Today we have a really special video; I was able to source a brand new, sealed iPhone 3G that has been in a box for 14 years! Thanks to @DongleBookPro we now have the opportunity to unbox this rare Apple time capsule that was sealed from the world since it was manufactured in 2008! Today we'll unbox it and see everything that comes with an original iPhone 3G for the first time ever!

Are you as surprised as I am about how this video turned out?! Vintage sealed Apple products are always a joy to unbox hehe
I loved the 17 inch macbook vid as well xD
Please make a video of how did you passed the iTunes activation!
you forgot 2 use da camera!!!
you're so lucky always wanted to have a 3G as back then everyone had one so I thought I'd get one for the collection so still hope to find that rare one you had.
Yes . I thought the battery was dead. It happens in old toys that people collect for years and years. They forget to take out the batteries and the toys lose a lot of their value.
We need Luke to make a video going through how not to get scammed when buying a sealed retro Apple product
It's simple: It's almost always a crapshoot and you get scammed most of the time. Don't buy sealed Apple products 😂
No
@@lukemiani Have you said anywhere already how much it cost you?
@@MightyRob1 those aren't that much.. its the 1st iPhone that's $30,000 plus for an unopened one 99% are Fake.. just ask everythingapplepro.
He is the WORST person to ask this
My Uncle actually used an iPhone 3G from about 2008 until 2016 when he finally got an iPhone 7. I was amazed that he got that much usage out of it, I'm assuming halfway through using it he couldn't really use it for most smartphone tasks and just used it as a normal phone, but he really did get nearly a decade of usage out of it.
Dang he took bang for a buck to whole another level
Not quite the same but my dad still uses his iPhone 6+ as a backup phone and it was used as the primary device up until last year pretty much. That's 7 solid years. Battery capacity is at 93%. I don't know how.
@@fVNzO LOL, I used an iPhone 6s plus up until 2018, then I upgraded to an XS Max...which I am still using (typing this comment with) today. 😁😁
I used a iP4 from launch day to the end of 2017. The longest I've had an iPhone. Now it's 3y average and then look for the newest model available.
@@fVNzO lol im still using the iphone 6s ios 14,.2 jailbroken
The first iPhones have such an incredible aura, they were truly special phones. While not the most beautiful, the 3G and 3GS are the most comfortable iPhones to just hold and handle. (However, I still think the 4S is the most beautiful!)
have 4s
No doubt about it, I am still sore and dont forgive apple for ditching this round back form factor and also for letting skewmorph go with Forstall. I got so pissed I switched to Android after iPhone 7.
Yeah there's something I do miss about that 3G/3GS design. Also those super tiny screens omg
iPhone 5/5s was the peak of the premium look, though the modern ones look very sleek with the bezels and home button gone as well.
@@TimurTripp2 I know a lot of people agree with you on that, but I respectfully disagree. While the 5/5S have some design aspects that I like, certain details like the camera being off-centre from the corner radius for example (the distance to the side is larger than the distance to the top) makes the design not as great for me personally.
I have to compliment your music selection here. It’s very refreshing to hear something like jazz as background music, instead of defaulting to lofi hiphop like every other youtube channel. It gives a nice, warm, laid back and intimate setting for the videos.
I can’t believe it’s already been 14 years. Loved the 3G
Love how Luke is even more excited to see the microfiber cloth than the phone itself😂 love your vids, man!
Well, unlike the phone itself, the cloth is, except for those in other sealed boxes, unobtanium stuff after all.
I have the iPhone 3G standing in an iPod holder in my window sill. It gets charged twice a week. I love the sounds of that phone, very iconic. And iOS 4.2.1 wasn’t flat.
The rounded, shiny back design of the iPhone 3G/3GS is something I always admired
I wish they would bring back the white laptops. I still have mine.
They did it again with the iPhone 7 jet black, that in fact used to get scratches the same way as the 3g hahaha
@@Karziu my wife had this phone. It was so pretty.
@@daviidfm923 I had it too and I'm still using it as a second telephone! One of the bests ever for sure
@@Karziu I still have hers but the battery is swelling. So it’s not usable.
