the difference is that those you mentioned won the GG for best actor in comedy. but when Andra wins the GG best for best actress in DRAMA over the 4 contenders in this category then there is no way she gets snubbed.
Andra Day poured everything into becoming Billie Holiday. Incredible performance from an acting and even vocal standpoint. Objectively I had Frances McDormand as the best actress in a leading role (the only performance that is irreplaceable with any other actress), but dammit, Andra’s performance is just too good to not at least consider for Oscar gold.

If you think this awards season is wack now, wait till you hear what I have to say. I’m in a MFA producing program in SoCal, and at least two of my professors are Academy members who vote on Best Picture. I won’t say who they are for privacy’s sake, but according to them, the Academy’s screwed up the voting process, so the members haven’t been sent all of the films on the shortlist, meaning these nominations are going to be all over the place AGAIN (also, they said that everything this year was too depressing to really be Best Picture material, except maybe Nomadland).
@@jdgg544 Probably Nomadland. But the thing is, they only told us about the situation because they wanted to know what they should nominate - from us, a bunch of kids. I threw out Nomadland, but some of my classmates had different picks; I think Trial of Chicago 7 was heavily mentioned.
I genuinely thought there was no sending of screeners/DVDs this year. Were all eligible films not in an online screening room that a lot of old people just couldn't handle?
One Night in Miami and Ma Rainey's Black Bottom not in Best Picture! I'm ecstatic cause when I watched them I was like why the hell are they in Best Picture talks?!
Yeah I watched Ma Rainey and did not like it and did not understand why it was even considered, there are certain films that I don't like which I understand why they are given a nom for best picture but in this case I was like, HOW? but I guess some members agreed with me.
I've just been staring at the Documentary Feature category for what feels like ages now. This category has caused me as much grief as Supporting Actress.
I would be happy if Mads Mickelson and Tahar Rahim gets a nod. Also the white tiger can play spoiler in Adapted Screenplay. Remember Priyanka Chopra Jonas is announcing the noms. She is the exec producer on The White Tiger
People have tried that logic before and it doesn’t help. In 2017/2018 they had Ansel Elgort go up on stage to present the two sound winners just to have Baby Driver lose both to Dunkirk
@@pb.j.1753 my point was that didn’t play into why they had her on. They don’t make those choices unless they are pre planned, inevitable things (like Scorsese winning Director). I thought that point was very obvious...
So are y’all just gonna ignore the Demon Slayer Mugen Train movie? In box office it made more than Soul and Onward combined. And they’re both Disney and Pixar movies... 😐
I'm gonna go bold and say Sofia Loren makes it in for Best Actress. The Oscars have done out of left field - no precursor noms before. And I feel like she could be one.
The performance of Minari is subtle yet amazing. As a korean American who grew up in Los Angeles I could still relate to Minari. The performances were spot on and realistic. Asian performances do not get nominated because ppl do not understand Asian realities. The way you guys critiqued Minari performances prove that.
I will give credit to the Minari Oscar campaign team. They made a lot of great decisions that led to Minari getting 6 Oscar nominations including Best Picture. They withheld their Oscar campaign to allow other movies get their Oscar buzz moment and eventually went all in on their Oscar campaign by highlighting Minari’s wins at the precursor awards. The winning speeches by Lee Isaac aching at the GG, Alan Kim at the Critic’s Choice Awards, and Yu Jung Yoen at the SAG’s were the highlights of the events. People cannot get over how cute their acceptance speeches were and how likable the entire cast were and that really helped their movie to be seen by enough Academy voters to get it to receive six Oscar nominations!
It's so strange to me that Murray getting Critics Choice and Globes love equates to nothing for so many people. On the Rocks wasn't on the longlist for BAFTA - I'd bet it wasn't even eligible - so really, he missed SAG. He's a beloved actor and a previous nominee. His performance is funny and charming and will appeal to Academy members. I agree the de Tavira comparison makes no sense - he has precursor love, and I won't be at all surprised if he shows up on Monday.
I wish I could be more excited about this year's Oscars. The 2020 Oscars were incredible, but this year I didn't get to see any of the main contenders (Nomadland, Minari, The Father, ...) because they haven't been released yet where I live. I still hope these movies do well at the Oscars because I can't wait to check them out once theaters are open again. But I just can't get excited for the Oscars
But Two Popes is NOT a comparison for the Father. Two Popes wasnt nominated at BAFTA best film. That's huge difference. The only precedence for The Father missing Best Picture is Carol and that was cold, lesbian drama. I think it's in.
@@FSportuguese I agree its great movie. I adored Carol! But a lot of people thought it was cold and it was not in AMPAS wheelhouse. The Father certainly is.
Also Don’t get too cocky with your animated feature predictions guys, I guarantee Shaun the Sheep Farmagedon will snub Over the Moon or Croods 2 for three reasons 1: the animation branch of the academy LOVES stop motion as at least one stop motion film almost always gets nominated. Plus Aardman is a academy favorite winning in 2005 for cruse of the were rabbit over Cars,as well in 2013 when they got a surprise nomination for that pirate movie 2: Over the moon under preformed at the Annies( the animation awards) witch most of those voters for the Annies are voters for animation branch. 3: Shaun the sheep farmagdon is a movie that would appeal more to animators then Over the moon/ Croods new age,as the film is basically a silent film by having no dialogue, meaning the film is told primarily told through the animation alone. (Also I could see this French Belgium animated film based on calamity jane be a surprise,as it did quite well at the annies, as well won best animated feature at the annecy international animation film festival which is basically the animation equivalent of Canes)
