Minutes after checking into their BC Airbnb, a US couple’s valuables were gone

- A U.S. couple visiting Vancouver in early July told Global News they had an unwelcome arrival when they checked into their Airbnb in North Vancouver.
As the suitcases were heavy and it was late, the couple decided to put these smaller bags in the Airbnb and go back to their car to get the suitcases.
But when they went back into the house and couldn’t find their backpacks and smaller bags, they realized they had been robbed.
As Global's Kristen Robinson reports, the couple is criticizing the police for what they say was its inadequate response to the break-in.

No leads? You have him on camera!
Hey start with the airbnb host(s) and the neighbors.
...US cops even told them when the stolen card was used when and where. No leads? Really? We're relying on the public to identify? So embarrassing.
@@melissalovingit6872
Unreal,
No leads,
I've read The Hardy Boys books,
maybe I can help the RCMP
@@melissalovingit6872
The airbnb operators are probably wondering what kind of review they'll get from these robbed guests ,lol
Dumb cops!
@@briandufoe3719 maybe the Airbnb hosts are also involved after all, cameras on premises show exactly where the visitors put their valuables if they did not lock their door and where they are…it was suspicious how the robber timed it so perfectly, in and out undetected.
My guess is that the thief lives very close by, maybe even next door
The backyard bandit
Thanks Sherlock.
Maybe it's YOU !
Damn the interweb is harsh 😂😂
Or the owner of the place!
That thief knows it's an airbnb...he knows the moment people arrive they leave the door unlocked, drop their luggage and go look around. Lock your doors people. Especially when it's not your door to begin with.
He came in through the unlocked back door though. That would going the extra mile on surveillance if he could spot that.
I think there is more to this story.
In the meantime, the next time I get an airbnb, I'll be checking all the doors and windows once I get inside.
Inside job 100% how else did he know the perfect time to strike. Doesn't look like a homeless person, too well fed
Inside job would have turned the cameras off
@@globalfashionhighlights2194 then how did he know the exact time to strike. Probably used cameras to his advantage
@peterpeter5666 using cameras 'to his advantage' would probably entail hiding or erasing the footage so they don't end up on Global News
I would bet the property owner can recognize the dude
Probably the owner of the airbnb 😅
Nothing beats a hotel where the door locks behind you, and there is security in the parking lot and at the front desk .
Don't worry people ,rcmp are investigating . ..........
I never experienced that in any country and I'm travelling weekly...
Ya investment in gays
@@DParker-qv2kz what has an AirBnB to do with gays?
@@sandraankenbrandyou’re not from Canada so you don’t understand the joke.
@@sandraankenbrand I'm talking about the Rcmp.
You see Canada was great when women couldn't vote. Canada was great when couldn't drive. Canada was great when women couldn't be police officers and Canada was great before the LGBT. See the trend here ? Are you following the trend downhill?
What the hell? You have no leads even though you have him touching the door with no gloves and clear video of his face? And you're telling me you can't figure out who this guy is? The RCMP is a joke.
You watch too much csi
Do you imagine that they have pics and prints for everybody in the country?
@@FreedaPeeple-dj5fy If you get convicted of a criminal offence in canada your fingerprinted, blood sample even hair and it goes into a database so if they really wanted to they could try but maybe he doesnt have a record and the cost of doing all the forensic testing is expensive and usually saved for homicide type crimes.
No fingerprints unless your a criminal been arrested
LAZY!
On camera walking into the airbnb(unlocked open door). On camera trying to use the cards at the mall. On camera getting into his car at the mall.......... No Leads.... SMFH
Here's an idea... check the GPS of the uber driver that dropped them off.
... No Leads....ffs
They probaly found out he's illegal
Maybe you should stay in a hotel. It would be safer. You're in a backyard.
Airbnb owner may have shown a front yard of his house with mountain view but when the guest enter..o..o we are in basement. This is how Aibnb home-owners are cashing in, another official way to loot people and this happened with a friend of mine few weeks ago yes in Vancouver as well
0:55. Did I hear right? No leads? Face on the security camera. There must be security camera at the mall. Trace them. This is so embarrassing to be you, a RCMP.
good point, about the mall! For godssake they have the time on the attempted purchases. Also dudes not wearing gloves and touched doorframe it seems. ughhhh do your job coppers
You'd have to be pretty dumb to think the RCMP haven't done all that. They will have still photos from the video above, and from whatever exists from the mall. Then they'll spread the photos around to all of the police depts in the Van area asking if any cops know who the perp is. Most likely, the guy has been arrested many times before, and a cop in one of the other depts will speak up with the guy's name. Then they issue a warrant for his arrest after checking out where he lives. Eventually, he'll get nicked.
They are soooo lazy or this person is associated with law enforcement.
people hate cameras here because they have twisted mindset, they believe cameras are for invading privacies. but in reality, it is used to ensure safety of people. people don't understand. plus, camera footage would do much because police wouldn't care. i have had 2 experiences and 4 of my friends had the same experience too. police didn't even care when we provided the security footage. yes, this is the western world has became.
A hotel will have much better security than Airbnb. Stay in a hotel next time.
I don't think they are gonna come back next time 😂
meh, lock the damn doors and trust no one
Air bnb is actually terrible and is hurting Canadian economies big time. the seldom few owners are getting rich while neighborhoods are being turned upside down. It's a TERRIBLE business model. If you want to run a hotel, run a f*cking hotel. Residential houses aren't ZONED for that bullsh!t.
yeah ! and take a private jet while you're at it so they don't steal your luggage. Follow me for more travel hacks.
Suddenly I don't see racial comments, I wonder why. Where are the keyboard warriors for this thief?
@@azhyhama9649 they’re busy, have been for some time now.
@saxonthegermanshepherd2809 I bet. I saw a comment that was still blaming the victim couple. Hope they were sarcast 😁

