@Nikioko I don't know who that is but being in the public eye like that can have that effect especially if you're young when it happens but also she really is just a kid you'd think the adults in the room could have more class and maybe act like adults
If it’s totally the same production team them I could see that cause that was part of why Chris only did one season as the doctor he couldn’t get along with the production team all with some personal issues mixed in
It's a only a problem because it's announced. Already Ruby has more in the can than Bill or Donna (until the 60th). And as much as Martha. But like Chris Eccleston, knowing they are leaving so soon feels wrong.
Millie is like what 20? Makes me wonder if she wanted to be able to have more of a life while doing Doctor Who and wanted to go for nights out, but the shooting schedule wouldn’t allow it. Perhaps she wasn’t really prepared for the commitment. Think Billie Piper said that she didn’t enjoy not being able to be a normal ‘young person’ when she made Doctor Who
This isn't her first acting role. She's got more experience than Billie Piper did in season 1. I'm pretty sure she understands the work involved with acting...
@@RJA I work in TV (in production) and one of my mates had far experience than me and he quit a show we were working on because the night shoots through the winter made him miserable and he missed how it took over his life
I think Doctor Who is the only show in the world where cast members haven't even started their run, and everyone's already talking about when they're going to leave
This might seem incredibly optimistic, but is anyone else kinda hoping it's part of the story - like in the audios where the Doctor had adventures with Mary Shelley between adventures with Samson and Gemma. Or maybe it's a time thing in the storyline like with Bliss in the Time War sets...
Theres a fine line between 'reading between the lines' and 'seeing things that arent there'. The video does the first, says others are possibly guilty of the latter. Arguably both are the same thing though. The lack of anything official creates a vacuum for anything to fill. Russell has history of pivoting from characters if its a good story too. Phil was offed in Queer as Folk, Ianto in Torchwood, Colin in Its A Sin, heartbreakers all those in Sin. I understand the point the optics and the rumours, but equally he lets characters go for story too. Good video.
It seems like there is a strong level of classism at the BBC, the divide between north and south rearing its head once again. i could be spouting arrant nonsense however where there's parallels there is reasonable suspicion in my opinon.
The thing that doesn't really make sense to me about the idea that she's been pushed is... Why halfway through S2? Any issues with Millie and the production - on both ends - would have been known about by the end of S1's shooting, surely?
They shot series 1 and 2 back to back so not really no. It was originally assumed she was staying on for all of series 2 hence why people are speculating she got sacked
Martha, Donna, Bill, Dan. All of them are only in 1 series of the show. Martha left in series 3 and came back for 5 episodes out of 13 for series 4. Millie could leave at the end of season 1 and then (like Martha) show up for 3 episodes out of the 8 in season 2. (Percentage of wise she’ll be in Season 2 more than Marta was in series 4)
I assume it was supposed to be the big finale twist? with her mum/her being the this seasons mystery, so they won't confirm it because of how confirming 9 leaving 'ruined the twist' at the end of season 1?
RTD has NEVER written a series finale that didn't involve either a companion or the Doctor leaving the show. Its completely ridiculous that people are pretending to be surprised or upset
honestly this whole production started because tennant, tate, rtd, gardener and tranter are all best buddies and wanted to get the gang back together. now its just the main trio of producers with up and coming actors eager to get ahead in there careers. But id honestly feel all fresh starts in the series have had rocky productions. The only eras i see tat didnt have much turbulence was series 8-9 but i think that comes down to the main actors all being well established in the industry and having a now solid production after getting it started during the smith years.
The Stranger was Colin and Nicola playing Not-The Doctor and Not-Peri (with one episode featuring naked Sophie Alred for some reason). The Airzone Solution was an environmental thriller where they play a couple and Doctors 3, 5, 6 & 7 team up to defeat Michael Wisher's evil capitalist scheme to pollute the atmosphere. And it only makes sense if you approach it as a Doctor Who reference rather than a standalone film lol
We don't know anything about the context yet. Millie will still be in season 2. It's a shame this has come out like this with no-one really knowing what is going on or what the bigger picture is for the show.
Why the fuss? Martha Jones, Donna Noble, and Bill Potts were all one seasoners ( despite Donna returning for the specials) , not to mention the companions in Classic Who that only did one season. It’s not a big deal unless you make it a big deal.
While mid-season cast changes are uncommon, they're not entirely unfamiliar to Doctor Who, Season 3 had tons of mid-season cast changes, Season 14 had Elizabeth Sladen leave mid season, and Louise Jameson join mid-season, Season 18 had several quick fire cast changes in its second half, Season 20 and 21 had several cast changes mid season, Series 5 has Arthur Danvil their half the time and the other half not and Series 7 has the first third with Karen Gillan and Arthur Darvill and remaining two thirds with Jenna Coleman, hell even Big Finish have done it with the Eighth Doctor Adventures Series 4 having a changing cast. This isn't new, but it does feel very chaotic.
I kinda of agree to an extent, but I feel as if it is a little disingenuous to have the comparisons of classic who, new who, and big finish, in terms of production they are all three very different beasts. Within the context of new who, a companion joining and/or dropping mid season is a rarity. Jack and Adam in Series 1 and Rory in Series 5 are the only ones I can think of, yes Series 7 is Amy and Rory/Clara but it was pretty clearly labelled as 7a and 7b signalling that these are different enough parts of the season to warrant the distinction, so it's debatable as if this should count (not saying your necessarily wrong just saying its debatable.) Looking at the whole timeline of the show yes this isn't exactly a rarity, but in new who specifically? But I do agree that I think this isn't the craziness that people are bringing it up to be.
I genuinely don't understand why everyone is so freaked out over this. Companions on new who often only last a season. Martha, Donna, Bill. I'm not sure why this is big news.
I find this utterly disgraceful, because whether she was a diva about night shoots or not, Millie Gibson is only 19 at the end of the day and so of course professional or not. She will Express exhaustion, or her feelings about doing that kind of thing. The BBC and Doctor Who team in particular have already disgraced Christopher Eccleston, and they’re out to disgrace another actor, intentionally or not and this one is even younger than Christopher Eccleston was at the time.
This is not KES leaving ST:VOYAGER, that maybe might be attributed to her being on HARVEY W's informal "blacklist" in addition to her having issues in her personal life. It instead might be cold, clear & logical career path decisions, stemming from the way the story arc is being written. The Doctor is a Time Lord, with River Song we had seen her passing in her initial episode becoming a prophesy as to her future/present involvement with #12. IMOHO i am hoping RTD plans to have RUBY SUNDAY return from time to time, in a manner similar to #10/14 with U.N.I.T... despite the arrival of a new companion for #15 and maybe easily at least a new riddle to solve. We might see the Toymaker and/or the Master being back, ...due to the gold tooth being retrieved by a big black silken gloved hand in addition to the rather flimsy way the Cosmic/Celestial Toymaker was stored away!!!
20:00 You are very correct on the original script's focus on RUBY SUNDAY's character development & back story... and DISNEY was extremely correct in demanding... "WHERE IS FIFTEEN?" knowing that the 3 other X~Mas Specials gave #14 a sweet & looooooong open ended rather confusing goodbye. DISNEY needs a hit after a year & a half of major blockbuster movie flops. RUBY and #15 have a chemistry, both can actually ACT!!!! The MIRROR is clearly a tabloid stirring the pot, badly... to generate clickbait.
16:40 Also, Varada is British and since every present-day companion *has* to be British now 🙄 (and we likely won’t get a past-time companion), it makes sense to cast Varada.

