It's shocking how often I've seen that happen in real life as well - just one innocent comment or remark can sink a great day without fail. Seein' it in film's funny in a relatable way, even if it's happenin' for a criminal!

Nelson loved guns, and read gun magazines on the road and when stopped overnight -- esp. the articles about customizing and optimizing firearms. He loved to shoot the Thompson and would take care to riddle the elaborate plaster, granite, and mahogany decor of a large bank even if the tactical situation did not require it. He also shot out every plate-glass bank window he could, prior to the getaway. He himself was shot at lest twice with revolvers by enterprising citizens while pulling bank jobs with the Dillinger gang, but a bullet-proof vest saved him each time.
He also hated his nickname with a passion

Historically correct too. The drum mags were known to jam. Hence why in ww2 they stuck with the stick mags for the most part
Just remember folks. He didnt do it in one try. They took the better part of a day shooting that so ya he had some time to figure it out.
Blanks misfire and jam way more that live ammunition.
He cut loose with 2 Thompson machine guns one in each hand in his final shootout with the FBI. Got hit 17 times and killed all agents on him. Mad as a cut snake.
Apparently he was shot 9 times but they initially reported the number incorrectly. And he killed 2 agents but that was with a .351 Winchester converted to full auto. Still very impressive to live through that and continue to fight.

@@bit1733 Yeah. He used to rob banks and wait for the cops to turn up so he could kill them. He was also known to turn his car around when he seen a cop car going the opposite direction to shoot it out with them. He was a baaaaad man !!

The Coen brothers know how to cast actors for the roles in their films. Michael Badalucco is another prime example.

Everything about this scene is so surreal. The bankrobber instantly trusting those guys and taking them in tow, the nonchalant attitude of everyone to the violence, the incredibly fragile self esteem.
You just watch the movie and can never predict what happens next

Tell that to Larry Phillips Jr and Emil Mătăsăreanu who pulled off bank robberies like this with AKs in the 1990s. They got away with a few before being killed by police in the North Hollywood Shootout of 1997.

Man, I wish a bank robber would random pull up next to me while I’m walking on the side of the road and let me help them drive the car while they fend off the police and then take me to their next bank robbery where it goes off without a hitch and after all of it is said and done they give me the money because they only wanted the fame.

Did anybody notice they ( the studio) edited out the part where George kisses the young girl after he jumps off the table but before he runs to the bank teller. I mean it's pretty obvious he goes from walking it off the street with no lipstick on his face to walking away from the teller with a red smudge across the left side of his mouth
