  • I recently had the pleasure of trying out Neewer's Ultra-slim ring light kit, and wanted to share my thoughts from an artist's perspective. Equally impressive, it works as an amazing tool to brighten my work space for detailed paintings and taking photographs of my work.

Everything you do looks great! With or without the ring light! I really like the look of your natural, "informal" as you've described them, videos too. They're very real and refreshing, compared to the plethora of over-produced, too slick UA-cam channels and "personalities" who seem to be trying too hard to brand themselves. They're just plain DISTRACTING. Your presence and channel are fresh, real and relatable. And your content is so interesting and informative. Thanks, Ellen!

Hey Ellen. I really like the realness of your videos. It’s your information that’s is the most important thing to me which is brilliant.

You've inspired me...I needed a good light for Instagram videos and just hadn't pulled the trigger. I imagine this would be good for taking photos of your artwork as well. Thanks for sharing your thoughts!

Thank you for doing this review! As a painter, I struggle seeing correct colors after sun goes down thus limiting my painting time. I've wondered if these lights help artists.

I have found this light to be extremely helpful. It wasn't intentionally created for this type of thing, but it works better than both of the Ottlites I own.

So helpful! I struggle to see in the evenings. My studio is in my basement and I have limited good light. A BIG thank you for taking the time to make this video :)

I too am a painter and have two lights, like you, trying to get the light just right especially after the sun has set and I do hate shadows as my eyes tire. This just might be the ticket! Thanks!

Hi Ellen, I`ve been using the ring light for quite a while now. What I found out is, that if I use it as an indirect light source, meaning I point it towards the ceiling or a white wall and have the reflected lightf rom there instead, it`s not quite as hard, but still enough light.

Have you ever tried having a non-glare version of lenses used in your frames?

Diana, what a great suggestion! I never considered this before; I bet it would be a great way to resolve the problem, thanks!

@@EllenBrennemanStudio The non-glare lenses didn't do squat. I think by the time my eyes need light they are a bit tired and any glare of any degree becomes an intolerable monster.

Hi Ellen.... I've seen other video creators using this light. Your pupils seem to be blurry, but that could be from your camera and I think your facial colors are a bit washed out but that could be because the light is too close or too bright. It may need to be farther away, but you'll work that out while you're making more videos. It definitely is bright. I'm going to check our your link below. Thanks. Hope you are having a great 2020!

Thank you for the feedback, John. There is most definitely a learning curve to these lights and finding the perfect arrangement is going to take some practice for sure. I will try putting it farther away, that may be the trick!

Great video. I just wonder how long the bulb lasts and how much it will cost to replace it.

Margarita, this is a great question and I've reached out to the company to ask about the lifespan of these lights. I will report back in this thread when I hear back from customer support. Thanks for watching!

I would contact the company directly with any questions you might have. They have a good customer service there. I don’t work for them so I’m afraid I can’t answer your question.

Hi Ellen, thank you for another helpful video. I immediately noticed the circular light's reflection in your pupils from the start. It was very distracting and unattractive. In retrospect, in regard to your previous video's, it felt very intimate with you sitting in front of your couch in low light. I say ditch the light for making video's, but use it while painting if it helps.