I called Ruby Sunday's character arc right after she was announced, and you could have too, because what else can Ruby Sunday be but a reference to the Rolling Stones song Ruby Tuesday? Duh. I am more sad I was the only one who was calling this for months, with no inside information, no sources, and you guys ignored what was totally obvious to anyone with a brain. How much more blatantly obvious can it be guys? "She would never say where she came from. Yesterday don't matter if it's gone ... No one knows, she comes and goes ... Don't question why she needs to be so free ... She just can't be chained." How much more obvious can it be what RTD intended from the start? Do you need RTD to come to your house to tell you what he is thinking?
Just seeing the character of Ruby in the Christmas special was kind of boring. Also, to me she is a Clara lookalike. I didn't really see great chemistry there with the Doctor, either.
I'm hoping the new companion comes from the Khan or Chandra family it would be nice to have a companion that comes from a family that has had links with the Doctor that would be interesting.
Millie Gibson doesn't even turn 20 until June. I don't believe that someone that young, who is mostly unknown, would throw their weight around. Perhaps RTD isn't just a fan of Joss Whedon's writing, maybe he likes to treat his actors the same way as JW too.
@@jakeoliver9167 well it isn't based on nothing now is it? it's based on ecclestons's report of the work environment and the apparent parallels between this situation and that one.

