I think a cool feature for the ranch would be the ability to ride around on the pets and hit targets or training dummies in order to get the hang of mounts even when you aren't going on a quest.

I'm a noob when it comes to dual-stick controller games so a training mode for the mounts would be cool

This could be good if u could do moving targets on a mount or off a mount
Tug of War Rope.
The player holds onto one end, the pet another, and as you tug further the harder it gets to go any further.
When at max length you start to wear out your pet and the let go, the rope slinging back to the player.
You can either press a button to release or have to button mash a key to keep a hold of the rope, the mashing becoming more demanding with the strain of the rope.

1:00 One minute in and I already love it. Having to abandon a run to get a new pet always felt bad. Doubly so when you were forced to dismount to beat a boss or enter a dungeon, and had to decide to forfeit your progress or lose your cool ride. This one tiny change makes it feel way better.

Idea: Pet Snacks
You can bring back any ammo you still have and turn it into Pet snacks that act like charms for your pets but they only last for your next run, after your run they go back to normal.
Also another thing that would be Nice is to make the calling for pets more noticeable because I always forget about it!
Your work is a clear example of "developing as a service" idea that the Subnautica dev introduced in his GDC talk. Hope everything keeps going well for your game, it's a real inspiration for me as a newbie game designer.
Hey lemon?/Liam? I had an idea for a creature for the swamp zone, the puddlefish. It’s a cuttlefish that uses its camouflage to hide in puddles and ambush prey that draws near, it’s special ability could be to turn pins/objects into mini puddlefish (because they were camouflaged) hope you like the idea

Not exactly a toy, but maybe there could be some sort of racing minigame?
How about making toys that certain pets like more than others? The swarm of pets is awesome, but what if you only want to attract one kind so you can find them?
That'd add a really cool function to a fun but technically pointless mechanic
i think since you can have a lot of pets in your house now, a training camp would be nice to test them maybe?

Allow the pet monsters to use some of it's animations/attacks in the ranch for more variety.
If you feel like that would we a little messy, only allow a monster to do an attack after it has fetched the ball. As a sort of "burst of joy".
That would be cool but maybe instead. Of a actual attack maybe it could be a little animation different monsters could react differently to toys like shrub hog could charge into the ball and so on idk theres so many possibilities

Patch Quest really is getting close to having the amount of features you'd expect in a big budget title like Pokemon or Monster Rancher or Dragon Quest Monsters, while being it's own thing. I'm a little too broke to buy it now, but if it's on sale in the Winter Sale I'll get it with my Steam gift card.
As for playing with your pets, how about a string for them to chase and pounce on?
Wow randomly viewing videos and come across you, how ya doing man, I'm also broke :( but I'm gonna get this game when I have more time and money, it's gonna be so feature packed it's really inspiring as an indie dev
being told i can play fetch with them makes it infinitely better in my opinion

That completionist thing is very interesting. It will keep the player engaged when trying to max out there monsters and allow them to do that in a reasonable amount of time.

I am trying to collect every type and colorswap of every mon at the moment! Desperately been wanting something like the ranch for awhile! Also loving the new charms since I played!
For the pet activities, maybe some type of racing similar to the Chao Garden in Sonic Adventure Battle 2? Perhaps either random 5 monsters can race, or you can choose? And they get some bond bonus upon winning? Or even something akin to the sumo/fighting aspect from Chao Garden SAB2?
How about an idle toy with which you could see how different creatures interacted with it, like one of those bobble toys. Or maybe a plushie toy that the monsters do tricks such as ‘sit’ for, and when you give it to them, they play with it. This might be hard to code though.
Yeah, I remember when this function was added to the Early Access game; it was so cool. Back then the game was updated regularly. Amazing memories!

Incredible! There are so many mechanics, but they all look interwoven so well, and the artwork is so crisp!
Loving this update, as the pets were the main thing that got me to buy the game! I've been collecting lots of them and it's really fun. However, I have noticed something that breaks the flow of the game, and it's that the monster themes often get replaced with the area themes, and it breaks the flow of the game somewhat. I think maybe there could be a setting that toggles "Dynamic Music" so that there's an option to have the monster theme play the entire time you're riding said monster. Apart from that though, I'm really loving the game! I can't wait to see where it goes next.

i preffered the "return with pet", it was way cooler and added that feeling "OH MY GOD THAT THING IS SO CUTE IM STOPPING EVERYTHING TO GET THAT".

