travels directly to: The Twilight Zone.

Growing up at Disneyland made me a huge fanatic. Great channel!
So it was raining, it was pouring... and there was also lightning and thunder last night, but however I couldn’t sleep so I imagined ToT scenes in my head and the soundtrack while it was raining, it was pouring..
Wow. Do you realize how much it actually looks like a Twilight Zone episode !?? It's amazing !! And that Rod Serling impression... Just... Wow. 😲🤩💝
Am I the only one who notices that the building in the pre show looks nothing like the actual building? Seriously there are so many differences.
@@TrashBulldogProductions Damn, 4 years later, crazy stuff. Time flies
My heart races just watching it, feeling like I’m going to just fall out of the sky or something. A Classic, really stimulates the memory.
What’s the woman selling, the one standing by the front desk. I always wondered. It’s at 0:38 and she has a tray.
Disney Fanatic great question
I actually operated this ride at Walt Disney world resort from 2006-2007. It was and always be my favorite ride at Walt Disney world.
Mark Silverman did such a great job playing Rod Serling. :)
I’ve heard this pre-show so many times that I pretty much know it by memory!
This was very well done.
Going on this ride was the absolute scariest thing my 6 year old self had ever experienced
When I was like 8 I went on this ride for the first time it scared me so much that I stop going on elevators for 2 years
this is a good ride! i loved when it opened up and we dropped down
The little girl is referred to the girl who got stuck in the wall in another episode and also she is holding a 1939 Mickey Mouse Plush that you can see for a glimpse of a second in the pre-show.
this is so iconic
One question. If the “hotel” part of the sign is over one destroyed elevator openings, how could there have been something there before? Just wondering.
The hotel in the pre shoe is actually built different. Its much fatter and the letters are above the 2 parts that collapsed.
Definetly my favorite along with haunted mansion
And now it's going to become a Guardians of the Galaxy ride...that still looks and rides like this one...way to go, Disney...way to go.
Just the California one.
imdb88 Yeah, I know, but it's still horrible.
+aeroranger100 the worst thing about this new marvel land is because of a deal made with universal there not aloud to make a ride thats themed on like almost all of the marvel charectors, iron man spiderman thor captain america and some others
Yeah, I know. Disney's quality isn't what it used to be...not talking about rides/attractions, but movies & shows as well.
oh please, its not horrible. sure, its not the super original thing disney used to be, but its that bad. we still have the one in disney world.
i love the music in the very beginning, it give me thrills!!! I just got back home from Disneyland Paris, it was amazing, oh my god..
I loved this ride so much!!!!
Imagineers knocked another one out of the park. They did such a great job of recreating Rod Serling's voice!
Thank you Stefanie, I worked very hard on this.
@@gargantuaism classic rod sterling impression and a classic ride
That moment when the tv turns off and the door opens
It still bugs me that the Orlando tower looks different in this pre show.
I totally appreciate this source video (and I will not even ask how you got it), but putting your SuperHotLarry logo on the enitre clip ruined it. Please reconsider and upload a clean version with no ads for your channel on it.
Disney Pal I'm sorry! :( I was only allowed to upload this video if it was watermarked so people did not download it and re-upload it as their own.
+SuperHotLarry It does not belong to you either?
+SuperHotLarry does mark have the rights?
Correct. It does NOT belong to me. However, part of the agreement of me uploading the video was to watermark it. It was not meant to signify that I owned the video. Hope this clears it up!
It doesn't actually :/
Can you upload it without your name on it please? Thanks!
I hadn't noticed that the exterior hotel footage when the people are zapped is a different angle from the DCA version!
This makes me tense just listening to it!
God, I love this ride
litteral goosebumps!! man i love this
Was this from an episode of the TZ? I remember the ride at Disney world.
I used to be scared silly by this video, but I loved the drops ( I was 6 or 7 at the time)
Tonight’s story on the Twilight Zone is somewhat unique and calls for a different kind of introduction. This, is what you may recognize is a maintenance service elevator, still an operation waiting for you. We invite you if you dare to step aboard because in tonight’s episode you are the star. And this elevator travels directly to... Iridocyclitis.
I understood that reference 🙇🏼♂️
This. It brings back the best of memories.
Still freaky what happened to the elevator guests in this video... or should I say... *SHOCKING!*
I need friends... :(
Where is the original file?
@@winding5064
Well, realistically, the lightning didn't "collapse" the tower, it completely dematerialized it.
@@1krani and what i wanna know what material that building is made out of for it to dematerialize
I always get goosebumps when I watch this
Spectacular theming and designing all around; the exterior representation of the building is beautiful, and looks so accurate to the twilight zone era/60s filming tech. I’m assuming it’s a classic painted backdrop. The DCA is CGI and just doesn’t fit as well as this gem.
This is great! Can you put up a link to this video that doesn't have your watermark on it? It would be perfect for a project that I'm doing.
How did he managed to get the raw video file from the ride????
Honestly didn't know this was heavily edited and synced until I grew up and my mum told me. It fooled me for years !!
It’s amazingly done. I think one of Disney’s best special effect.
who else has this pre-show video memorized AND the rock 'n roller coaster pre-show memorized from spending your whole day going back and forth between the two?
I never did this yet now that you mentioned it I am nostalgic about it
going to hollywood studios in april, very excited for my trip through the scary door
