There is a flow of thought from B. Tharp that you grow to appreciate in this video. She's spilling a stream of consciousness that brings you to the photo(s) and this places me in the spot, with the camera, and with the choices she had before her. I like this and appreciate it. I want to both argue with her and ask more with what she emphasizes. As the minutes march on in this viewing, the more I'm drawn in.
Definitely one of the best B+H presentations I have seen. Not exactly tons of news for enthusiast level, but knowledgeably and engagingly presented - and illustrated with instructive images, some of which are wow quality. Makes you want to grab your gear and shoot. Brenda's workshops must be fun.
I fell asleep on the couch with UA-cam on and woke up well into your lecture here. I watched it for a bit and thought, "this woman is on fire". I got up to watch to the end, and saved it to watch through again. I don't have an opportunity or the means to visit all these exotic places, but i do run through the list of shape, line, light, texture and gesture when I am out walking my camera. You are an enthusiastic and gifted communicator, and a first class photographer. I'm following you on Instagram. Thank you!
I normally don´t like when there´s a lot of talk, but it was needed here. I was grateful and delighted that I stopped into this. Congratulations Brenda. It was beyond greatness this B and H. Thanks
Dear Brenda: I hope your books and photos are bringing you much prosperity... Your expertise isn't limited to Photography. You have a great talent as a teacher. You have simplified so many concepts, so that I can now make use of them! :)) I have not had such success in learning from books. You're the Best!!! Aloha, -Scott (Maui)
I have been enjoying the B&H videos. This video is one one the best one AI have seen so far. I really like Brenda's approach, and I have learned a lot from her.
Thank you B&H and Brenda. This is a phenomenal seminar. Your creative eye seems to know no bounds and your innovative techniques - such as panning vertically - are boundless as well. I will certainly get your book. Great job.
I have just barely watched the beginning of this video and know with a doubt that you are so spot on with this Brenda. I feel a kindred spirit with you. I too have not really found my forte or niche but I love taking photos of everything and anything. I've done stroboscopic, smoke, water droplets with the crown, oil and water, nature, landscape....I love it all...!!!!! I have to admit that i probably the worst photographer when it comes to carrying my camera with me though. But I do use my creative senses when I am out and about.
An excellent presentation, both inspirational and informative. Your use of images to illustrate your points was done to perfection. Thanks so much for doing this and to B&H for sponsoring it.
Watching in 2019 This is so timeless I wish I have seen this when I was starting Photography in 1985 @ 12 years old! So much quality info. Compositions, Rule of Thirds, leading lines, colors, negative space, angles and I probably missed commenting on many more techniques. I love that you mentioned Brian Peterson and Monet. Both are excellent in their fields. Abstract, multiple shots, and moving your camera to create abstract Photographs ( art ) is a technique I have also learned in the past. So much Info. Thank you and B&H
Thank you Brenda for such a great presentation! You have shared such valuable actionable information. Your knowledge and delivery style makes this presentation one of the best on the B&H series. Thanks!
You bring a particular genius to your teaching and I am heartened completely with your expression: I am learning so much! Thank you for doing what you do the way you do it.
Another intelligent, inspiring video lecture from B & H. Thank you Brenda for helping me to really think about little details, about patterns and composition and for leaving out f-stops and shutter speeds! You are a very good teacher and I got a lot out of this.
She definitely knows her camera inside and out, knows where to look to see what most people don't see. I can't get rid of the feeling that some of her nature photos would look much more stunning in HDR.
Thanks, Brenda for this wonderful seminar. I learned lot more in this two hour seminar than everything else I have learned over years of photography. Love your vision and creativity.
this is the lecture I have been searching for along time in the u tube.I love this so......much.Her thinking process is great and each photograph is unique. Thank you so much Brenda.
This was wonderful! I am not a photography, but I am a digital painter and so much of what you said reminded me of things we learn when we study the masters of painting.
Thank you Brenda you are a super teacher and a great photographer, thank you so much. These topics are hard to find them. These video is for to keep it and see once in awhile.
What an excellent video to watch. So many gems of information and experience. My favorite moment? "Rent-a monk" :) Thank you B&H and thank you Brenda for opening my eyes to whats around and how to place it in context.
2020 and the lecture is as valuable as 16 years ago. There are enough tools to make an agenda and start practicing one group at a time. Practice with a strong academic backbone should take anyone from good to great.
***** I didn't know how to put my thoughts in words after I had seen all of those photographs. Your vision is extraordinary. The way you see things is exceptional. Through your eyes, I simply see beauty in plainness. For me ... your works are way out of all charts! Great job indeed.
I like it... Not about gears to improve your photos.... Its all about creativity.... The only thing that an average joe needs without burning holes in your wallet... One of the best videos!!!!!
Very inspiring video. I think that challenging yourself to see what most others may not see is what photography is all about. I have found that some of my best images are of a totally different subject than I had originally intended to shoot.
I can't say I'm a big fan of abstract photos, so not exactly my taste in terms of her photos. But, for anyone zoning out because they aren't into abstract photos, step back and have a good listen to what she's saying. Very good lessons as to how to find different ways to view things, which is the key to making good, original photos.
Excellent video and love the pictures. My question would be...what image effect do you have your camera set at...Faithful, Portrait, Landscape? Because you seem to get excellent color in your shots and I am assuming you don't do a lot of post computer work. Thanks.
+GraveTidings Channel - I reached out to Brenda Tharp with your question for you, and she replied with the following: "My camera is set to ‘camera standard’, but since that setting only affects the JPEG, and I shoot in RAW entirely, all the color/quality that you see is from processing in the computer. But I only process my images to reflect what the colors were really like, as close to my memory as possible, and make basic adjustments for exposure, contrast, shadows/highlights, etc. That is all I do, unless I want to take the picture a different direction with texture files and special effects, of course, then those require more processing." Hope this helps! - Yossi
I think NIK filters are in use quite a bit. Probably some photoshop magic too in some shots. She is very good at processing the photo's to make them pop. Her abstracts really impress me... I love them. Wondering how much is panning and how much is photoshop blur.
thank you B&H for this. this is one of the best videos out there. being in Iraq it is impossible to attend at B&H and be part of this that is why it is great to be able to watch this via your channel. thanks a million.
Great creative ways of displaying an otherwise commonplace boring image. I actually do similar shots. Do you offer workshops? Do you have a website or tutorial ?
Love your video! When I first started photography it was all about what I saw and could capture regardless of “technical “ aspects this video reminds to have fun again! Know this video is a far years old and you mention a few times what camera and lens you use. What type of camera and lens do you like to travel with today? There is a lot of talk about mirrorless now , I owe a DSLR. What did you mean About your “ stock” days? Thank you!
I’ve sat through this entire video about three times; I am just as enamored with her work, and I learn something new, each and every time.
One of the best presentations on photography I've watched online. Still relevant today and into the future. Good for amateurs and professionals.

Thanks, Brenda, not only your work is fantastic but you're a sensational presenter. Definitely one of the best B&H videos.
Kept me engaged for the full 2h 13 mins, one of the best B&H videos I have seen.

I'm from Myanmar, and soooo lovely to see the photos she took in Myanmar. :D
This is the best BH video I have seen yet… More of this please… There is no need for more equipment oriented fluff.
I can't say I'm a big fan of abstract photos, so not exactly my taste in terms of her photos.