It would be cool to add goals for like soccer in 2 player where you can mount each pet.
Another ideas is to have teams to explore certain areas.
Maybe vendor to appraise your pet or give it temporary boosts or ratings based on if Gold crown?
Maybe another screen for pets to play so they aren't as crammed Maybe some pets interact with each other. Idk

For the swamp maybe you should have an area where the battle rooms are not small squares but like 10 small squares together for you to explore
I'm waiting for the last zones to be released before I buy, as I want to be able to play the whole game at once.

Hey there! I've recently started playing PQ (got it on Autumn Sale) and I'm pretty much done with most everything (not Aurobos or coast dungeon) and am patiently awaiting the new update. I'm calling it now-- it's releasing on the new year.
This game would be GREAT on switch.

If I were to make a single suggestion, the bullet sprites seem to be on another plain to the characters. If they could be z sorted so sprites further down are 'ahead' of the bullets, or behind based on y position, it might be a bit better. Maybe just my preference. In current, you can always see the bullets, but they do block the enemies from view even if the enemies are technically standing closer to us.
You should make some monster-specific toys, or toys that have special interactions with certain monsters.

Could have squeaky toys shaped like the stat icons that you could get from bosses or something and then give them to your ranched pets to boost their stats passively like pokemon daycare 💁♂️
Fir the more toy ideas, I have 2:
One if them can be like with a laser dot toy cant have, it could be fun with right animation for the animals.
And the second one is maybe like a boomerang.
Also side note: I'm not sure how true it is because I'm not a game dev but does your program that you showed in one of your videos that helps the amination process for the pets in the game easier.
So will it actually help in the creating animations for the first idea I suggested?

personally i think it would be a good idea to let the player choose from a very large variety of set charms for each starting zone determined by whatever zone they decide to start their run in, i often find it very annoying ending a run and resetting just to get one of the charms i like
There should be a tab in the records menu that shows you all of the collectible charms.

Been enjoying the game with my friends for a while now, I remember when i first saw your "How Not to make an indie game" and instantly fell in love with your dedication, and the game concept as well, fast forwards a few months and i can't believe we are actually playing it and being part of his development.
As for the suggestions part, personally i feel like some "side activities" would be cool, you see, after long runs sometimes i wish i could take a break inside the game itself by doing other "fun" stuff, maybe "Monster customization" or"training",something among those lines, i know you are focused on greater things but still, i would love if exploration felt more rewarding because some times, when im on a rush i like to skip areas just to get straight away to the next one.
Last thing, and please dont hate on me for saying this, but i didn't like the change to "summons" they lost all their personallity and diversity and honestlly it was a huge downgrade from what it was before. Anyways, i can't wait to see what comes next, and congratulations for creating such an unique and awesome game, i'm glad i had the chance to find it and will keep sharing it to my closest friends.

I feel like you should make it where you only get super skills either from nurturing a monster for a long time to have a grind or when you capture a gold level monster so there’s incentive other than a crown and stamina to capture them because it felt kinda stupid to capture them
I hope the difficultly will scale differently in the future. Difficulty climbing is one of my favorite part of roguelike, but going from 1x to 2x to 3x harder just sounds exhausting.
even since like 2 updates ago, I really enjoy this game, and every update makes it exponentially better... time to collect all the monsters
although I gotta say, I liked the commentary more on the previous videos than on this one

you could play tug o' war with the lasso in the ranch
You should make it to where you can design and change the area of the Field but it’s like one big patch so if you change a bit of it the entire thing will turn into that Area
toys like slime rancher where they just get happy or toys like sonic adventure 2's chao garden where they have a play animation
I LOVE this, it's been a while since I checked in with this game and I love being able to keep these critters as pets, but PLEASE let us pet them eventually🥺🙏
It would be cute if you cute if you could play hide and seek with the creatures.
Like in a corner it was a pile of stuff, and when you walk over there it would ask if you wanna play and when you accept the screen go black for a second and then the stuff would placed around the ranch with the monsters "gone" so you go and find them.
Also if there are too many monsters you could choose like 8 or 10(idk) of your monsters to play with.
maybe one or two minigames pet related as a little thing to do when you get tired from exploring
Can we have a way to give the pets hats like give a hypnoth a cap or something so you can grow more attached to them

make a lazer pointer, or something similar that you can use for your pets to follow constantly trying to get it maybe some pets can use their abilities that they learn gain an advantage

you can use your mouse (obviously) to turn it on or off to use another toy with any of the mouse keys.
you can also put a detail of you character using an escape balloon while pointing the laser down at the pets. you can add that feature if you want
Would be fun if you can train pets like in pokemon. Give your monsters a skill tree to add more depth and customization. Train pets to learn new cool moves
