    Hey emmie
I am not sure if you will actually see this but i wanted to say it anyway
I’m in my senior year in highschool and for the entirety of my life i thought i would get into a stem major, and thats what everyone thought too looking at my grades. But for some reason 3 months before university applications started I became very unsure of what i wanted and who i was.
While i was on my journey of exploring myself and what interests me i came across your channel, and you along many other book youtubers encouraged me to apply for an English major which really was unexpected to those around me as well as myself, i was shocked. I finalized my application recently and i ended up applying for an Enlglish Linguistics major, hopefully I’ll be able to continue into translation field too. I do wonder if i made the wrong decision of going into something entirely different than what i expected myself to get into, but right now while i was watching your video, it was a kind of a reassurace. I know it wouldnt be easy but hopefully I’ll be able to fall in love with it just like you are.
Thank you so much emmie, you did change my life, and I’m sure many others as well ❤

I wish I had gotten to Emma's channel sooner. I did end up majoring in STEM and I hate it. I realized that perhaps I am better suited to linguistics of some form a little too late because I am already in my fourth year of this uni course. I am determined to find a work around through maybe a research career in academia until I finally get a career in the literary field because life is too short to be unhappy while fulfilling other people's expectations. So happy for you that you found yourself sooner. Wishing you the absolute best!!

“Awwwwow- OOF” at that price tag was so relatable lol.
Also, I’ve loved Shakespeare since I was a kid so I was prepared in high school, and the way my English teacher taught our class Romeo and Juliet I think is the only kinda proper way to teach Shakespeare to high schoolers.
We listened to the play while reading along instead of just reading silently, and so many more people understood it. Then afterwards we went to a Romeo and Juliet show with an interactive Shakespeare troupe who would jump into the crowd and things; it really brought it to life and so many people in my Deep South rural class suddenly loved Shakespeare. ❤ and it was because we had a great teacher who wanted to make sure they actually understood rather than just fulfill an assignment.
    Blessed are the English teachers.

Yes this is the way to do it. Bring it alive in an engaging way, but still when you’re young and developing interests. I had a teacher that did that with opera for us in 9th grade, and I love opera and classical music to this day. I wish I had better literature teachers in school. I’m 60yo now and playing catch-up with literature and history.

Haha when my library got rid of late fees I completely stopped trying to return books by their due date and just keep them for as long as I possibly can.
Although my library has a policy that if you keep books for 10 days past it's due date your card is blocked and if it it's overdue for like 21 days they'll fine you the full price unless you return it.

I have two video requests/ideas. One is a dedicated thesis planning/writing vlog and the other is a video about books that changed you/affected you the most. That could include books that were your introduction to certain genres or books that have characters who influenced you or books that got you through hard times. I'm always interested to hear about books that came to people at pivotal times.

Ever since I first encountered the spellbinding "Playing Shakespeare" series, artfully presented by the brilliant John Barton and featuring the extraordinary talents of Patrick Stewart, Judi Dench, Ian McKellen, David Suchet, and Ben Kingsley, etc I have loved Shakespeare. It was during my time at secondary school (year 8) that this transformative experience unfolded when it was introduced to me by my teacher, forever altering my perception of the Bard's works. Prior to that day, Shakespeare had failed to ignite a spark within me.

cannot believe you read Lispector!! i love this book but only when you said “macabea” i realized what book you were talking about since i read it in portuguese.
its silly but seeing my culture (and the one from my neighbors) being appreciated when that does not often happen makes me really emotional. (especially when its complimented by someone i respect so much like you). i guess im just trying to say thanks

It's funny that you talked about studying Romeo and Juliet in Year 10, and Hamlet in Year 12. They're same years that my high school, all the way over in Melbourne, Australia had me studying them. We also studied The Merchant of Venice in Year 8, A Midsummer Night's Dream in Year 9, and Macbeth in Year 11. For whatever reason they were a bit obsessed with Shakespeare in the late 90s-early 2000s. I enjoyed A Midsummer Night's Dream and Romeo and Juliet at the time, and have since enjoyed a novelisation of Macbeth, the others not so much.
I was wondering, is Eevee named after the Pokémon?
I was recently enemy #1 of the Yarra Plenty Regional Library system, here in Melbourne because my library has the same 'no late fees' policy as yours does and a few days before Christmas I realised they wanted to charge me for the two books I'd had out since October (I honestly don't think two months overdue is long enough to call the book 'lost', but anyway I digress). Fortunately, I wasn't at the $200 level of overdue, only $42.50 to replace the two books I 'lost'. I did the same as you, immediately took them down to the return chute (although I didn't clog mine with my pile because I only had two) and then went inside to see what new treasures I might find, spent about five minutes browsing (while also allowing the computer system time to recognise the missing books were returned and unblock my account) and then went to the self-service computer (my library is all about mechanisation and human-contact free visits, if that's what the patrons want) to check out my new finds. I'll do my best to not allow that to happen again, but like you I can't guarantee it, but fortunately, as long as I don't actually lose, or irreparably destroy, a book the fine is removed pretty much immediately and the account returned to active status.

I loved seeing Calcifer and Evie (forgive me if I'm misspelling that) together. Your description of them trying to play reminds me of my cat and my mom's dog - they try to play with each other, but cats and dogs just don't know the same games. Also, as someone who takes my cat for walks (on a leash), I loved seeing Calcifer's stroller.

I would love to read your paper, Emma. I will be buying a nice copy of Hour of the Star asap because I have a devastating genetic disorder and no one ever knows what I smile through because everyone is going through something, and I choose to rise above the pain. I really needed this. ❤

I work in a small town library. When people are a few days late, I call them and ask if they want me to renew their loans. If we speak, I’ll renew it until someone reserves it. The two time renewal max can be bypassed manually by an employee and honestly, I get it. Sometimes we just need more time. We have had some patrons which we asked if they could just come in and show us they still had their volume in good condition. We just want to make sure our books are being well taken cared of 😅 We recently had a day where anyone who came or called we would get rid of their debt, asking them if they had books they had kept out of shame they could just bring back free of charge…. All the students with projects 😂😂 They felt guilty, but really we just wanted the books back. Because ultimately we want the books and have no hard feelings 😊

I totally agree with you on not reading Shakespeare in high school! I took a Shakespeare class in college last semester that focused on Romeo and Juliet and I discovered I actually love Romeo and Juliet. You never know.
