I love how Susanna sings covers that rival the original in quality. Another is the Burt Bacharach song "The Look of Love" from the first "Austin Powers" movie. It may not surpass Dusty Springfield's version, but it doesn't take a backseat either. And in my personal opinion, I like Susanna's version better.
I'm just finding out about this wonderful tribute to Prince. You did so amazing. He would be proud & is smiling down on you. I also learned he wrote the song Manic Monday. I've loved you since the time you first appeared on American Bandstand w/Dick Clark. Best of luck on your future endeavors. Your an icon & are deserving of the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame along w/your bandmates.
Yes Miss Suzanna, I just played Princes' version then yours and you stayed true to the original song . But I'm a little more attracted to yours naturally. You really reach me , or maybe I'm just a good receptacle. It feels like tingling sensation . Vaya con dios mi amiga.🙊🙉🙈
So love it! Only a handful of people get a pass to sing to sing Prince's songs and you're definitely one of those people. Oh, and thank you for not turning the song into something else. I bet Prince would love it!
no kidding :) this is a good fit and thats rare, usually with Prince its a good rule to say 'don't bother covering it!' because Prince himself often knew a couple of different ways to approach a song and would shop singles to other artists and record his own version. the rule seems to have somewhat broken with his passing and a lot of the tribute songs are exceptionally heartfelt
Arthur Seymore Jr. Rumor has it that he gave her that song in order to get her to sleep with him. Which amazes me that there'd be a woman that can resist him.
Splendid job Susannah! Bravo bravo. Prince's music like Beethoven is complex to emulate, re-create and therefore demonstrate. And saying that, this song was astute. The true essence of a gifted musician as you are. Beautiful homage friend.
LOVE IT!! And U 2, Susanna! ❤ This is one of my favorite Prince songs and has been since Purple Rain came out. I don't know if you view these posts (probably not, I am sure you are busy; so, this is a "message in a bottle" comment), but if you do, I have a question: Do you have a home studio you record in? And -- how many guitars do you own? :-)
Thumbs up, in every positive way that you can possibly interpret the gesture. Kudos on handling this magnificently well. You were quiet these last two-and-a-half months ... you seemed subdued. It's the strangest thing ... I have been wondering what you'd do next when feeling energized again. As recently as yesterday, and for the first time in months, I made a point of looking at the Baroque Folk channel on UA-cam, to see if you'd posted anything new. It seemed logical that you'd publish a new song on this theme. That it would be so perfect, I didn't expect. You surprised me even with my stratospherically high expectations of your creativity and your sense of subtlety. I'm thinking how well several things blend: this song ... "We want each other oh so much ... Why must we play this game?" and the lyrics of your "True" song.... "We dance around the truth, somber and aloof, and we skip over the facts, just like actors" ... as I read you, you have always felt much cultural pressure to subjugate and hide your true feelings, and to communicate them subtly. You do so magnificently well. Even so, I do fondly anticipate the day when you stand up and say "no" to that, and come out as yourself with a formal repudiation of game-playing, dancing around the truth, skipping over the facts, and so on. How close is that day? I would guess it's very close. Two more things that blend well are the lyrics in this song: "I don't care where we go, I don't care what we do ... Just take me with you" and the spirit in "One Day" ... "I'm gonna white out all of my past ... one day I'm gonna make my own mind change ... I'm gonna toss out all of these thoughts and forget who I've been ... without name, without face, without pride, I can finally begin." Putting those two things together tells the story of someone who is about to make a much-needed and abrupt change, almost like escaping from a prison, albeit one based on cultural norms that she accepted officially yet has found irreconcilable with her personal happiness since ... perhaps, since her teenage years. She’s ready. No more wasting time. Two more things that blend well are the story I wrote a few months ago, of two girls driving away together, and "I don't care where we go ... Just take me with you." Another triple match consists of the lyrics in this song "All I want is to spend the night together ... all I want is to spend the night in your arms" and the lyrics of "My side of the bed" and the story I wrote a few months ago, of two girls waking up in bed together on a happy Sunday morning, and their emotionally intimate, caring dynamic. I think it’s a pearls-before-swine tragedy if someone so talented and energetic publishes an entire album that goes unappreciated as to its target audience. It’s now four or five years later, and ironically this one song is probably being appreciated more than the entire “Someday” album is. Thank you for doing this. What’s next? I’m thinking …
Oh yea I was thinking the same exact things just the other day ots almost like you stole the words right out of my mouth. I just vantage belive that we were thinking exactly the sa MMB e thoughts about all the things she does and I too am excited to see her cone out as her and do her. Wow were connected spirits. According to the MTV documentary "Inside the Music", Prince did have a crush on Susanna Hoffs but they never dated. Susanna wasn't interested. The producers and record label executives admitted that they never quashed the rumors about them dating because it was good publicity. But Susanna is very conservative due to her jewish upbringing, and was very conservative about her personal life. In fact, she admitted in an interview that the famous line in Manic Monday, "Come on honey, let's go make some noise" was always unconfortable for her to sing, and she hardly sings that line anymore.

Not many people know that Lisa Coleman sang the bulk of Apollonias part in "Take Me With You" . Prince and Lisa did some very creative magic in the studio to make it sound like it was Apolonia singing it solo with Prince when it was more or less Lisa. Apollonia is NOT a very good singer and needed all the help she could get. So if there ever was a contest between Susanna Hoffs and Apollonia as singers, then i think Susanna would win hands down.
@@billmurray7473 She was a hot woman, no denying. She certainly would not have gotten the job had she had not been. There were hotter women out there but Prince found her hot and that was all she needed for her big break.
Great job Susannah!
I'm just learning how much Prince was respected as a guitarist. Legends like Eric Clapton even recognized his greatness.
MikesAvenger Eric Clapton said Purple Rain saved his life and saved Rock music at the same time
I have always respected prince as a guitarist
😆 🤣 😂
You still got it Susanna, Prince would be smiling down at you.
Her voice sounds as sweet as ever!
I'm so mesmorized of her voice ❤️
But not spelling or the meanings of words.
Thank You. Prince Would Be Happy 💜🕊🕊🕊🕊🕊🕊🕊💜 ☔
Beautiful cover and tribute Susanna to one of the greatest musicians ever lived... and still love your voice.

Good choice of words.
"Stripped Down".
You really mean Unplugged.