It's quite obvious she has been sacked. If it wasn't the case, why keep it a secret?, and there has still been no announcement to confirm it was an amicable arrangement. RTD has been pushing his (considerable) weight around of recent and quite honestly, it doesn't surprise me.
Dan Bill Nardole Donna Martha All had 1 series each with a special maybe or maybe. Jack and Mickey for 3 stories before rhey left I'm lucky so far to not see any woke comments about the pairing both being pocs. I know they will be out there though. As long as she's not another Ryan or Whittaker I don't care. If she's a goos actress and likeable interesting character then it's all good.
Absolute clickbait from news. It's very clear this was always the plan. One full season, two Christmas specials, and a few season 2 appearances. Not crazy. I'm tired of the fake drama "DROPPED". It hasn't been confirmed bevause its nothing special. Its a weak leak. Why bother confirm it. As for ncutis story paying respect to her, i saw that too. Maybe she just finished filming. Its not hard.
There's literally nothing to all this kerfuffle, its pure journalistic mist (no substance no weight). The Ruby character's gonna be moving to something of a recurring part in the second season, with Varada Sethu's character taking over as the regular companion. Which, lets not forget, was how RTD wrote Martha and (to a lesser extent) Rose after their respective departures, not to mention Captain Jack popping up every now and then to help out. I feel like Moffatt and Chibnall really spoiled us when it came to the companions and longterm exposure to them, like other than Bill and Dan every companion for the last 14 years has appeared in at least 1 full season and 2 specials, even Nardole. But that's just not how Russell writes his companions, even when that '1 season & 2 specials' trend applies (Donna and Wilf) those characters weren't the main companions every time they appeared. He doesn't do long-term storytelling for human characters - there's a reason nearly everything he's written in this century has been a miniseries (Queer as Folk, Casanova, Cucumber, Years and Years, It's a Sin). You can do almost anything and everything with the Doctor because they're an immortal alien who can change their appearance and speak billions of languages, its not anything grounded in reality. But the companions are regular human beings, and I don't think RTD's the kind of writer that finds it particularly thrilling (or interesting) to spend 2-4 seasons with characters who fundamentally can't stray too far from where they started off (characters can grow obviously, and that's obviously vital too, but at the end of Aladdin he's still an orphan living in Agrabah with his pet monkey).
Wouldn't be surprised is the American Disney Audience test screening didn't gel with her or her Northern accent was an issue 😂 who knows the truth will come out eventually. It will be either something simple and Normal (Dr Who has had 1 season companions before) or something really underhand. Once the dust settles the real reason will emerge lol.
As an American Whovian, I hope the accent thing wasn't the case. Media from other countries shouldn't have to cave to us like that. When I watch British media, I'm a guest in your home. I wouldn't walk into someone's home and request they speak in a different voice when I'm there. If someone can't handle an accent speaking *the same language* when the US alone has so many accents itself I really don't know what to tell that person other than to get the fuck over themselves. Subtitles exist if it's really that hard.
@@thatjedifromgallifrey6663what you say is true but it will be interesting to see if the British words and slang get removed for American words in the new season. But I do know that this sort of thing has happened before. I mean in America have different accents and words for things. I'm from the North of England and I understood her perfectly it's not as if she was talking a foreign language and like you said use subtitles 😂 I've have noticed that some British actors do drop their accents when working in America but to be fair they do it here as well esp if they have a very strong accent. But Millies accent wasn't hard to understand compared to some Northern accents. if she was saying "Ee by eck ya hissing at me, I'll pagga ya you gormless Minger" then yeah I would understand lol.