This was my first iPhone back in 2008. Good times..
I love your unboxing vids of old tech and loving your channel dude
I had both a black 8GB 3G and a white 16GB 3GS back in the day. I only had the 3G for a few months before upgrading to the 3GS but fondly remember being mind blown at the capabilities of the devices. Though they were limited and slow (especially the 3G), the ability to connect to virtually any social media, most websites, and have apps to download was amazing. Because of the 3G networking I was finally able to use the internet in my rural house much easier, and I found myself preferring it over the junk usb hotspots of the day. The lifecycles of these devices were really amazing too. At a time when a smartphone was totally outdated in a year to two max, the 3GS got three full years of software updates to the latest version. The was virtually unheard of by any competitors. This even an advantage over the iPod touch which charged $9.99 for updates before iOS 4.
Luke, you’re probably if not my fav UA-camr in the current UA-cam
Please keep up with ur reviews, unboxing, mods, restoration vids
I never miss non of your videos
Love from 🇲🇽
Luke I’ve been watching your videos for the longest time and I can imagine all the effort that goes into them. Keep up the great work :)
This was my first iPhone. I remember having to trade in the power plug at ATT for one with a green dot. Must mean this phone came out after that recall.
These are some of my favorite of your videos: unboxing sealed vintage Apple products. (My fave was the 17 inch MacBook Pro.). This was a really good one, too! (My second iPhone was a 3GS so this was very nostalgic.)
I cant lie, at 9:46 when you went to cinematic b roll with the piano piece, I definitely got a few goosebumps
Identical to the first iPhone that I owned and used. So true about those earbuds! Thanks for the memories.
I never had one of these iPhones when they were new but I did buy quite a few of them in 2013 when I was buying, refurbishing, and selling iPhone . I have a few dead ones left from back then. The design was beautiful although it didn't stay that way long. Great video Luke, thanks for sharing your unboxing with us.
Awesome video Luke. I also had one of these, but 2nd hand.
I was blown away by these when I first saw them released.
The huge screen compared to the Android phones at the time. 😁
Love to see these old stuffs in today, I also have special feeling to them, they bring back many memories at that time, thank you Luke! Really enjoy your videos and happy as you do. (I also like to collect apple product, I know how happy it is😂)
Great find the original iphone was a game changer for phone design it really helped to move things on .
Fun video and great to see it worked after all this time,I have a first gen iPod touch that still works that I get out now and again to see how far we have come
Wow! Thanks for the flashback. I stood on line in Old Towne Pasadena, CA to get my first ever iPhone, the 3G. I stood there in the early days so the line wasn’t a mile long just the end of the block. It was black and max memory of the time, 64GB, I think? All we had then was Cingular/AT&T as they were transitioning then. I think it initially said Cingular then switched with an update later. I knew you had a late run 3G and maybe some eagle-eyed commenters mentioned this too. There’s a green dot on the power brick. That’s the fixed one. I had the original and got it replaced at an Apple Store later. I’m surprised it can still run on other than WiFi. Thanks for the memories Luke. I forgot about the OG Apple Cloth!
Wow that brings me so much memories with this phone, it feels like I’m back on 2009 unboxing my iPhone 3GS and I remember how incredible it smells inside the box like a brand new apple device, actually new devices have another smell soo much less stronger. That was the last iPhone with the incluidos microfiber cloth, it became too expensive for apple to incluido one in each device that they stopped doing it, the idea was replacing it for a Bluetooth free hands speaker, but it was so terrible and uncomfortable to use that they didn’t continued with that accessory too.
That was my first iPhone I waited for 5 hours for the AT&T store to open back in 2008. Enjoy your UA-cam videos very informative and entertaining
My first ever iPhone was the 3G. I remember, June 6th 2009 at the Liverpool Apple Store. One of the best days of my life at the time. Maybe even still. I was so excited.
being a phone collector and having seen hundreds of 3g’s, this is insane. these phones wear down and scratch so easily and the buttons fall out too. i seriously want one in this condition now
Love the shirt and so cool to see that, takes me back!
