2:53 - fun fact about CATs: in one of the Ciaphas Cain books, it’s mentioned that techpriests regularly build them in their spare time and then keep them around as essentially pets, so you can find them wandering around all over the place on forge worlds.
Space, the final Hulkening. These are the voayages of two squads of terminators. Their continued mission to stomp out life, to seek out alien civilisations. To boldly purge like no one has purged before.
It's never not insane to me that GW refuses to either keep this game in print, or bring out new variations every few years, but nope - though I dread to think what they try and charge for this nowadays.
I just came across one of these in the pre-owned section of my local game store and asked them to set it aside for me. The whole thing is already painted, but whoever did so put a lot of love and care into it because the models all looked gorgeous.
I still have some of my OG Space Hulk parts. Found them at the family home when I looked after my folks in their twilight years (and the OG Titanicus box too). I have the newer boxed set as well, it's a beautiful game, still one of my favorites.
Perfect timing; I just moved my NIB copy of this box set to the top of my pile! Hopefully I can get it built and painted to the standard it deserves before the calendar ticks over to 2025.
Throwback? Make me feel old! I still have a sealed back up copy of the Space Hulk 3.5 edition I found for $99 NZD a few years back which is bloody mental. To put that in perspective, Necromunda: Hive Secundus is $347 NZD from GW.
Trivia note, the Red plastic colour used for the Marines was matched to the Coffee Mug on my desk while I worked in the design studio in the Miniatures department. Nice to see that the components still get some love, as we were all playing lots of boardgames at the time, and all of us wanted to ensure we made the coolest version of the game we could. Minis were designed in CAD by the wonderfully talented Alex Hedstrom, who really poured his heart into them, and gave us some incredibly characterful pieces to play with. I still have my unopened copy tucked away somewhere, this just might get me to take the shrink off !
I recently re-bought 1st edition Space Hulk and Leading Edge Game's "Aliens" my first two wargames. Great to have these old friends again. I still think the grungy art of the first edition Space Hulk tiles looks the best 🙂
I like the idea of parsing out a big-box project into smaller pieces so you can start playing "mission 1" faster. I have the new Warcrow box coming in, I may try this method out on that project, and see how it turns out, whether I find myself getting a big-box project done faster.
Ash, just this past week I was googling "Space Hulk Rules" to try to put together my own "box" of the game, figuring I could use my Death Guard termies from kill team + my upcoming Secundus Malstrain Genestealers for a weird twist on everything. Then you put out this days later. This is getting a little freaky.
Ah sweet! In typical fashion I missed the stream. What happened with Cursed City was a shame. Necromunda: Secundus sounds pretty dope even if the execution of the box is a little lackluster.
I played this for a while but got lore-burn because I was seeing these centuries-old ultimate warriors in the most fearsome armor and wielding the most potent weaponry in the history of man being laid low by jamming guns and space bugs. Eventually the ennui was too much!
Although I like the extra content in the 4th edition box (as you know it being more of a 3.1 edition), the design of the 3rd edition box, in particular that beautiful dramatic SPACE HULK titling, is just *chefs kiss*. The weaker, thinner appearance on the 4th edition box just doesn't compare. One small thing, you might need to crop the top of your inset a little, as there's a thin black line. It's a little distracting when the rest is keyed so well :D
I still have my copy of this unopened. I really need to deal with my pile of shame... Currently working through Space Crusade (with some help from a couple of friends). Got the genestealers from that on the painting desk right now.
For those who keep lamenting that GW should reprint this, it's probably never going to happen, or at least not in a way you would want. The problem with the product is that it was too good of a deal. It undercut GW's main 40k line too much. If you add up the comparable minis alone, its well over $400 US for them. The last 2 releases had tons of paper only auctions of eBay as players who had no interest in the game bought it for the minis in their 40k armies, and scalpers got decent profit parsing out the minis while still staying substantially under the price of what the mainline mini was. If the game is so great, how many of you would be willing to buy the cardboard and paper separately like the Cursed City expansion, and buy the minis at a comparable price to a 40k unit box set?
When I got into 40k back in 2016, I had a few chances to pick up the most recent re-release of this box since Ebay scalpers were still charging semi-reasonable prices for it, but being fresh out of high school I opted to spend my money on the Imperial Knights: Renegade box, which is a purchase I do not regret because it was two knights for the price of one plus some terrain, but I doubt I'll ever actually play the game itself. Partially under the naive assumption that they'd re-re-release this version of Space Hulk some time soon. Which version of Space Hulk do you think would be best to either track down a copy of, or just make from cardstock and a mix of old minis and 3D printed ones, as someone who has played copious amounts of all three editions?
I appreciate the fancy 3rd ed version, but I'd really like a more 1st edition Space Hulk. Something a little less expensive that they can release more often.
I disagree about that GW could not make this size of a game any more. Look at any Awaken Realms or CMON board games. Their quality and quantity of minis and components are on par with GW. And they manage to make them on a reasonable price.
The second song slaps to the point where I didn't skip ahead. And I regret to this day that I didn't pick this game up when it came out...it looked so well done, but I think the price was too much for me back then...

