Hi Courtney, are you wanting your wallet sized card/brochure to have multiple folds? Also, do you want it to be full-bleed? In other words, print/color runs to the edge of the page.
I created a "duplicate page" but when I print it out, it prints on two seperate pieces of paper. How do I get it to print on both sides of one piece of paper?
If your printer is able to do 2 sided printing then you will need to go into print properties and tell it to flip on the short edge. If your printer only prints one sided then you have to just print page one, flip the page back into the printer and then print side 2 only.
Do you have a video about bleeding edges? Also, the fold and margin locations (for the interior sections) throws me off. It feels like such a risk to put "a little more space" here and there.
Hi there, I don't have a video on setting up bleed for a brochure in MS Publisher, but I do show how to do that in Adobe Indesign. The reason you have to move the margins for the gutters (interior sections) has to do with the folding process. If you make it exactly 1/3 of the page then the brochure will not fold correctly. It is difficult to explain in writing as it is one of those things you need to see. It is not critical though... You just might end up with a column that looks like it is not centered on the page after it is folded. Hope that helps!
I use a 24# Hammermill ultra bright... but you can also use the 32# which is even a bit thicker paper. If you want it to really shine you can get the 24 or 32 in C2S which is glossy on both sides. Just be sure your printer can take the coated paper before sending it though or you could damage your printer.

If it can then once you hit print, in the print setup screen you will have an option to print front and back. If your printer only prints 1 sided then you have to print page one only, then flip the page back into the printer and print page 2 only. I typically use a 24# Hammermill, ultra bright (100 brightness), though I sometime use a 28 or 32# My shop has a really good Canon Laser printer with a Fiery driver so I can print true Pantone colors and the Hammermill paper almost looks glossy when it is printed. Also, Hammermill is kind of the “gold standard” when it comes to printers. Almost all printers are tested on the 24#, 100 bright.

Yes. Page 1 is the outside (front and back of the brochure) page 2 is the inside panels. You need to print 2 sided and flip on the short edge. If your printer does not do 2 sided printing then you have to print just page 1, flip the page you just printed and put it back in your printer, then print just page 2. Each printer is a little different so you have to play around with it a bit to see how page impute affects page output. I work in a print shop so the machine I work with can print front and back without me having to manually flip it.
Do you mean legal paper? 8.5x14? Or do you have a custom cut sheet at 8.5x13? Also, you will have to decide if you want to still trifold or if it will be a quad (4 panel) fold. Custom size paper means a custom setup, so it is hard to explain in a reply. But you would need to take a sheet of your paper, pre-fold it, and then measure where the folds will go. Then go into Publisher, Page settings, and custom setup your document based on the custom numbers you come up with.

Hmm. Not sure I understand about the 2 fold brochure… a trifold has 2 folds. To add a background picture, just add an image to the page and move it behind the text or other graphics you have in the document.
Custom sizes are pretty tricky. If you are making thousands of them you will want to work with a local print shop to see what types of custom sizes and folds they can offer. Usually there is a page size maximum and a number and type of fold depending on what equipment they have. If you are just making one or two for a class project then you can usually print up to a 11x17 page, so you can make any custom size that is smaller than that and cut it down and hand fold it. For this I would just use a 17 wide by 11 tall in publisher then drag out guides to make your custom size. Keep in mind that you want the front cover to be a little bit longer than all the other panels so that the flaps that fold in behind it do not get crunched in the front cover fold. I would take a blank sheet, cut it to your custom size, fold it, then mark the front - back - inside panels - etc. then lay the page flat so you can see how you need to lay out your panels on each side of the sheet in Publisher. Hope that helps!
Short answer... it depends. It depends on the font (style, size, etc.), it depends on the amount of info you are including in your brochure... and so on. As a basic starting point I usually use 10 or 11 pt font, line spacing set to 1 and paragraphed set to equal or a little less than the font size. In other words, if I am using 11pt font then I will set the after paragraph spacing to 11pt or maybe 9pt. There is not really a right or wrong way to do it as a lot of it comes down to your personal design style, the style or use of the brochure, or what the client wants if you are building it for someone else. What If I set the paragraph spacing to 0pt and I set the line spacing to 1.5sp? If I do not set paragraph spacing do you think that It gets too much close between paragraphs?
That can work well for you but you need a new way to create a visual break in your paragraphs. You can indent the first line, or leave a blank line between paragraphs so there is basically equivalent of 3sp between your paragraphs. On a brochure you are working with very limited space so I usually opt for less space between lines and break up my paragraphs with a space between them.
I usually use Hammermill paper like this right here www.amazon.com/Hammermill-Premium-Letter-Bright-102630R/dp/B0010T5NF2/ref=sr_1_3_sspa?crid=PSPNLZRB18UL&keywords=hammermill+paper+8.5+x+11&qid=1552230476&s=gateway&sprefix=hammermill+%2Caps%2C186&sr=8-3-spons&psc=1 It is nice and thick but still easily foldable and when printed on has a shininess to it that almost looks like a gloss paper.
excuse me, my teacher told us to do like for each page the content, total of 8 pages. The first and last pages are the front cover and the back cover. When I try to print like as a brochure like there is a setting like that, it tends to print like a landscape kind of brochure like it opens landscape. How to fix it?
Can you send me your file? My email is in the video description. It sounds like you are setting up a quad brochure on A4 paper or perhaps a half fold with 2 sheets. But I will need to see the file to know for sure.
First, you have to have a printer that is capable of printing two sided... or know what direction to flip the page when printing side two. Second, in the print driver you have to choose 2 sided printing and flip on the short edge. You can do this under “print properties” or in the print menu that pops up on the left hand side of the window when printing in Publisher. Optionally, if your printer does not support 2 sided printing you can print page one, flip the paper back into the printer and print page 2 on the back. It may take a trial or two to figure out the proper way to position the page when printing side 2. Hope that helps!