@@hued2542 I don't give a crap about any of that, I just stated a fact :)
branding an actor a diva is kinda a go-to excuse for getting rid of them and even ruining their chances at other roles, and is a big red flag imo, i hope i'm wrong also i loved those 2 together i'm already sad its over
She wouldn't have been the first diva in filming business the director had to work with. What about notorious Klaus Kinski?
@Nikioko I don't know who that is but being in the public eye like that can have that effect especially if you're young when it happens but also she really is just a kid you'd think the adults in the room could have more class and maybe act like adults
@Nikioko Wouldn't be the first time a Doctor Who main cast member had a falling out with RTD....
It's good to know RTD and the executive team haven't learnt a single thing since series 1 in 2005.
Though not really, considering the shorter season!
Millie is like what 20? Makes me wonder if she wanted to be able to have more of a life while doing Doctor Who and wanted to go for nights out, but the shooting schedule wouldn’t allow it. Perhaps she wasn’t really prepared for the commitment. Think Billie Piper said that she didn’t enjoy not being able to be a normal ‘young person’ when she made Doctor Who
Wasn't Billie married to Chris Evans at the time?
@frankshailes3205 one of the worst mistakes a human being can make
This isn't her first acting role. She's got more experience than Billie Piper did in season 1. I'm pretty sure she understands the work involved with acting...
@@RJA I work in TV (in production) and one of my mates had far experience than me and he quit a show we were working on because the night shoots through the winter made him miserable and he missed how it took over his life
@@TheArticulatingAnoraksPodcast I'm a chef who works 60 hour weeks I get it trust me. I think actors have it easier than me tbh.
no matter what actually happened, I hope bad press doesn't get her blacklisted...
I think Doctor Who is the only show in the world where cast members haven't even started their run, and everyone's already talking about when they're going to leave
people expected her to be the new rose, but actually she's the new Martha
Oof
I love how all this drama's going on, and we haven't even seen the series.
I mean one companion per season is not super unusual, take Martha for example. It’s not unexpected RTD has a companion leave in the series final
Best take on this I've seen.
If this is really how it's all going to go down, it's disgusting. It was disgusting in 2005, and its still just as bad now
This might seem incredibly optimistic, but is anyone else kinda hoping it's part of the story - like in the audios where the Doctor had adventures with Mary Shelley between adventures with Samson and Gemma.
Good video.
Lets hope Millie and Varada gives us a great TARDIS adventure. I have a feeling they will be great companions. 💙💙
It seems like there is a strong level of classism at the BBC, the divide between north and south rearing its head once again. i could be spouting arrant nonsense however where there's parallels there is reasonable suspicion in my opinon.
Martha, bill, Donna, Romana 1, Liz , one season companions have precedence, if everything has been filmed then there is no issue
But shes apparently not leaving after the finale according to this
@@donb7519 Neither did Martha, could be the same situation where she just shows up for a few episodes
honestly this whole production started because tennant, tate, rtd, gardener and tranter are all best buddies and wanted to get the gang back together. now its just the main trio of producers with up and coming actors eager to get ahead in there careers.
Doctor Who should try a group of alien companions like Moya's crew for a couple of seasons instead of more people from modern day UK.
Why the fuss? Martha Jones, Donna Noble, and Bill Potts were all one seasoners ( despite Donna returning for the specials) , not to mention the companions in Classic Who that only did one season. It’s not a big deal unless you make it a big deal.
This is slightly unrelated. Do you know when we may get a the 28 figures for Wild Blue Yonder and The Giggle?
Even Peter Davidson regenerated mid season into Colin baker
I genuinely don't understand why everyone is so freaked out over this. Companions on new who often only last a season. Martha, Donna, Bill. I'm not sure why this is big news.
In all honesty, most companions in modern Doctor Who last one or two series in the show. Sometimes even 3.
This is why I hate mid season actor changes, its impossible to prevent leaks.
The same happened with Rose and Martha so.
Im treating this as a 'no news is no news' thing.
"Nobody Knows Anything..." IYKYK
I thought that Season 2 of 15 was in post now, so they're filming S3, aren't they?
Filming took a break during Xmas, only a handful of episodes were shot including ep4 and this year's holiday special.
Poor Millie the BBC done her dirty and could get her blacklisted disgraceful 🤷🏽♂️
There could be a follow up episode with River Song with an episode on the Library planet.
16:40 Also, Varada is British and since every present-day companion *has* to be British now 🙄 (and we likely won’t get a past-time companion), it makes sense to cast Varada.
The only non british companion simce 1963 has been Tegan lmao💀
@@padraigpearse1551 well pretty sure Susan, Adric, Leela, Nyssa, Turlough, Romana I, Romana II and Nardole would tell you they were Alien, Peri and Grace were American. I know you meant the nationalities of the Actors, but still.