why poke the wolverine? 🤫
Meanwhile, Toronto goes blam blam blam
He was watching that place for people just like them.
Yup, that's the MO bet he lives close by.
I'd bet a repeat offender, released on his own honesty to appear for court,
Id bet on that.
There are no laws in Canada,
Just business opportunities for lawyers ,judges and the rest of the judicial system.
... catch and release...
So true
No laws in Canada lol...

yep,
The justice system in Canada is just an opportunity for business for lawyers and judges, and all the rest of them.
I imagine lawyers love to hear about " being released ", it just means another payday on the way,
There's zero concern for the saftey of the community,ZERO !
That's why with trudeau we are called " Scamada " 🇨🇦🔥
Lock your doors people! Be extra vigilant, especially when on vacation. It’s not the time to let your guard down.
People (including Canadians) think people in Canada are nice and sweet, and we don't lock our doors at night. Times have changed people! We do lock our doors at night, with sometimes 2 locks. If you live in Surrey, 2 locks aren't enough, we have alarm systems. Crime is only going to increase here. Pretty sad that the North Van RCMP can say "No leads, but we're actively investigating this incident" - You have him clear as day on camera.
Grew up in Surrey in the 1970's and 80's......we never locked our house or cars at night.
Haha, welcome to Canada!
Also, no leads? His face was there.
Canadian systems are a joke
No leads is just what the cops tell the media.
they don't care. they don't care even the footages are provided.
Sorry this happened. We’re not all dirtbags in Canada. 🇨🇦
This is bc under the ndp
*WHY ON EARTH DID YOU LEAVE THE BACK DOOR UNLOCKED???*
This was the VERY first question that came into my mind
Think it may have been unlocked before they arrived.
@@MmeuMarfirst stop - the owners 🤷♀️
I’m Guessing they think Canada is very honest and you don’t need to lock/close doors
try reading the description
That is pretty clear video evidence. Surely someone knows who this is. What a creep.
I absolutely hate how sketchy Canada is. Bosses, co-workers, landlords, neighbours, roommates, co-tenants, even your own friends and family will take from you and/or gain whatever advantage over you they can.
Wow. Can't even walk to the car to grab something without someone stealing your stuff. Having to lock the door just to go that little distance is wild. Shouldn't be hard to find the guy. He must know it's an AirBnB and be close enough to see people arrive.
Owners. Also need to hear from other people who have stayed there if this has happened before. Looks like he knew the door was going to be easy to open.
Imagine how the comments blow up when we swap the skin colour between the thief and the victim!?
Yup Sad …and to read all these depressing comments…Everyone crapping on Canada….that doesn’t help us move forward being negative and the fear mongering….🤦🏼♀️🫡‼️🇨🇦💕
Welcome to Vancouver, where crackheads are everywhere and consequences are non-existent.
Airbnb is so unsafe. I can't use it anymore.
I wonder if the thief was a neighbour that knew about the Air B & B and could see the coming and going of people renting the place?
I grew up in the Netherlands and we lock evvverrrryyyything . I was shocked to see how many people here in canada leave car keys in vehicle running errands, leave front back door unlucked while out😳 windows easily to climb in from grond yet left wide open while running out on errands. I do not get it. I could never😂
No leads😅😂... the guy is on video, call the FBI American, and they will find him.
The RCMP are investigating...........................all the local donut shops. Details at six!
😂🎉😮
Yeah… very hard at work I see 😒
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
It seems like someone knew their schedule, what time they would arrived.
What disgraceful behaviour ! I hope the culprit is caught and shamed. I am so very sorry for the visiting couple.
You see at 0:06 he is putting his fingerprints on wall / door. Did the police get prints?
That why you need hotels with security for tourists. Homes should be left just for people looking for homes to live. Ban arbnb
This wouldn’t have happened if they had locked the door. Where were they when the guy took their stuff? It’s unfortunate but don’t be naive when you are travelling.
Typical suspect
Good chance he lives right next door. How else would he know someone showed up there. Sure didn't look homeless.
being from this area there are a lot of shady individuals they well
take anything that isn’t nailed down
Obviously has some type of connection with the Airbnb
What a bum …
sneaky lil weasel, prowling in 😬
This wouldn’t have happened in a hotel. 😶
Sure, it would if the door wasn't locked.
I thought you would say this wouldn’t of happened if trump were in charge. 😂
Actually it does too.
the thief seems to know the place very well..🤔
Why was the door left unlocked?
Diversity is our strength!
A fighter....but literally left the door unlocked 😅
Seriously, why was the door unlocked and why were your passports in the bags and not on you at all times????
There got to be dashcam video from parked cars or surveillance cameras from nearby homes to trace where he came from and gone to!
😔 ugh, so sorry to hear this.
Maybe keep the doors locked……🤷♂️
Lmao
Maybe do Not : "catch and release "...
“Diversity is our strength” 😂 in thieves
I feel like apologize on behalf of who are not the right wing folks. We do have a fraction of MCGA type. And of course their bots around probably from some unsavoury countries
I am MAGA and I am MCGA. i am against communism which trudeau and biden governments are. all gotta go!
Barcelona is getting rid if AirBnB because of the high cost of longterm rentals to residents. I know Toronto should do it. This looks like another good reason to examine the risks inherent in allowing short term rentals.
Hope they catch this guy - how did he even know a couple had checked in?
Terrible thing to happen for a tourist visiting Beautiful BC ❤ 🇨🇦
“Let’s sleep in a strangers home. What could go wrong?”
Why would they not lock the door? They’re victims of their own negligence!
No leads? Walmart doesn't have security cameras? The only reason these lazy cops will investigate is it's on the news.
even if he got caught he wouldn't even go to jail
How is this guy not already caught and behind bars? Anyone who knows or has seen this guy regularly would immediately recognize his face and body type. No way you can't ID him if you know him.
“Diversity is our strength”
I will never book thru a air bnb again. As we were ripped off in mazatlan mexico for 2 thousand canadian, they didn't care or post our 5 page with photos complaint. Go vrbo never had a problem in the past with this company. Wish we never even heard of air bnb !
Thank god not an immigrant otherwise hell would have broke loose here .
We are all immigrants unless you’re Native. Some of us just got here sooner.
You can tell if he's an immigrant or not just by looking at a blurry picture of him? Incredible
Looks illegal
What a disgrace
Why are they investigating this? And putting it on the news? 😂
Why is the backdoor unlocked? If it was the tenants, ok. But if it was unlocked to begin with, it's sus.
Looks like a set up js
No leads ?😂 Wow I'm not a cop and even I can figure that one out😂
Police should check the cameras where they tried to use their cards