@@TheOscarExpert I think they changed the rule a bit that it was voted on by anyone who wanted to vote. I mean Klaus was nomtneid last year and that was really is a animators movie
I’d advise you to not predict midnight sky for production design because although you can say that passengers got nominated the midnight sky basically had a tent and a couple rooms with the same wall designs copy and pasted
disagree about your points regarding yeri han. i actually think she does a lot in the movie, it's just a restrained performance. her mannerisms and facial expressions speak volumes without her character actually speaking. i do think that the best actress lineup is nearly confirmed but i would LOVE to see a surprise nomination for her.
@@TheOscarExpert true. campaigning her for supporting actress makes more sense but no way would they get a double nom for the movie so i'm assuming A24 put her in lead so she has a shot 🤔
Your arguments against Alan Kim are a bit bizarre. Quvenzhané Wallis got an Oscar nom at 9 years old with only a CC nomination under her belt. He is very much a possibility since Minari seems very strong overall.
39:57 I saw Quo Vadis, Aida? in theaters last Sunday and absolutely loved it. I wish it was available for streaming right now so people who don’t feel comfortable going to a movie theater can jump on the bandwagon.
@@gokcentatar5840 and Bradley Cooper. They used to do it more often in the 1990s but now the Director's branch is really an inner circle. They do their own thing.
@@jonathanvelazquezph.d.2719 But Affleck won every single director award. Even DGA. And they snubbed him anyway, because he is also an actor. So Regina King is not happening.
@@gokcentatar5840 Yup, I agree with you. Just like Bradley Cooper and Ben Affleck who were actors-turned-into-directors it seems like Regina King might not get that director nomination.
Idk I feel like they’re gonna nominate Regina King. Yeah she wasn’t in the DGA top 5 but that’s because she was in a different category that she’s probably going to win. I feel like they’re gonna snub either Fincher or Sorkin in her place
Regina's not happening, her directing isn't showy enough. The directors branch is the only people who nominate directors and they are a very closed inner circle-- and they love showy directing. Fincher could miss and but he would never miss for King.
I understand the weirdness of award categories (The Martian) but Jodi Foster is plainly the Lead in The Mauritanian. Even if she doesn't have the most minutes (I don't know) it is her story and most of the flashback material is material presented to Jodie Foster for the purpose of affecting the lead character. Her. And even if she isn't the lead she's obviously THE LEAD ACTRESS. Who else is the lead actress???
I think you guys are underestimating the near certainty of the Nomadland for Sound. I hate to be disrespectful in pointing this out but Zhao’s Sound Mixer just passed away right near the start of voting and they dedicated the CC wins to him. That narrative will be pretty well known and will easily get the film a nom
Death Oscar bumps are not really a thing obviously. Especially not in the crafts. Now let that man rest in peace and not use him as some loony prediction arguments.
@@quanglinhtran8956 I think it shows that her performance isn't that well liked among loads of people and particularly when she's competing in one of toughest categories. But I may be completely wrong!
I always get confused when you guys talk about the 8 to 10 nominations in Best Picture, the academy posted new rules for representation and inclusion in the beginning of 2020 and one of the new rules that was going to be implemented in this Oscar already was the “guaranteed 10 nominations in Best Picture”... or did I get that wrong??
I'm sorry, but I just have to point this out because it's been bugging me for a while. The title of the Life Ahead song is "Io (with an I) Si," not Lo Si. Pronounced "ee-oh". A dumb nitpick but as someone who speaks Italian I felt the need to preach that uselessness just this once.
I love you both. You guys are doing a fantastic job! Keep those videos coming 🙂 Oh, and bring the fluffy cat back...just not for your reaction videos 🤭 they get easily startled. 🐯
I think these are the most likely to get snubbed: Aaron Sorkin, Regina King, Lee Isaac Chung, Glenn Close, Gary Oldman, Steven Yeun, Andra Day, Olivia Colman
Lee Isaac Chung is so underrated compared to the other directors rn 🎬. But we cannot overlook the fun fact that Minari 🌱 was only shot in 25 days and that this was Lee Isaac Chung's first big-budget film. That is talent right there 🎥
@@michaelangelo2192 no, I don’t believe it’s ineligible for sound. From what I heard someone behind the sound in the film admitted that they really didn’t do that much, the person who did the score apparently mixed a lot of the film. The sound branch can be super pretentious with stuff like that, and they will choose to not nominate a film if they don’t want to acknowledge certain people/their lack of work
I wouldn't quite put Jodie Foster in the Kathy Bates camp, because last year they were basically scrambling to fill in 2 slots. They were never gonna nominate J. Lo and they sadly were never gonna nominate Zhoa Shuzhen. Here it's a far more competitive lineup.
@@richardlugali2690 i am not talking about international category , i am talking about another round in its international category and minari in main awards