This video could have been two hours and I would still watch every second of it. Relaxing and fun. Thanks!
Space, the final Hulkening. These are the voayages of two squads of terminators. Their continued mission to stomp out life, to seek out alien civilisations. To boldly purge like no one has purged before.
I'd watch that show.
Ash … you’re whole explanation for why you have more than a couple of copies of Space Hulk 09 is *fucking amazing* and makes me love you even more
It's never not insane to me that GW refuses to either keep this game in print, or bring out new variations every few years, but nope - though I dread to think what they try and charge for this nowadays.
I had to make my own Space Hulk game using online scans, a 3d printer, and lots of cardboard, but it's worth it.
The only thing in the universe stronger than GWs greed is their contempt for their customer

"Hello there!"

this game was my entry game to the crack known as 40k! such a great game i started back in 1989 !

Yes!!!! Space Hulk!!!! I love all things Space Hulk!
Great video enjoying this format, looking forward to the next part.

Throwback? What do you mean throwback, that brand new edition came out just... just.. 15.. years ago... *spontaneously turns to ash*
I recently re-bought 1st edition Space Hulk and Leading Edge Game's "Aliens" my first two wargames. Great to have these old friends again. I still think the grungy art of the first edition Space Hulk tiles looks the best 🙂
Amazing game! Very excited to watch this series 🙌

I bought this box in 2017 for like 75$. My first WH 40k minis that I ever assembled.
Niagara Fall! Sloooowly I turned. Step, by step. Inch by inch.
I keep mulling over rebuilding this version of Space hulk, will all new models, and 3d tiles , and with walls from board action.....
Do it
New models? Rather than the best Terminators and 'stealers that GW has ever released?
I’m 3d printing corridors and doors now.

Is it weird if I want to hear more details about your rummaging through a dumpster to grab Space Hulk pieces?
Ah sweet! In typical fashion I missed the stream. What happened with Cursed City was a shame. Necromunda: Secundus sounds pretty dope even if the execution of the box is a little lackluster.
Space Hulk makes me happy. ❤
I played this for a while but got lore-burn because I was seeing these centuries-old ultimate warriors in the most fearsome armor and wielding the most potent weaponry in the history of man being laid low by jamming guns and space bugs. Eventually the ennui was too much!
I know I am screaming into the void when I ask why GW does not make this game available still?
Perhaps a voice over with any specific tips during the sped up sections? Or a skip to time indicator?

Nice work dude 😍😍
Cardboard maps 💯
I would love to get a new box. Maybe even have bases back for the minis.
I still have my copy of this unopened. I really need to deal with my pile of shame... Currently working through Space Crusade (with some help from a couple of friends). Got the genestealers from that on the painting desk right now.

16:55 - convenient, or was it planned by whoever was in charge of sprue layout? 🤔
What's the likelihood that GW makes a new version of this game? Will it feature Primaris terminators?
It bothers me that the Shadow war Armageddon was one of the last "Nice box" games.
Y'all, play more Steel Rift! We need to see a campaign in action with some support assest units!

Noooo - how can this edition be a legitimate TBT already? #soold

I agree, and just look at what Battle Systems do with regards to quality cars stock stuff too
I have the 2014 still on sprue nothing punched out 😁
practically all of my tiles from this set are warped horrible. And I've lost the one of the action counters for the Space Marine player.
Message me what you’re missing dude I’ve got parts on parts on parts
The second song slaps to the point where I didn't skip ahead. And I regret to this day that I didn't pick this game up when it came out...it looked so well done, but I think the price was too much for me back then...