I had one of these when it was new and proceeded to jailbreak it for maximum versatility-I was able to use it tethered to create a mobile hotspot back in 2008 without paying extra for that functionality. It was a good tool when I was in college.
I was a freshman in high school when the first iPhone was released. And my first iPhone was the 3G that I got the end of junior year
Fantastic hack! I did everything you showed here and it worked! Thanks a lot!
Interesting unboxing! I've a sealed 3GS white, sadly I don't think it has the cleaning cloth as they slimmed down the packaging with that generation. But technically only a few months newer than the one you unboxed, and this makes me hopeful that it also still works! As for the last time I saw a brand new iPhone 3G IRL, I think the answer for most of your viewers is never.
My first iPhone. Got it in jan/2010. It was a beautiful phone, I remember just picking it up and looking at it for a minute from time to time just to admire the design.
Still have it, it's a mess right now obviously. The back is scratched af and it's missing the side buttons. Still works though. Sometimes I open the box and take a look at the Finger Tips manual just for the nostalgia. Apple stickers are also intact still.
I have an old iPhone 3G in my stash. However, the battery bulged and cracked the back of the device a few years ago...
This video certainly is nostalgia overload
ahhh brings back so many memories! thanks for a walk down memory lane!
Can't believe I owned this little thing. The 4S was my favorite of the little ones. I switched to Samsung S5 after that, then back to iPhone XS Max (my favorite iPhone at the time) a few years later. I have a bunch of oldies on a shelf in my ManCave.
Love these "unboxing a SEALED..."
love it!
love your vids keep the grind up
I bought mine in 09 . First shipment to New Zealand. Loved it used it for 6 years . Then g be ave it to my dad . I digitised all of his music off vinyl record onto the iPhone .
and he used it till he passed in late 2017. He loved it
I have restored it back to perfect just as nice as your brand-new one it’s such a beautiful thing.
I just purchased a sealed 4s also for my collection.
3G 16g , 3GS 32g , 4s 64g , SE1 128g , XR 128g and 13Mini 256g.
I love them all. Great vid thanks I feel your passion.
First got into jailbreaking with the 3g and ios2. Miss those early days of that scene.
My first iPhone and first _new_ Apple product was iPhone 3G that I bought in 2008. It was a huge game changer for me because I could actually move the app icons around and customise the screen to my whim. After four years of putting up with its excruciatingly slow performance, I traded up for iPhone 4 in 2010. I gave my father my iPhone 3G, and it took him a while to get the gist of "tapping", "touching", "touching and holding", etc.
Love that content 🤩
My first iPhone was the 3G in 2009, so this does bring back fond nostalgia.
I’m amaZed that the battery holds a charge.
My first iPhone was a 3G S, I loved it!
My first iPhone (the original wasn’t released in Australia) so this brings back a lot of memories. Had every one since then, but broke the tradition this year and didn’t get an iPhone 14.
Great job.
I started work iPhone 3GS and it’s great to see.
This was my first iPhone when i was 11,
So many memories when you unboxed it.
man I remember when my mom had one of these, the nostalgia hits you hard
I had the original iPhone and all the accessories and box. I only got rid of it about 4 years ago. It was interesting turning it on because it had all my old apps. It was exciting at the time because when I first bought it, there wasn’t an app store. Seeing videos like this make me regret getting rid of it a bit. 😅
Hey Luke! Very nostalgic!
I remember how the launch weekend for the 3G was the same weekend that The Dark Knight came out! Long lines everywhere at the outdoor mall in mid-July!
My first phone was an iPhone 3gs. Watching this gave me that rush of nostalgia for sure lol
I still have mine which I had since new. With its box too and the microfibre cloth still sealed and the Apple stickers still unused :) . It still works and holds good charge but the screen has some grey marks and its scratched up at the back. It was also water damaged when it was still new and the wifi no longer works.
iPhone 3G was the best at its era. Hes the big brother of iPhone 4!
J'en ai un (3GS) pleinement fonctionnel, quel plaisir de le voir, tout les matins, s'allumer, pour piloter mon iHome IP1.
