This lecture was a excellent exposition of the Lutheran view of election and conversion. However, I still find the Lutheran view to be a somewhat confusing mix of the Calvinistic and Arminian views. Dr. Phillips’ illustration of the “black box” mystery is a biblical solution of sorts (38:30 & 53:52). Concerning conversion, “The Word flows in and faith flows out … we don’t know what happens in there, but God does.” Likewise, election is “the eternal version of conversion.” With regard to faith, I don’t agree that it should be considered a work just because it’s something we do (1:04:04). That’s a confusing way to speak about the subject. Faith is not a work in the biblical sense because Paul spends so much time contrasting the two (ex., Eph. 2:8-9, Rom. 3:27-28, etc.).
Define “Election”? In my opinion Election doesn’t necessarily mean that you are saved. For instance: The people of Israel are the Elect people but not all Jews are saved.
St. Paul addresses this thoroughly in Romans 9. Israel was an elect nation, but from the time of Jacob and Esau, "not all who are from Israel, are Israel" (9:6). Election operates at the level of individuals.
So if man calls the shot,,no God's call.will of man lost in the woods.on the path that he had walked. Now lost, all in your mind..not lost ,led by a nose ring in the bulls nose..Jesus saying come, come, even in mans feebleness..exhalted in humbleness..a child or man.mans or God no man playing ,I know the plan 🤥🎭🕵️
1 Corinthians 15:57 KJV
57 But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
Luke 11:28 KJV
28 But he said, Yea rather, blessed are they that hear the word of God, and keep it.
Incredible presentation. Really appreciate your articulation of the matter and the use of diagrams.
Thank you!