Which actor or actress does like night shoots? Millie moans about them. So what! She’s 18. Poor Millie! Xx
She hasn’t been “dropped” they’re just far ahead with the filming
If they’re filming season 2 right now and the Christmas episode was filmed nearly 2 years ago then in real time she’s been in the role for a normal amount of time
Maybe tho I don’t know everything that’s just my take
I kept waiting for Sam to pipe in on the chat, saying, “I kicked your butt, hat man!”
Keep in mind though,in fairness she was most likely aware of this and how the Season/series was gonna play out!!script read thru, all that. She knew how long she was staying on...AND Mr.Tardis pointed out that noone RTD,BBC,actor's etc have not said 1 thing, so wait till Millies back, let her have Vacation lol!🤣✌️🤘🍻
Regardless of "series" or "season", it's actually the 41st - because it's always been the same show.
I can‘t see Ncuti‘s support post if Millie on Instagram. And neither Millie on holiday in Costa Rica. Is something wrong with my Instagram? 🤔
It was a story. It's been more than 24 hours
It was instagram stories
To see Millie Gibson quit after one season is actually logical, as RTD always worked with one-season plots.
I'm hoping the new companion comes from the Khan or Chandra family it would be nice to have a companion that comes from a family that has had links with the Doctor that would be interesting.
This comment is like when people theorised Poe would be a Windu
Millie Gibson doesn't even turn 20 until June. I don't believe that someone that young, who is mostly unknown, would throw their weight around. Perhaps RTD isn't just a fan of Joss Whedon's writing, maybe he likes to treat his actors the same way as JW too.
Doing a companion every season again. Disappointed honestly. I prefer when you can get attached to a companion
It’s series 41. I’m putting my foot down on that one.
@@markpostgate2551 Series. It's British.

WTF the new series hasn't even started? Varada Sethu leaves Doctor Who.... when? sometime in the future.
I was fired from my first job for asking to go on holiday so I sympathise with millie

Quit listening to the Mirror !
Come on, this is tabloid-level speculation. Thought you were better than that.
And isn't Ncuti leaving at the end of the second series?
No? nothing’s been confirmed about that either, just filming ahead.
No.
13:01 were they talking about the actor or the character?
They got to film a lot in advance to get Proper CGI
Stop pandering to gossip and react to facts. They’re both in the second series together!
Russel really seems to be a bully
You've based that... on nothing. Ignoring the tons we know of him saying otherwise
@@jakeoliver9167 well it isn't based on nothing now is it? it's based on ecclestons's report of the work environment and the apparent parallels between this situation and that one.
RTD typically has one season companions and the official line is she has not been dropped and will apparently be back. Great channel, but I’m afraid this is a non-story.
So RTD is doing a similar thing to when eccleston left? Leaking her being a diva as a excuse is cunty if true.

I shame Eccleston agreed to do the HP TV show, of which we now know JKR is exec. producer. I fear he'll end up being the next on the anti-trans train...
It's quite obvious she has been sacked. If it wasn't the case, why keep it a secret?, and there has still been no announcement to confirm it was an amicable arrangement.
RTD has been pushing his (considerable) weight around of recent and quite honestly, it doesn't surprise me.

Bill
Nardole
Donna
Martha

Jack and Mickey for 3 stories before rhey left
I'm lucky so far to not see any woke comments about the pairing both being pocs.
Denial, and cope
This will give all the conspiracy theres and anti doctor who people ammunition to use against the show
They’ll always have something to be mad about I wouldn’t worry about it
nice

"The 2025 season".
I'm from the North of England and I understood her perfectly it's not as if she was talking a foreign language and like you said use subtitles 😂
I've have noticed that some British actors do drop their accents when working in America but to be fair they do it here as well esp if they have a very strong accent. But Millies accent wasn't hard to understand compared to some Northern accents. if she was saying "Ee by eck ya hissing at me, I'll pagga ya you gormless Minger" then yeah I would understand lol.
Imagine if this was one big hoax planed by RTD to throw the tabloids and fandom off, that way any more leeks would have doubt. If so that would be genius.
