Ex-Oly lifter here. Oly lifting is very taxing on your joints, particularly shoulders for me. I would say if you do everything right, you get 5-8 really good years. I lifted at essentially the same clip as this guy with similar PR rates for 4 years. This guy either is a genetic freak or lifting during those physically formative years made his body adapt to that style of lifting. 15 years is incredible.
Damn I kind of thought in a way if you lifted very hard the joint would adapt and it would be safe, do you still have issues with the shoulder? For most powerlifters will they have troubles for the rest of their lives?
@@kurt7937 joints don’t adapt, they wear. Muscles, ligaments, and bones adapt. If you damage a joint you need surgery, and it will still never be the same - source - dislocated my shoulder
@@kurt7937 I'm nowhere near as good of lifter, but my personal experience really is that your shoulders are just the most vulnerable part of your body while weightlifting. While the back and legs can be insured with strict form and a lot of conditioning, the shoulders are just inherently weak in comparison. They serve to stabilize the lifts and if you are imprecise with your pull, your timing, your catch, etc, they can end up in a nasty compromised position, especially if you insist in saving a lift. I've been weightlifting for about 5 years and the only issue I've had so far were my shoulders, though every now and then I have sore knees or upper back, which can be solved by taking it a bit easier for some time.
@@GusativoYes, 100%, not to mention the fact that the shoulder joint is pretty much capable of 360 degrees of motion, which is awesome, but also means it can basically be injured in all 360 degrees of that range of motion. Combine this with the fact it’s naturally a weaker joint in comparison to the connective tissue and joints in the knees and the Achilles tendon for instance, and there you go, you’ve got yourself a part of the body that’s extremely prone to injury. The knees have evolved to tolerate significantly more abuse, they’re used nearly all day long for nearly everything, with each step, especially going down stairs, they’re taking abuse that gradually adds up, and while it is very possible to injure them, it’s a hell of a lot harder to do so than it is to injure the shoulders, they’re simply far far tougher, incomparably so.
@@Gusativo That explains why I've had sore shoulders recently (new to WLing) Guess I should really work on my form more before pushing myself to lift heavy, cause my form is shit

Clarence Kennedy is basically what top tier genetics + steroids+crazy stupid hardwork can achieve. I don't care that he uses gear. Every time I see him PR or do something insane, I know I have witnessed a god walk among men.
I think what mind boggles me is that. Ive never seen anyone else do any Olympic lifts on gear like he does. Especially his lifts like clean and jerks and snatches. His mobility, joint strengths, and technique is insane.
@@MrSamoannn Exactly. You could be on gear and have insane strength but your joints and ligaments may not keep up. A lot of guys would experience life altering injuries with that kind of progression. This guy’s joints are made out of fucking adamantium.
He looks to have always had a gift for coordination and physical movement. Starts lifting weights, builds a lot of strength, then when he hits 19, 20, 21, then the size starts to catch up with his strength. Makes sense to me. Body undergoes a lot of changes, and just a change in diet can help add more mass. The mass isn't freakish by any means for how consistently and how heavy he lifted.
His mass isn't insane, but his strength is. Regards, he just isn't natty. He's said so explicitly in the past. He doesn't ever go into detail about what he's using or what he's used, but in a Q&A where he was asked if was natty, he answered simply "no."
He just made a side note to not being natty in a q&a vid. He answers the question “Are you natty?” With a simple “no” and moves on. I think for him it’s more about getting every square inch of progress out of his body and hasn’t competed in a long time. Super impressive lifter.

Juji and Clarence collabed in so many videos on both their channels and were friends before they even started their UA-cam channels. Olympic Weightlifting really busts your body up but it’s so aesthetically pleasing and in my opinion one of the most amazing expressions of athleticism. Clarence said he has some knee issues and will switch to Powerlifting eventually, he is clearly on gear his lifts are elite level yet he doesn’t compete.
Olympic weightlifting is probably safer then powerlifting clarences knees are shit from squats everyday and olympics lifts everyday and then not taking s break for his tendons
@@mrmolasses5366 no it's not safer, instead of lowering yourself into positions. You have to violently produce force and have your joints catch the impact. In the long run the toll will be taken on your joints especially your knees. Heck even your elbows

Juji and him collabing is one of the reasons he has so many views and subscribers, even if his channel pretty much consists of lift shots. Obviously the biggest reason is because he's a really (like really) likeable guy, he's Bugenhagen with an Irish dialect instead of the yelling, and glasses instead of a supreme 'stache.
That's not true at all, he's pause squatted 306kg, the best lifters around that bodyweight squat around ~320kg at most and have snatched/Clean and jerked more.
I was easily on the wall in the weight room for benching 250lbs when I was 15 which would be like 8th-9th grade. That's without actually doing training as I wanted girls and weed more than muscles.
Holy shit, natty or not doesn't matter here. The dude's been going hardcore since 12 (yes, the parcour training stuff definitely counts)! Mad respect. What a goddamn beast. I'd guess he might be on something as he's *still* going higher in his PRs and his numbers are... well from what I know pretty goddamn top tier. But honestly in a case such as this can't blame him. Just hope that if he is on something that he's doing it a responsibly as possible.
Derek, you need to see a video called "Training with Clarence Kennedy" under Tyson Edwards channel. He basically blows up like a brickshithouse on a cycle with cystic acne on his back and shoulders. He's a lot smaller now though. There's also a video called "Fusion Gone Clarence Kennedy" where he's shirtless and looks absolutely cranked.
Clarence has been sippin on the superphysiological caprisun for a while, he also doesn't claim natty. I also think that's why he doesn't compete anymore because he could kick ass in his weight class
I might be mistaken but i think that clarence said at a video that he doesn't compete because of the un-natties in the sport. As if the whole structure has gone out of hand and now he feels that it is not worth competing.
Clarence planned his whole training regiment out before he started. He worked on his athleticism before doing all these PRs and trained his squats from the very bottom of the floor up. @HYPERBOREAN IMMORTAL He started juicing at 21. It fucking says that in the video, are you kidding me?