Not sure I know exactly what you are asking so I will give 2 answers and hope one of them is the right one. 1: If you mean “why are the front and back page together on page one of the design?” It is because once the brochure is folded the front and back of the finished brochure are one fold away from each other. 2: If you mean how did I copy the first page to make a second just like it... I just right click on the page one thumbnail and then click on “duplicate page.” Hope one of those answers your question!
Print front to back and flip on the short edge. If you are on a printer that does front to back printing you can do this in the print driver. If your printer only prints one side at a time then you will have to play with it a bit to find out the correct way to send the page back through for side two.

Very clear video. But my issue I have with Publisher 2013 is with paper size. How do you make it work with a normal A4 sheet of paper? 🤔😬 When I print onto A4 the brochure is always to one side, with back and front on different sides making folding impossible. I am losing my mind trying to sort this! 🤬🤯

Hello @SnoWhat, Unfortunately my instructions only work for US Letter size brochure. The layout should be the same, as far as the three panels per page and where each panel goes but the measurements will all be different. Keep in mind that the front of the brochure and the back of the brochure, when it is folded, will actually be on page one. The front will be the far right panel and the back is the middle panel. You are welcome to send me screen shots of your project so I can see what you are working on, or if you like, schedule a time with me so I can send you a screen sharing link and look at it live.
Andrew Breault WOW what service, thanks. But actually I think my problem was using Publisher’s ready made brochures which already had the photos and stuff you just replace. That seemed to be the easiest way, but I just kept getting into trouble with the print at the end. I now know that those ready made templates were using US measurements, which wouldn’t easily adjust to metric. So following your vid, substituting inches for cms looks like it will work great. Anyway thanks again. How did we ever do stuff before UA-cam!???
Glad to hear it worked out! Yeah, I stay clear of the canned layouts that come with Publisher as they are almost never right anyway. And, I know what you mean about UA-cam. I work in IT and half my job I figure out with Google and UA-cam. 😳😂😂

What paper type did you used for your brochure?
24# ultra bright Hammermill works great. If you want a more sturdy and classy feel you could go with the 32# Hammermill.

How did your duplicate page print on the back of your first page??
First, you have to have a printer that is capable of printing two sided... or know what direction to flip the page when printing side two.
Second, in the print driver you have to choose 2 sided printing and flip on the short edge. You can do this under “print properties” or in the print menu that pops up on the left hand side of the window when printing in Publisher.
Optionally, if your printer does not support 2 sided printing you can print page one, flip the paper back into the printer and print page 2 on the back. It may take a trial or two to figure out the proper way to position the page when printing side 2.

What paper did you use for the brochure?
I typically use a 24#, ultra bright Hammermill paper.

Talk ative no worries. Not sure I know exactly what you are asking so I will give 2 answers and hope one of them is the right one.
1: If you mean “why are the front and back page together on page one of the design?” It is because once the brochure is folded the front and back of the finished brochure are one fold away from each other.
2: If you mean how did I copy the first page to make a second just like it... I just right click on the page one thumbnail and then click on “duplicate page.”

Print front to back and flip on the short edge. If you are on a printer that does front to back printing you can do this in the print driver. If your printer only prints one side at a time then you will have to play with it a bit to find out the correct way to send the page back through for side two.

Very clear video. But my issue I have with Publisher 2013 is with paper size. How do you make it work with a normal A4 sheet of paper? 🤔😬 When I print onto A4 the brochure is always to one side, with back and front on different sides making folding impossible. I am losing my mind trying to sort this! 🤬🤯
Forget my last comment! 🙄Having spent days trying to size the standard tri fold template to A4, naturally I thought your explanation using a different size paper wasn’t going to work for me. Well guess what, I followed your guide and it worked! 😅. Fantastic, thank you. Wish I had seen this at the beginning!
Hello @SnoWhat, Unfortunately my instructions only work for US Letter size brochure. The layout should be the same, as far as the three panels per page and where each panel goes but the measurements will all be different. Keep in mind that the front of the brochure and the back of the brochure, when it is folded, will actually be on page one. The front will be the far right panel and the back is the middle panel.

Andrew Breault WOW what service, thanks. But actually I think my problem was using Publisher’s ready made brochures which already had the photos and stuff you just replace. That seemed to be the easiest way, but I just kept getting into trouble with the print at the end. I now know that those ready made templates were using US measurements, which wouldn’t easily adjust to metric. So following your vid, substituting inches for cms looks like it will work great. Anyway thanks again. How did we ever do stuff before UA-cam!???
Glad to hear it worked out! Yeah, I stay clear of the canned layouts that come with Publisher as they are almost never right anyway.
And, I know what you mean about UA-cam. I work in IT and half my job I figure out with Google and UA-cam. 😳😂😂
