Based upon the eponymous Universal film franchise written and directed by Malcolm D. Lee, the series catches up with Harper, Robyn, Jordan, Lance, Quentin, Shelby, Candace, and Murch as relationships evolve and past grievances resurface in the unpredictable stages of midlife crisis meets midlife renaissance.
I agree about Shelby and Q. Best characters on the show. This is supposedly Terrance’s last project, as he’s retiring now, but he did that!

I think both Quentin and Shelby had the best character development.
Shelby was a bitchy brat and Quentin was a player but then they both seemed very faithful and loving toward each other. Definitely had their faults but they turned out to be my favorite couple.
At first, I was loving the series it was good it was Rich good conversations real until they made that man’s son gay. Why do they have to throw that in everything raise a boy right to be not to be penetrated in his behind by another man bad enough in the real world Magic Johnson got a big gay son now we got to do this initial it’s not even necessary just let manly men and women be women even in the show, I feel bad for Jordan, taking her career is more important than sitting down and having a husband and children at the episode four I was done
I was hoping that the storyline of Robin wanting to stay on the island would have been explained more. One minute that was her dream and the next they are back in New York.

Thats her character. Harper said it many times. She’s flighty. She gets passionate about something and then forgets it.
I think Robin was getting in touch with her need to connect to the earth, and her people, which is why she wanted to stay on the islands and her attraction to produce guy. They both represent something that she connects with.
This is my favorite tv series of the year. Classy and so true to life. All the actors , writers didn’t miss and showed us what we miss about the better days. We need more movies and shows like this, true couples and families and the black actors who deserve more shine in hollyweird

Robyn has always put more into the relationship than Harper. He only thinks of himself at every step and she just got tired.
Plus he always makes her think that it's crazy that she questions his relationship with Jordan and that she's insecure then goes around and still cheat on her with Jordan

I kinda wonder why Harper was chosen as the best man for Quinton (who's my favorite character next to Jordan and Robyn btw). It just seemed like they didn't have a friendship as strong as Quinton and Murch.
I apologize in advance for how long this is about to be. 1) I’m pretty sure Robyn knew about the thing with Jordan because she started asking questions about what happened that night after the premiere. Plus ,since he was offered a sequel solely based on him and Jordan, he started working on the script and left it on the table. When he looked back at it there was a voiceover of Robyn reading it, which indicates that she knows. Another thing is that the next day when the we’re at Lance’s while looking for Lj, she brought up his lack of transparency and then ignored Jordan when she said hi to her. Robyn absolutely knows, but was probably over all his bullshit. 2) While I 100% don’t agree with Robyn’s Ghana thing, I understand why she did it. It makes sense for her character to do something like that from what we’ve seen in the series, and Harper isn’t really there for his daughter as is. He’s always traveling for work, leaving dinner early to answer calls, or our with his friends. Yeah he’s a great dad when he’s home, but majority of the time Robyn has her. What’s gonna happen when Harper has to travel for work, or is he going to leave the dinner table every time they have dinner? My last point is that I genuinely don’t feel sympathy for Harper or Jordan, because of their cheating. He legit has had no growth from the first movie it seems and has no problem cheating on Robyn.

THIS THE ONE RIGHT HERE!! 🔥🔥🔥🔥 Harper and Jordan didn’t really “grow.” The only ones that grew were Q,Shelby, and Murch..

Robyn wasn’t cheating with farmer guy but she was definitely pushing the boundaries. Shes not innocent as this comment makes her to seem. She never voiced her concerns until damn near 10 years in the marriage. That’s unfair
I definitely agree with this! I could not stand Jordan or Harper in the movies or the series. I hated how they constantly disrespected Robyn.
I absolutely loved it!!! I could use another season. I’m glad that they addressed Shelby waiting 10 years to actually tell Quinton about Kennedy being his daughters. I think Harper was right for fighting with Robyn about taking Mia to Ghana. I’m glad Murch did the whole fighting thing. I just wish that Jordan would’ve found love.
I definitely thought Robin was gonna hook up with the island chick lol definitely here for it!! Finishing up episode 2 better than I expected 🥰

The final chapter left me wanting more. I LOVED it, especially Q and Shelby. Everyone did really well!
Damn I really hate Mia’s character dies, for some reason, she was my favorite character, she was so sweet and kind and the way she carried herself, i would love to see a prequel with the characters in college and the dynamics and them working their way to their careers and graduating
I wouldn't want a prequel because I enjoy the actual actors/actresses. They look great, but they wouldn't be able to convincingly play 20-year-olds. So, I wouldn't be interested. I think it's set it up to where it could be possible to continue with the kids though.
Great recap of the series. The cast and their chemistry is absolutely awesome!
Even with Harper’s and Robyn’s history, I was saddened by the outcome of their split, especially with their daughter now in the picture. I get it…there were clearly underlying issues and they had to make the outcome realistic, but I was really rooting for them to make it.
The show was good in my opinion! The writers are aware of these character's flaws and they expand on them! It shows that people have to work on themselves no matter how rich and successful you are! The zest is done with push back! Lance even checked Jordan and told her to stop encouraging it! That's real shit!! The couples support of each other is something we need to see on TV! The loyalty of the four male characters is something else we need to see! There are no crack dealers no shootouts no zesty love scenes! Sounds good to me!

