This is the best instructional video I've ever seen! Been watching them for 7 yrs now so seen them all. It helps me to turn into the back hip and then plant the front foot, then pull through. I am an open front foot plant and pulling before I land kind of guy. But if I concentrate on turning into the back hip and then notice the weight going forward, I can land perpendicular then pull through. I don't know if I'm making sense, but it certainly feels more coiled when I feel weight shift into my back hip. If I flat foot walk up, I'm all arm and shoulder turn and land front foot open and no brace. Am I on the right track? Thanks for posting. You really delve into this great sport.
I think a good mental cue is to imagine I'm a hockey player and on my last step I'm doing a hockey stop on ice. That gets my front foot turned in and landing on the inside ball of my foot, and I'm pairing that with trying to keep my head still until the disc is released so I don't rotate my shoulders too early. Great tips 👍
I love when coaches take the target out of the equation. It has been a huge help as far as cutting out my bodies default habits of getting a disc to get there. Allows me to focus ONLY on the motion I am working on. Hope you get that mic situation figured out haha. That furnace is roaring.
Yep! Upgraded the mic a while back. Its better now! Though I still manage to mess it up sometimes…. And yes! Being target focused actually messes up a TON in our backhand. Got a few video ideas on that front kickin around…
You are a super good coach. I'm not skeptical of the shit your'e teaching. It all makes sense to me. Some youtube coaches I"m like ehhh I dunno man, maybe....
Dude! Thank you, thats one of the coolest complements I've gotten recently! Yea, there is some suspect info coming out recently for sure. Most coaches are pretty solid on most of their content, but people tend to have blind spots for sure. I'm sure I have some still but I'm doing my best to listen to people like Seabas22 and Coach Chris Taylor and Michael Strass to fill in my gaps and keep learning. Thanks for the kind words!
Mostly correct, but I don't agree with the part at 2:30 settling the rear knee in, it should actually turn out which will give you more stability and backswing. The inward knee rotation doesn't really happen until the foot is unweighted and reacting. Teacherman is interesting, for batting you want to accelerate very fast in order to be able to react to the pitch, so his mechanics are more about being able to hit the pitch rather than creating the most efficient swing or smash factor which also why he always falls over on his swings lacking a better weight transfer. I also don't recall him teaching the inward knee though. ua-cam.com/video/F4AGSN1FZuA/v-deo.html FYI You can plant open and still pivot on the heel, just depends on where the pressure is or moving. Crush the Can, Swivel Stairs, and Turbo Encabulator are complimentary drills.
Thanks Seabas22! I think I'm with you on the knee thing... my current model is less 'athletic' than some of the people I've worked with and I have definitely seen people who's mechanics I like better than mine that do let that rear knee get pointed further backwards than mine. From watching them is it totally clear that they are loading that leg better than me and getting more out of it that is helping their throw. However, both in my current throw and for newer players still getting solid form figured out I feel like loosing a bit of power from the rear leg to be sure to avoid deeper pitfalls is a win for now. As my throw progresses I'm sure I'll get back to a deeper rear leg load, but I don't think thats the most productive focal point currently. But thanks for the correction! I think that knee in cue is from the Hogan 'the move' vid with the annoying camera guy and the golden retriever. Not teacherman... Interesting nuance about him focusing on swing speed over power though, great point! Re: pivot on heel with open toe. Totally agree, its just less likely that a ball pivot. I'll spend some more time with the vids you mentioned, I'm not very familiar with Swivel Stairs yet...
Maybe this will help someone: the more I try to get on my heel the more I get on my ball cuz that's how the foot works you're walking when you come down on the heel. The only way to go heel first is to turn the knee out (bad). Think plant with the ball and you'll naturally go to the heel (crush the can) and in my case it's infinitely easier to not turn the knee out.

Yep. Thats a perfect way to cue keeping the front foot closed.
Nice work!

Never once thought about the placement of my left foot really and I’ve been having trouble finding my brace, excited to try this, thanks!
Thank you! Hope it helps.
Thanks for the video, exactly what I need to be working on

Yep, ball touches down first then the weight drops into the heel. Good cue!
Why do i feel personally attacked at 1:30 :D ? #horseguy
Understanding the problem is the first step to recovery! ; )