I have one in pristine condition with the original box. I kept mine in an Otter Box Defender case the entire time that used it. I got it on sale for $99 in February 2010.
This is the type of thing that makes me want to buy an old beat up one and reissue it 😂 but it’s so nice to see a phone like this In such good condition
hi, great! I wish you good luck with your rare iPhone!!😘
this was fun
The first iPhone I ever got was the iPhone 4. I remember unboxing it and I'm certain there was no microfibre cloth. awesome video !
This was fun.
one of my small apple dreams
Such an attractive device.
yes! i am! nice vid luke! very satisfied 😀
IDK, I'm thinking "too soon" for the 3G line of phones. I still have a few from when I actually bought them new. had Treo's prior and then iPhone 1. It would be interesting to see openings of rare phones from other manufacturers of the era as well
This was insane
The 3GS was my 1st iPhone! Followed by a 5 Plus then am 8 Plus! I also have bought an iPhone cover each time I got a new one so the backs are pristine when I changed Phone!
The 3G was my first iPhone. I got years of service out of it. Awesome phone!!
They don’t make ‘em like they used to. That phone is a thing of beauty.
I had an iPhone 3GS an original iPhone with a great phone for the time I’ll never forget it
nice unbox
3:09 Just close your eyes 😂
DUDE WHY😂😂😂
My dad used his iPhone 3GS until about 3 ish years ago. Wild.
The iPhone 3G was my first one. It was eventually rendered barely usable by iOS4. However, I still have it
the one thing i have to say about this model was that it was the last of the models that all the internals were soldered flex cables. the iPhone 4 was such an upgrade to this phone externally and internally that the 3G was basically a childrens play toy afterwards
9:46 When the music kicked in i thought something went wrong 😂
It's beautiful..!
Yo. this was amazing
Cute! Would be cool to see what modern day apps still run on it.
Yo!! The 50th 😂
Great vid Bro!!!❤
Awesome my first iPhone was a 3GS memories brought back....... Wow 14 Years ago!!
This was my first iPhone. The original was way too expensive with terrible data plans here in the UK. I had a birthday party in a club and my girlfriend went round collecting donations from all my friends. The cash was then presented to me in an envelope with a photo of an iPhone on it by the burlesque dancer we had performing. There was so much cash that I bought the iPhone and it paid my tariff bill for the next year! That was a good party 🥳😎🤠
I still have my iPhone 3G which I purchased in 2008 with the box and all accessories. Last used as a media player in my shed but not for a while now. 🇦🇺
I had this phone but with the white back. I remember having the white one was a rare sight to see cause everyone would ask me about it in highschool
Cool video, I have an 18-year-old MP3 (creative jukebox) player with a 6gb hard drive still in its original packaging and one of the earliest digital cameras though I did use that quite a bit
6:42 i got pouches like that with my iPods in 2000s, i loved them, i still use one now as a wallet.
I used one of those for 3 years! ❤
That jazz 😊
Hi Luke, I'd like to see a video reviewing the best emulators for old Mac games. What's a good way to play an old floppy of Oregon trail?
I was on the line of a SoftBank carrier store in Japan to get mine 14 years ago..time flies !
The last iPhone before iPhones became ultimately hyped and mainstream with the iPhone 4
12:00 Damn those wallpapers really bring me back to my middle school days!
What fun it was to unpack the iphones..
I remember waiting in line 8 hours at the Apple Store to get this phone on launch day. I wanted it because first it had 3G not 2G. And second it had a GPS and Google maps and I needed that for a trip. I really loved that phone and used the heck out of it until I went android for a while and then came back to the iPhone 5.
I still have one of these that still works!
This was my 1st (and last) iPhone. At the time that I had all the Apple devices. I enjoyed it, but I converted to Android and never looked back.
My wife went the other way, she loves her iPhone, many years now getting every new generation since iPhone 7.
Haha, I was the black sheep of my family. Everyone was iPhone, I was using android because I could get custom OS'es.
I've since changed to iPhone because I like the simplicity. 😃
That was my first iPhone that I had, that was such a great product at the time.