Next time stay in a hotel. You get what you pay for.
The thief was probably trying to discourage Air BnB in his neighborhood. Air BNB is now illegal in BC.
North Vancouver? No way this guy isn't findable: thieves on the North Shore STAY on the north shore, and there aren't that many of them.
And they are all known 🫣
Total and complete bunk. I did booking for years for various RCMP detachments and criminals know no borders.
@@thatcanadayeah but they mostly commit crimes in the same area. Especially petty theft, local crims are often known to police..but I guess you don't learn that in booking
I'm in Lynn Valley with Blockwatch. We get the crime maps. You are wrong. We just had someone looking in car and apartment windows in our complex this past week. We have had peepers many times. Many car break ins. It's getting worse. I found a baggie of meth next to my car 3 weeks ago. We have put up our own privacy fence, installed motion lights and cameras. If you think crime is low here think again. All this over development here on the North Shore has invited a whole new brood of trouble. 😠
Time to short that garbage company
Frankly if you book an AIR BNB you;re asking for it! PLUS air bnb are ILLEGAL in North Vancouver and Vancouver!

How could there be no lead.
Inside job. The cops should be looking at the owner first.
Buddy definitely knee it was an Air BnB and was watching
BC isn't for beginners
Warren G said BC makes him nervous.
You wedge a knife in the door frame to lock it.
It was a setup Who owns the house?
It's obviously someone VERY close to the rental who is the thief. Sniff Sniff!
I learned as a kid in school years when videos show about incidents, crime, kidnapping, stealing, etc..... One thing for sure when someone enters your place, "lock your doors", that will take a bit out of crime. CHOMP!!
Weak police. Weak judicial system, and a country full of low life. What could go wrong?
Hang around that airbnb. I am sure he'll appear again. Lonsdale/North Van is not a huge area and most everybody there know each other.
Another proud moment for North Van RCMP.
It's easy to find air BNBs online....
Stay at hotel seems safer alternative