It was so good! The way they ended it was perfect! The cast looked good, their chemistry was unmatched! I cried and I laughed! I really enjoyed!

I believe the first two episodes is the Film that Malcolm was going to do in 2015 involving Quentin’s wedding because the tone and years change in episode 3 and if my theory is true I’m glad he didn’t end the series with that because it wouldn’t have been a good send off
I absolutely loved it. It went at a perfect pace and kept me interest from beginning to end. Shelby was Q my fave.
Great review but it could have been longer lol! I totally loved this series! It really touched on a lot of current topics which was so great to see. Also Q & Shelby were the couple i didn’t know how much we needed 😂❤
On episode 4 now. I fell out when Candice talked about her dissertation looking like a crime scene. I totally related to that.
I think they did not talk about Candices situation enough I wanted to see the husband go in there and make some noise.I believe Harper fighting with Robin was natural Because call me selfish you not taking my daughter to Ghana And just casually throwing it out there blindsiding me. And i like How the q and Shelby and daughter situation wasn’t dramatic or drawn out

Honestly I’m team Harper. How are you gonna up and move your child across the world because of what you want to do. Also she wasn’t technically cheating with the farmer guy but she definitely wasn’t being right. Why did farmer guy need to buy heaters if the heat is out? I honest feel like society treats fathers as if they are second class citizens that have no feelings. Men are different from women they think differently.

Yeah, I thought Robyn was going to run off with the lady on the island. Major chemistry. They could still do that storyline in a future season and then the guilt about Harper and Jordan would be resolved.
I think taking that route with Robyn would've been better than that non-binary nonsense with Jr.
Their holiday parties were always just the crew because Mia used to plan them!❤
I really enjoyed the show! Shelby and Q are my favorite couple. My least favorite character is Jordan and has always been Jordan. Lol. That annoying ass Smile 🙄

As well as it should’ve beaten Thor. This movie came out when I worked at the movies, I must have watched it 15 times. They really did a great job of doing this. I loved it. I kinda dig how Harper is the main guy but he’s really kinda an asshole. It’s great
I think as an individual character Merch had the best storyline and acting. I didn't enjoy Harper or Robyn in this. I always felt that Harper should have never proposed to Robin it didn't make sense I felt he only did that to suffice Lance and to debunk the rumors about him and Jordan. I didn't think it was necessary to have Lance's son be gay.It was lazy writing the go to storyline. I would rather they had him going through depression and dealing with thoughts of suicide.
It was cool, just unnecessary to have that "topic" in everything we watch these days
I loved Murch's storyline as well. I enjoyed it the most. I also love his and Candice's relationship.

I can tell you are young with good eyes because you don't know why Shelby needed to cast that TikTok on the TV. 😭🤣 Her butt couldn't see it on the phone. She was having hot flashes, aches and pains and generally aging and fighting it. #Empathy
At the end Candice and some other ladies are on a magazine because they told on their abusers. That creep didn't get away with what he did to Candice.

First 2 episode was fine
But the rest going forward really brings the series up and it is the best in the franchise even doe i doe believe bel air was the better series but i thought this was fine just the first 2 episodes was a movie and than they went and did a show

This miniseries was close to perfect as it could be to end the story.
They explained why they were meeting her for the first time
It had great moments and the some preachy, overly social justice moments. Which the movies didn’t, and they should’ve stuck to that lol. Either way, it was pretty gratifying.
Disgusted with Jordan. You still wanted that lady man all these years.

I know that Harper was a loser from day 1. Cheated with his boy's girl and then turned around and wrote a tell all about it. However, in the first and second movies we still held onto the belief that deep down Harper is a good guy with a big character flaw. We rooted for him to make up with Lance and to get back with Robyn. We got the payoff. I know it is unrealistic but that's why we, the audience, tune in...we don't want real life. I was hurt when he and Robyn split. I could not sleep. Call me crazy but in the second movie we received nothing but FANTASY. Lance delivered a breech baby in an SUV while his boys drove him to the Giant's stadium to win the super bowl. Shoot, I am just getting over COVID-19, Quarantine and the BLM movement. I need my FANTASY!!! I only pray that there will be a second season so Harper and Robyn can somehow work things out. While Jordan goes blind and becomes a bag lady or is hit by a car :) !

Series was so messy, heavy handed, and generally bad, it almost ruined the first two movies.

I agree!!! So many unrealistic scenarios. And what happen to Robyn wanting to move to that island. Also, they know black people will not all site around and drink some mystery tea. 3 out of 5 stars for me.