@@cm5575 It is odd that Yeun got in because it's not the showiest performance whereas Lindo's and Rahim's are. Yeun's more subdued and he didn't really have any big "Oscar moments" in the movie. I guess he got caught in the wake of the "Minari tidal wave" with Oscar voters.

Chloe Zhao (Nomadland)
David Fincher (Mank)
Lee Isaac Chung (Minari)
Emerald Fennell (Promising Young Woman)
Darius Marder (Sound of Metal)

Imagine if Andra Day gets snubbed like James Franco and Taron Egerton did? I won't predict it though.
Yeah, I was thinking the same
I won't predict Andra Day ! I believe think Rosamund Pike will receive a nomination !!
the difference is that those you mentioned won the GG for best actor in comedy. but when Andra wins the GG best for best actress in DRAMA over the 4 contenders in this category then there is no way she gets snubbed.
@@thearabicmusicland I agree.

Seen all the movies except Sound of Metal (will look for it)or Mauritanian-only in theaters but will see this week.
I think our jaws will drop monday morning. :D Get ready for it. Some big snubbs are happening.

Dang supporting actress really has ZERO locks
truth. colman is probably the closest to a lock.
Very interesting to hear. What are your nomination predictions based off of what your professors have said?
Agree, they're not that good
I completely agree on the lack of Delroy Lindo and Da 5 bloods being a lock is despicable!
Haha they didn't even have Thomas Vinterberg in their top eleven. This year is fucking wild.
I live in a society, and I have Jared Leto at number 5
@@Lamidemonami7891 the white tiger got that Oscar nom so what is your point exactly
@@pb.j.1753 my point was that didn’t play into why they had her on. They don’t make those choices unless they are pre planned, inevitable things (like Scorsese winning Director). I thought that point was very obvious...
Im predicting a Seyfried snub , a Tahar Rahim nom, and i hope both Judas and Sound of Metal get in
So are y’all just gonna ignore the Demon Slayer Mugen Train movie? In box office it made more than Soul and Onward combined. And they’re both Disney and Pixar movies... 😐
I'm gonna go bold and say Sofia Loren makes it in for Best Actress. The Oscars have done out of left field - no precursor noms before. And I feel like she could be one.
The Best Actress lineup is a dream, almost too good to be true.
It would be weird to me if the Golden Globe Drama Actress line-up actually all get nominated. I sense a heavy snub.
@@pb.j.1753 I hope they don't snub Mulligan. It's her year.
@@pb.j.1753 Me too, but also thinking someone else can sneak is weird. Sophia Loren, Sidney Flanigan or Yeri Han can upset.
I did not like The United States vs Billie Holiday but Andra Day was amazing in it and honestly is worthy for the nomination.
@@christianknight727 Same, the movie is awful but she's amazing
I agree
i loved him in the film. it would be a deserving nom.
I feel the white tiger will get into adapted screenplay off WGA and Bafta.
It's funny that nobody really knows about The Glorias because it's been available to stream on Amazon Prime for a while now.
They might not like Tenet, but still snubbing it for cinematography and score would be dumb
Sorkin wit da director snub
I thought the GG was irrelevant. How the BAFTA surpassed that😂
GG was never irrelevant. They always set the tone as the first televised award show of the season. Always have, always will be an important precursor.
@@pb.j.1753 think he means in this particular year
They’re not irrelevant, they’re just racist.
@@Gemnist98 how is nominating 4 poc in every acting category racist.. They’re making up for years of all white categories
@@cillianhowley4907 I was talking about the HFPA controversy, not the nominations.
Makes no sense that Borat is an "Adapted Screenplay" when most of the brilliance of the film is the improvisation.
Mike Leigh got a couple of Original Screenplay nominations and that guy never works with any scripts lol
But Two Popes is NOT a comparison for the Father. Two Popes wasnt nominated at BAFTA best film. That's huge difference. The only precedence for The Father missing Best Picture is Carol and that was cold, lesbian drama. I think it's in.
Carol is a great movie ,sadly it wasnt nominated for best picture
@@FSportuguese I agree its great movie. I adored Carol! But a lot of people thought it was cold and it was not in AMPAS wheelhouse. The Father certainly is.
The top 3 movies are Trial, Nomadland and Minari. These three will battle it out for best picture.
Also Don’t get too cocky with your animated feature predictions guys, I guarantee Shaun the Sheep Farmagedon will snub Over the Moon or Croods 2 for three reasons
1: the animation branch of the academy LOVES stop motion as at least one stop motion film almost always gets nominated. Plus Aardman is a academy favorite winning in 2005 for cruse of the were rabbit over Cars,as well in 2013 when they got a surprise nomination for that pirate movie
2: Over the moon under preformed at the Annies( the animation awards) witch most of those voters for the Annies are voters for animation branch.
Fair points, though you have to remember that animated feature is no longer voted for by the animation branch, it's voted by the whole academy.
I love her performance, I think what bb meant is that she doesn't have a ton of screen time for a lead performance and doesn't do any shouting
@@TheOscarExpert true. campaigning her for supporting actress makes more sense but no way would they get a double nom for the movie so i'm assuming A24 put her in lead so she has a shot 🤔
Can someone explain to me why people hate Jared Leto? I think I missed something.
I don’t think it‘s about Leto himself. It’s about The Little Things that is not considered good let alone an awards contender.
Watch out for Another Round in Actor and Director, mark my words.
I can see on your Gold Derby predictions that you got all 5 directors right. That's some cool ass shit right here, congrats.
Maria bakalova winning for that movie is insane
Your arguments against Alan Kim are a bit bizarre. Quvenzhané Wallis got an Oscar nom at 9 years old with only a CC nomination under her belt. He is very much a possibility since Minari seems very strong overall.
I think they meant that Kim won in the Young Actor category, not in Supporting Actor whereas Wallis was nominated in Lead Actress at CC.
@@heekamalokilo7194 Yeah. But Alan has BAFTA. They can dismiss the new voting system for the rest of time, he still has that nomination.
39:57 I saw Quo Vadis, Aida? in theaters last Sunday and absolutely loved it. I wish it was available for streaming right now so people who don’t feel comfortable going to a movie theater can jump on the bandwagon.
I really hope Regina King gets a director nom. One Night in Miami is underrated imo, should be up there with Nomadland & Chicago 7
They really hate actors/directors stuff. Even Ben Affleck snubbed
her direction is really uninspired, it’s a good job but no one is championing it
@@gokcentatar5840 and Bradley Cooper.
After Glenn Close got a razzie nom, there is no way she can get an oscar nom for the same movie and role
Agreed!
Oscar nominations voting already closed 2 days before the Razzie noms. Why should it matter or affect anything?
@@quanglinhtran8956 I think it shows that her performance isn't that well liked among loads of people and particularly when she's competing in one of toughest categories. But I may be completely wrong!
I think Glenn still gets nominated, but the Razzie nom severely hurts her chances at winning now
Sandra Bullock received both Razzie and Oscar nomination. So what?
I really need Carey Mulligan to get a nom and win. She was great in that movie
If Leslie gets an Oscar and he already has a Tony. Daaaaammmmn. 👏👏👏
Why have 10 slots in best picture if they never fill them 😂
I always get confused when you guys talk about the 8 to 10 nominations in Best Picture, the academy posted new rules for representation and inclusion in the beginning of 2020 and one of the new rules that was going to be implemented in this Oscar already was the “guaranteed 10 nominations in Best Picture”... or did I get that wrong??

@@michaelangelo2192 no, I don’t believe it’s ineligible for sound. From what I heard someone behind the sound in the film admitted that they really didn’t do that much, the person who did the score apparently mixed a lot of the film.
